So, it's a rainforest! Get over the rain. It was gorgious. Misty, etheral, magic ride through time...not really. Was good trip, knowledgeable staff, warm, safe, and good food and breaks with short walks. Great photo ops. Enjoyed our table mates company. Train was in good condition. I recomend the up level car. Good photos from balcony on way up from... More

Thank you for your review of the half day River and Rainforest tour departing from Strahan. The wilderness carriage is a wonderful way to experience the wonderful scenery as you skirt Macquarie harbour and then follow the King River deep into the rainforest! Rain, hail, snow or in sunshine it is an all weather experience and with approximately three metres... More

What a wonderful way to spend any day, let alone one a very wet and windy one. We were warm and dry and able to be part of this unique experience. The staff were amazing - from the platform cafe staff before we boarded and when we returned, to the train hosts, the train driver and fireman. We even had... More

We opted to travel in the Heritage carriage at a surcharge but it was well worth it. A glass of local bubbly on arrival, and regular little tasteful snacks throughout the day as well as a good 3 course buffet lunch in Queenstown. The crew were slick, friendly and professional. There was an entertaining, informative commentary and regular stops to... More

We do not do many mainstream tourist activities when travelling, preferring to self explore and bush walk. However we did decide to do the West Coast Wilderness Railway. The day we chose the full return trip from Strahan was not available so we chose to do the Queenstown Explorer which meant an early start from Zeehan to get to Queenstown... More

Thank you for your review of the Rack and Gorge experience in the Heritage carriage departing from Queenstown - it is a wonderful half day experience that covers some magnificent terrain. That said the departure from Strahan also is very scenic following the harbour and King River to Dubbil Barril. The café is a good option for an early breakfast,... More

There are just so many good things to say about this railway. It is a tribute to the hard work of all those who resurrected what could have easily become another dead train line. But it is more - it is a tribute to the early pioneers and miners who forged such an amazing line through impenetrable bushland and over... More

Having been privileged to visit some of the finest tourist destinations from Scandinavia to Africa the Middle East and Asia, I didn't expect this train trip to be so outstanding! Historical, interesting, comfortable and faultless. Travelled in the Wilderness carriage and it was fabulous. Worth paying that extra for. The scenery was spectacular and along the way we were served food from start to finish. Best train trip ever, we travelled in style in the Wilderness Carriage, well worth the extra dollars. When we first entered the carriage, we had a glass of champagne, so much food that day, tummy was very full by the end of the day. Salmon canapés, scones with Jam and Fresh Cream, coffees, hot chocolates, delicious buffet lunch at Queenstown... More
