This is a small nature preserve only 68 acres. However I am sucker for ferns and there is over 30 different fern species here. My favorite color is green and it is everywhere here.

You will gain the most from a visit if you can join a walk through the park with one of the preserve's naturalists, who will point out the very small native orchids, the woolly aphids busy on the birch trees (non-alcoholic birch beer is available...More

I expected, hoped for a more enriching area that would create an atmosphere with more natural wildflowers for more birds, butterflies, and photo opportunities. I was disappointed that the area seemed durable for fulfilling the natural habitat it set out to be, but it lacked...More

The Wahkeena nature preserve is located near the larger and more spectacular parks of Hocking Hills, but it is worth a stop. There is very small museum with many interesting exhibits. There are some nice trails located throughout the park. There is also a small...More

This preserve is well maintained and staffed. It is a quick hike since it ranks on the smaller side. We experienced more wildlife here than at Hocking, easily, because it is less frequented.
