Really worth a visit if you want first hand information about the area. The staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us some interesting info about different areas that we visited.

What a find!
Jun. 2021
This is not only an excellent Visitor Information Centre where you can get the usual maps and tourist stuff, but best of all is the local knowledge you can pick up. The gems only the locals know about , and you probably wont find on the internet.

The History Room is amazing. Well worth the few dollars admission.

A small local museum called a History room
May 2021
A great little find. Our accommodation host provided us with this little gem of a place, as well as providing information on this region of Tasmania, the complex also houses a great little local museum or what they call "History room". It's only two rooms, so don't expect to spend a day here, but there was soo much information on the ship wrecks in the area, artifacts from the timber and mining industries and local items from an era long past. A good enjoyable way to spend an hour or two.

Enjoyable and Informative
Jun. 2021
This is a great little local museum cataloguing many aspects of the history of the north-east, including ship-wrecks, the timber industry, tin mining and the first people. We particularly enjoyed the audio-visual on the Trail of the Tin Dragon.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to the History Room. We believe the almost nominal entry fee provides excellent value for money and the exhibits tell many of the stories of St Helens and the Break O'Day area. And, yes, our VIC staff hope to help you enjoy your stay with information and suggestions to enhance your experience.

Glad We Stopped

The women working at the Visitor Centre were very helpful. We also enjoyed the History Room. My expectations for the History Room were on the low side but I was pleasantly surprised. There were a number of interesting items on display and lots of good stories about the history of the area.

Thank you for these kind words, so often visitors are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the exhibits and the fascinating stories in our History Room. Unfortunately, both History Room and Visitor Information Centre are closed to comply with the government response to COVID-19

Worth a visit

This history room takes about 1hr to walk through and take it all in, very interesting to see and learn more about the area. Staff on the info desk were very helpful. Didn’t see anything very unique in the shop just standard tourist items
