Gordon River Cruises is an award winning wilderness experience in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Departing from Strahan on Tasmania's west coast, Gordon River Cruises offers half day cruises on the Gordon River aboard its sleek, purpose built tour vessel, Spirit of the Wild. Spirit of the Wild was purpose-built in Hobart, especially for the Gordon River. She is an impressive 33m catamaran, fitted with a unique hybrid propulsion system that allows you to cruise the wilds of the Gordon River under electric motors that push Spirit of the Wild along very, very quietly. Amazing trip from start to finish. We were concerned as my wife isn’t walking well at the moment but the staff went to extremes to help us on the walks. The whole trip was better than we both could have dreamt of.

Excellent trip well run and managed . Staff excellent esp -sorry forgot your name - young woman leading the commentary. Food well organised buffet by seat groupings so no snarl ups coffee teas etc . Beautiful journey up the river electric engines so noiseless - could hear the birds . Stop offs very informative go for the play on harbour side afterwards - very good for all ages , audience participation fun panto style great way to top the day well done to the actors.

Fantastic day, crew very freindly and helpful
Enjoyed Sarah island tour guide was amazing funny and engaging.
Beautiful scenery
My only criticism would be for price paid would expect tea and coffee to be included , also felt lunch service was like being called up at primary school I was one of last to be selected when had paid for premium window seats, whilst I was called up others were being offered seconds.
No drink served with lunch either which was disappointing for price.

Booked the Premier Deck and what an amazing experience. Cruising in luxury, great viewing and extremely attentive staff. Served a delicious breakfast as we departed from Strahan and were continually looked after throughout the day. Scenery on the cruise was amazing and the two off ship excursions were enjoyable and informative. An added extra was the wonderful care the staff gave to me. I informed the office on booking that I had Coeliac Disease and they assured me that would not be a problem. On arrival I let the staff know and from then on I was told what was GF and told to serve myself before they announced service to everyone else. So greatful for the care and thoughtfulness of Kiana and Sarah. Would recommend this experience to everyone and would certainly do it again when we are back in Strahan

The overall experience was fantastic. The historic tour of Sarah Island was a bonus. The views spectacular and the service from the crew was great. Whilst this is not a cheap tour it is well worth the cost

Well worth the money. Premium Upper Deck. Service was fantastic. We felt like we were in first class. Didn’t know it included breakfast but morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea was delicious. The knowledge of the commentators in and on land was very informative. ❤️❤️❤️. My only criticism is: I would’ve loved to buy a T-Shirt with their name on it @ but there was nothing in the shop so I just settle for a coffee mug instead.

The cruise itself was an eye opener, truely breathtaking. We chose the upper deck experience at $700 per couple. We did expect a more professional way of food delivery. Lining up with 50 other people for the buffet lunch is not ideal. Allocating say 6 people at a time to get their lunch would be far better. Afternoon tea, cheese platter, should be pre packed and handed out to each guest. People lining up again slicing off a piece of this cheese, a piece of some other cheese, what sort of cracker should they select is something that raises the blood pressure! The choice of alcohol was excessive (16) of them. Less alcohol would have reduced the price.

Hi Wendy, same as Corey H. we were allowed to walk around the boat. The crew will advise when/if not permitted to do so. It definitely adds to the experience!!

Wondering if this is appropriated or 3 year old? 6 bourse seems like a long time for him to be contained, I have a very active little boy. Would love to here from other families which have done this. Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is so much to see. On our tour there were quite a few little ones. You can go outside on the decks and there are land excursions as well where he/she can explore.

Hi,
A question for people who have done the "Gordon River Cruises" cruise recently. I dont want to book and pay ahead of time as there appears to be a very high chance of an impending COVID-19 third wave lockdown in Victoria. So for those that have done it - did you need to book or were there plenty of seats on the day?
Please note I am not after opinions on weather there will be a lockdown or not - I can make that decision, what I am asking is of the people who have done the cruise - was it necessary to book ahead or not. We would be booking for the lower deck.

Depends on time of the year I guess as to demand- I think most people book but you could leave it to a day or two before you go & risk that you may need to change your day. With Covid numbers have been reduced also. We did the upper deck & it was fantastic!

Hi kamala,
Our cruise leaves at 8.30am daily and returns at 2.30pm. In the peak summer season we have an Evening Dinner Cruise leaving at 3.45pm and returning at 9.30pm. Both tours include a buffet lunch or dinner with all tickets. Our website has more information which may be helpful.

Where do we park while on the boat for 6 hours ?

Hi Janice,
There is parking within 300m of the cruise terminal. Between $5-6 for the whole day. If you are unsure once you get to Strahan, just call in to the cruise terminal and someone will point you in the right direction.

Hi we went on the new grey boat from Gordon River Cruises which is not a local c9moany but owned by RACT who are also RACV etc.
I would probably have preferred to have gone with Heritage Cruises which is a local company.
Lunch if you have dietary requirements is pretty poor and for $165 each and not even tea & coffee provided I was very disappointed.
The highlight of the whole trip was stopping at Sarah Island and meeting with a local who’s father had done extensive research about the Island, and his daughter Kiah Davey does a fabulous tour of the island, sensational well worth the tour just for this.
Sadly missed the play that evening.

I was up on the Captain's Deck and there was a lovely buffet available with a great selection of wine. The team also brought around some pre-cruise drinks and snacks which was really nice. I am pretty sure there is also a buffet on the other deck and I think some people did bring some of their own snacks with them.

we went white boat. good lunch paid extra for window seat but didnt use it. buy cheap seats as when boat starts going everyone changes seats and gets up to go out up the front.
