I had an amazing day with John from Discover Tasmania Tours! I booked the Bridestowe Lavender Estate scenic tour that also goes to Lilydale Falls, Grindelwald, and Cataract Gorge.
I ended up going on a solo tour with him since there were no other joiners (had to pay a bit extra for my tour to push through.)
John was engaging and very knowledgeable, and was able to make adjustments when necessary. He made the long car drive between places interesting by showing me interesting things around us - from the mountains, the animals, and certain towns that we passed through.
Overall I was very very happy to be getting so much within one day tour, and I highly recommend DTT to everyone!

As we had not been to Launceston before we chose to do the Launceston City & Tamar Valley day tour, and were delighted we did! It was an amazing day. John was an excellent tour guide having worked out the itinerary to maximise all the highlights of this beautiful and historical region.together with his own knowledge and passion, and his generosity with time - we thoroughly enjoyed the day and learn so much. Commencing with a drive around Launceston city, where John pointed out historical cites and quirky things associated with them, then we drove to Cataract Gorge and walked around, saw the hydro plant and learnt of its history and an appreciation of its engineering feat, stopped at some amazing spots for breathtaking views around the Tamar estuary, had a fantastic pub lunch, and stopped at a sensational cellar door. A big day; no way we could have done all that on our own. We would thoroughly recommend this tour.

John is an amazing knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humour. We visited the wildlife sanctuary, King Solomon cave and Cataract Gorge, also did a bush walk and a riverside walk. John was very attentive to my slightly injured knee while making sure I could see the sights by choosing the right paths and the perfect pace. He even prepared fresh strawberries, grapes and bananas for us. We wanted to book another tour with him again but we had a very short stay in Launceston. Highly recommended!

Spent 4 days with John touring Bay of Fires (out of this world experience), Cradle Mtn.and Tamar Valley. John was very accommodating, warm and welcoming, i.e. a wonderful host. Experienced and very professional, always on time, willing to go out of his way or you - John is an ideal tour guide, very proud of Tasmania and places there well worth seeing.
I'd recommend him wholeheartedly.

A once in a lifetime experience delievered in a professional manner! Bays of fire is a must do when visiting the region and trust me you will not regret it. You will be guided through the turquoise and blue waters of the bay by an amazing guide whom we are so grateful to have met . John is a guide like no other! John had a wealth of information about the Bays and terrestrial wildlife and "hot tips" on what to do around the area . He also did a custom tour and added lavender farm which we wanted to visit .I found John has fantastic knowledge of the History of Tasmania, and places along this part of the coast, and the industries that support the area.etc
John was very pleasant and made the day very enjoyable, and comfortable trip I thoroughly recommend Discover Tasmania Tours.

My partner and I are more the solo traveller types but needed to book a tour this time around as the cost to hire a car was insane! John did not disappoint. He is an awesome guy who has travelled the world and has a yarn or two about his experiences. John was super approachable and made the journey around Tazzie a comfortable experience. We would definitely book a tour with him again, if not just to hear more of his tales.
Read on if you'd like to find out more about the Trowunna Wildlife sanctuary day tour.
My partner and I had come to Launceston on a last minute trip and so were a bit unorganised. The cost to rent a car was astronomical and so we decided to book a tour on a Saturday evening, to take the next day.
John was more than accommodating. He organised everything for us at the last minute and even managed to squeeze us in on a cave tour.
We set out from our hotel and John have us all the history of Launceston which was very interesting. He toured us around the country up to Mole Creek to visit Trowunna Wildlife sanctuary where he guided us around the park until the official park tour began. This tour was led by Ned, who was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the local fauna. We even got to see a Tasmanian devils babies hiding away in their mothers pouch.
We moved on from the sanctuary to Mole Creek caves where we got to go on a great tour of one of the cave systems. We were led by Dave (the discoverer of a new spider in that cave system!) who has guided guests through that system for years. He was great to chat to and an all around nice guy.
Next we moved into lunch at an adorable little cafe called Earthwater for a delicious lunch. It's also worth mentioning John has supplied water and fruit to sustain us during our journey. Earthwater had a great selection of food. We had the loaded baked potato and eggs benedict between us. I've never had baby spinach taste so good!
To work off our lunch we headed out for a short walk up to view the Alum Cliffs. The walk isn't too challenging and the pay off is amazing.
To round out the day we went and tasted honey at the Honey Farm. I recommend the wildflower! And then hit up the salmon farm 41° south for a wander and chat to local pioneer Ziggy.
It was then time to call it a day, but not before John shared with us the history of Tasmania and a tour around to view Launcestons historic buildings.
It was then time to head back to our hotel where John left us with some souvenir maps and the rest of the strawberries to eat!
John was fantastic four the entire day always checking in and sharing a dad joke or two!
Tasmania is one of our favourite places to visit and we will be sure to hit up John the next time we're in town.

