I'm just amazed how our ancestors survived in the early years. Seeing this fort at Fort Gibson, tells us a lot. It will take you back, many years! It just makes you think. We are who we are because of the men who stood their ground. Many buildings are sprouting up around the fort. I didn't have the chance to... More

Made a special trip to see the fort. There is a lot of construction due to a storm. After repaired it should be great. Wait until they get done!

I think we must have visited after a big storm. Many of the barracks were undergoing roof repairs. We enjoyed some good photo ops, but there isn't much to do other than walk around right now. Still a good, free atttaction.

I enjoyed my visit. The displays were well labeled and the guide was knowledgeable and answered questions.

Enjoyed the fort and seeing the restoration. Kids liked the displays, jail (munitions), and stocks. Great place to burn some energy when traveling with kids!

So, I cannot rate this fully because I apparently made it outside of visiting hours... However, this fort was really neat to see. It is not in the best of shape, and you could tell they were working on updating some of it. But the history is there and it is pretty awe inspiring to see. Free to visit, including... More

What you won't find in most of your history books is what this place really was. That is a Prison for all the Indian Tribes forced from their home land and brought to Oklahoma. I'm glad the Oklahoma State Historical Society brings out a more true story. MVTO

When we saw that it was being restored, we assumed this would be a quick 10-15 minute stop. It would have been, but the gentleman in charge was exceptional. The building has a small collection of artifacts, and there are three other buildings to look into. However, the guide greeted us enthusiastically, got the kids engaged, a promised a movie.... More

They are in process of needed repairs. It was in very sad shape!! Why did the town permit it to deteriorate as it did. The other historical buildings such as the Military Hospital is going to rack and ruin!

The old fort is a great place to introduce children to Oklahoma's rich history! I visited the fort in my childhood and have taken my children throughout the years. The fort has been undergoing an extensive refurbishment. We can't wait for the new opening and to see the improvements!
