When people think of Oklahoma they often picture the lushness of the Cookson Hills or the flat tall grass parries. Black Mesa is one of the amazing transition zones that mark the point where the Rockies meet the short grass prairie. The mesa itself is...More

This is by far my favorite state park in Oklahoma. It's remote and quiet. The facilities, while not top notch, are taken care of and maintained. The bathrooms were the cleanest, by far, that I've seen in any state park I've ever been to. It...More

A beautiful place to camp, hike, and see the stars. I didn't fish there, but you can. The locusts were very loud and made the hustle of the city vanish. There are lots of places to have a picnic and a nice play area. The...More

This park is probably the most secluded park I have ever been to, and it was amazing. The state park is not where Black Mesa is...the plateau is a little further of a drive. However, if you are wanting to experience the open night sky,...More

You will want to make this a stop. We lived in OK for 35 years and never got out to this spot. It took some time to get there from Tulsa, but it was well worth the trip. We were coming from Colorado and took...More

Strangely enough, Black Mesa itself is not within Black Mesa State Park. The state park is nice enough and has some fairly short but pretty hiking trails, a small lake and some campgrounds. I often see deer and pronghorn antelopes in the park. But if...More

Very interesting geography! This is a great 8.4 mile hike for the casual hiker. Only about 2 miles are fairly steep. Perspective on scenery changes on way up and down. Spend some time on top going to the edge to capture the view to the...More

We first visited Black Mesa State Park. The Mesa Peak is not located in the park. The park is very clean and well kept, camping sites looked very nice. However, we were headed for the peak which is further down the road. Excellent experience, not...More

What a lovely surprise this Park was, beautifully green, shady trees and grass, in a well-run, well maintained, clean, neat park with wonderful hiking trails. We loved it!

There aren't any gates for the Black Mesa State Park. Is you are camping and come in after hours their won't be a ranger in the office (not always is there one during hours since they do maintain the park). We stayed just... More

Really hard to predict the weather in Oklahoma, especially that time of year. Could be in the 70s or snowing. Most likely 40s or 50s. Should be great! But it could be really windy, so be prepared! As long as it's not... More