We spent a wonderful day with John who is an excellent host and knowledgeable guide. It was really like going out for the day with a friend.
The day started with us heading towards our destination of Cradle Mountain and after a lovely lunch we went onto Sheffield to see all the murals throughout the town and then Railton.
We cannot recommend John highly enough. He fully delivered his two rules for the day - a great time and getting home safely. Thanks John look forward to another day out when we come back down for a visit.

We spent a wonderful day with John. John was very informative with good historical knowledge of the area. Enjoyed conversations about work/travel/life. We visited excellent wineries and included a final stop at Rosevears Tavern for a cleansing ale. We would recommend John for his tours and look forward to another tour with him when we return to Tasmania for another visit.

To start, we want to say a huge thank you to John for this tour. We had a spectacular day touring from Launceston to Bay of Fires, stopping in at St Columba Falls, St Helens, Scottsdale and at the Pyengana Cheese Factory. Whilst we drove along we enjoyed John’s knowledge and the history he had of the places we drove to and through. Providing fresh fruit, mentos, dad jokes and proving to be the photographer every girls trip needs- John really made this trip unforgettable. Thank you!!

Thanks Aurora for your lovely review and it was wonderful to meet you all and share some of the East Coast icons and scenic items of interest on the way. We were blessed with the weather for the entire day and it is often like this during Winter here in Northern Tasmania. I trust you have an enjoyable stay for the remainder of your time here and I wish you all good health and safe travels forever.
P.S. Shaun misses you all.

This was my first visit to Tasmania, and my husband and I really wanted to see the snow. The customer service lady at the Launceston Visitor Centre suggested this tour to us, and we're very glad she did.
John was an excellent guide/driver and within minutes it was like going on a day out with a friend. He was/is very chatty and knowledgeable of the area.
We were lucky enough to visit Ben Lomond on a clear, sunny day so we had some amazing views during the day. We arrived early enough to avoid any crowds (they just started to arrive as we left). We spent a couple of hours at the snow, which was the perfect amount of time to fit in some tobogganing ($15 to hire) as well as some walking around the area. There are toilet facilities and a cafe on site.
After leaving Ben Lomond, John took us on a tour through the CBD and outer areas, providing interesting and informative conversation along the way.
We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel, which was very convenient. After seeing the windy, unsealed road we'd travelled up on, I was very glad we'd left the driving to someone else and not hired a car!
I'd definitely recommend John and Discover Tasmania Tours if you are visiting Tasmania.

Do you know a customized tour operator for KARST National park ,to Mole creek? We want to do a tour of Marakoopa caves( Cathedral & underground river ,glow worm caves) + Solomon cave. This should be at the end of the above tour. Is it possible to do it from Launceston? I am planning a APTouring tour from 11 Oct to 20 Oct. It ends in Launceston. So I was wonder in if I can do a day tour from Launceston to the caves after the APT tour ends.
Can you give me the names of any recommended tour agency who can organize this?
Written 15 June 2016
Hello and apologies for the delay in responding as I have just came across this message. I am available on your proposed date and can take you on a tour of the mole creek caves. Due to recent flood damage only King Solomons cave is open just now however the Marakoopa cave access roads should all be open by the time you plan to tour Tasmania. An itinerary is shown on my website that also includes a visit to Trowunna wildlife park. If you have any questions please contact me via my website email address. Regards, John
