On a previous visit Victoria State Rose Garden deserved its description of a world-class garden. This year has been a tough season for the roses; rain and wind, the blooms were a colourful sight. However current maintenance of the gardens abysmal.
Most of the bedding mulch cover is sparse or non-existent, as a consequence, weeds in seed, high and widespread, both in beds and pathways. Brick edging disappearing under turf infiltration, mowing in some lawn areas slap dash; garden benches require paint and repairs.
The work by the rose garden volunteers will have been restricted by Covid, however it is difficult to comprehend why Parks Management has decided to neglect these Gardens.
In contrast, most Victorian Councils/Local Authorities, have been able to maintain their town and city parks/flower and rose gardens to a good standard..
Why have Parks Management equipped with mechanical edger tools, tractors, heavy-duty lifting and haulage garden equipment, not continued the upkeep to a reasonable standard?.

Great place for a family picnic, rose garden old trees and a museum, hotel and winery close by, what more can you ask for. It really is a majestic place , for both young and old alike. A must visit if in Werribee South.

A wonderful garden, designed and laid out wonderfully. We visited on mother's day and witnessed another unique feature of the design, so many "private" nooks where people were able to throw out a blanket and enjoy a picnic, yet no impact on any of the other visitors. It was far from the peak time to visit and yet there were plentiful blooms to witness and smell.

as if a giant, but dainty, flirtatious lady dropped her embroidered handkerchief on the green meadow ... roses ... roses everywhere ... unimaginable colours ... enticing aromas ...
sweet dreams ...

Went to the State Rose Garden in late November while the roses were still in bloom. The air was filled with the scent of the roses and the garden was beautiful. It is well laid out and a pleasure to walk around. It is kept well maintained by the volunteer staff who work there and they are to be congratulated. I would highly recommend a visit to any garden lover or anyone who just wants a pleasant relaxing hour or so, but I would also like to add that it is about time our government spent some money on sealing the dirt road into the car park and replaced the inefficient above ground sprinklers in the garden with in ground drip feed systems.

We had a lovely morning walking through this beautiful garden. An expansive display of a large variety of roses. Even though a hailstorm the evening before our visit had undermined many of the blooms. The entry is free, all the rose beds are signed with the names of the specimens. The colours are beautiful and the set out very well done. Nothing to dislike about this place. A lovely place for a stroll or picnic.

We were there when the roses had finished blooming, but still a lovely place to stroll around. A must when the roses are in bloom.
