Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A marvellous little museum jam packed with interesting items from the local area - well worth a visit. And the lady (sorry I didn't get her name) in the information centre was lovely - very helpful and enthusiastic.

We called into the St Helens Visitor Centre on our recent visit to Binalong Bay. We were there for 4 nights and wanted to get a better map of the area. Helen, the staff member, was so excellent... she gave us a detailed map and description of various drives and walks. Places for lunch... everything we needed.

Following her recommendations we explored Blue Tier. The drive to the old tin mining site was fabulous, up through the rain forest to the top of a plateau. The history of this region is so interesting. There were once up to 1000 Chinese miners working in the tin industry.

We recommend going back to the Visitor Centre and doing the History Room after your walk around Blue Tier - it will give much perspective to the whole thing.

From the top of Blue Tier, if it's a fine day you have amazing views over the whole district. We were lucky with the weather, it was a fine day but I think even if it was misty or raining it would still be very atmospheric.

Also, it looked like a Mecca for mountain biking. There was a trail which ran for 42kms starting at the top of Blue Tier - I thought it looked amazing but think you might need to be quite experienced before taking it on.

Also, thanks to Helen, we saw some lovely waterfalls along the way. It really was an excellent day out - lunch at Pub in the Paddock followed by another waterfall.

Many thanks for everything St Helens Visitor Centre!

First stop in St Helens, welcoming knowledgeable staff, great selection of literature and souvenirs and the bonus of the history room that gave us a snapshot of First Nations heritage, local and maritime history, pioneers of the area and the Tin Mining community. Loved the pedal organ, horse-drawn funeral hearse, the scale model of the Anchor Mine waterwheel and the various display cabinets. Outside is a Chinese dragon sculpture and the steam powered engine.

This is not only an excellent Visitor Information Centre where you can get the usual maps and tourist stuff, but best of all is the local knowledge you can pick up. The gems only the locals know about , and you probably wont find on the internet.

The History Room is amazing. Well worth the few dollars admission.

A great little find. Our accommodation host provided us with this little gem of a place, as well as providing information on this region of Tasmania, the complex also houses a great little local museum or what they call "History room". It's only two rooms, so don't expect to spend a day here, but there was soo much information on the ship wrecks in the area, artifacts from the timber and mining industries and local items from an era long past. A good enjoyable way to spend an hour or two.

This is a great little local museum cataloguing many aspects of the history of the north-east, including ship-wrecks, the timber industry, tin mining and the first people. We particularly enjoyed the audio-visual on the Trail of the Tin Dragon.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to the History Room. We believe the almost nominal entry fee provides excellent value for money and the exhibits tell many of the stories of St Helens and the Break O'Day area. And, yes, our VIC staff hope to help you enjoy your stay with information and suggestions to enhance your experience.
