Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited McHenry for a private distillery tour, flying in with Tasmania Air Tours on their Squirrel Helicopter – dropping through the misty morning clouds into the hill top distillery, landing next to their fresh water spring. Our Host Charlie was waiting to drive us down the hill to the main distillery buildings.
We strolled leisurely around the distillery buildings, learning about not only their Whiskey (my passion) making processes, but also Gin and Vodka. We met virtually the entire (small) team who were all friendly, including the slightly shy owner Bill McHenry, who kindly autographed some of our purchases.
Charlie took paced the tour and knowledge to our specific needs, and was an excellent host, sharing some brilliant behind the scenes stories of the distillery.
We finished our time (about 1.5-2 hours) with a very relaxed tasting, resulting in well over half a dozen bottles and sets purchased, which McHenry kindly freighted home for us (no charge). It arrived all carefully packed, with the individual boxes protected inside.
Can’t recommend the tour and tasting enough, and do recommend you try their Whiskeys, Gin and Vodka, in addition to some excellent whiskey’s I was particularly taken with their Sloe Gin.
Great job guys – we felt like one of the family when we left.
This is what Tasmania is all about!

We had purchased a bottle of Federation Gin at Salamanca Markets, enjoyed a few samples and decided to visit the distillery when in Port Arthur. Although raining, we enjoyed the drive along Radnor Road, a gravel track leading to the distillery which is located in a bush clearing. A couple of other cars parked, occupants still inside. We parked and decided to wait until the rain abated. There was no sign of any activity around the buildings, one of the other vehicles departed and after a further 15 minutes or so we followed. Returned to the Salamanca markets on 16th April, some more tastings and this time a bottle of Sloe Gin. Disappointed that we missed the distillery but the markets a reasonable substitute to enjoy tastings especially if not driving.

Three of us on a whisky mission from Queensland visited McHenry today (Monday). Our host Siobhan (hope hers is the Irish spelling) was very friendly and informative. She introduced us to a very nice range of whiskies, and a gin or two as well, and provided lots of background about the distillery and the drams. Couldn't resist buying some. Highly recommended.

After a long drive down an unmade road we were welcomed by a lovely young lad who explained the product range and offered us a tasting. We are Whisky lovers so had a $10 tasting of their Whisky to start and took stools at the tasting table.
Another 2 couples came into the cellar door so we settled while the young lad welcomed them. Enter then ‘Mark’ announcing himself to one of the other couples as one of the ‘key guys’. I stood to get a glass of water from the end of the bench and walked back to my stool (all my phone wallet and Whisky was still there) I turned to sit as Mark offered the new entrant my stool which was literally in front of me, as I was about to sit!! She sat, he continued. I had to lean over to get my stuff and we left.
We intended to taste and buy however the ignorance and rudeness shown by one of the ‘key guys’ meant we left after 1 Whisky tasting with a bad taste in our mouth🤔 rethink your approach Mark it was shocking !

2 klms off the main road. Great Gin and Whiskey tasting, $10 for 3 tastings of your choice. Was very busy only 1 person working in the shop serving drinks making coffee and cheese platters. We ordered cheese and the table next to us ordered coffee neither of us got our orders. Would really benefit from extra person working there. No prices on the items that were for sale and hardly any of their spirits for sale. This could be an amazing business but really lacking basic customer service. Such a shame.

Made the effort to track down the dirt road to this distillery but did not feel welcome at all. There was only one staff member present and 3-4 groups of people. He spent all his time with one couple to the exclusion of others.
I am sure the gin is delightful but we did not hang around to find out. Found other distilleries on the peninsula where we were welcomed.

Loved this find. I’m not a Gin lover but after trying the samples here I loved it so much I bought the old English sloe gin and the butterfly gin! Yummy. Nice as a shot or with tonic water. Tried a few others but loved these. Very informative young lady who helped me to find exactly what taste suited me. Thank you highly recommended.

We had a wonderful tour of the premises with William who was very generous with his time and explained the science behind the brewing process in great detail. Delightful experience and highly recommend, especially if you are visiting Port Arthur. Love the Whiskey!

Visited from the UK, staying near Port Arthur for the museum. Thought we'd try the distillery. Arrived with another group, who said they were from Brisbane, 'are you all together?'we were asked by the young man, 'no we're from Liverpool, UK' I replied. 'Well you can bugger off then', was the response.
Now, maybe this was meant jokingly, but it didn't come across in a jokey way. He subsequently seemed 'ok' with us when I asked questions. But we nearly walked out.
Their beer was fine, the whiskey was 'rough' to my palate, and was not smooth, but maybe too young.

We arrived and parked in the car parking area, after a quick look around we wondered inside the shop front...
Lets just say that’s when we noticed no one was around to assist us, anyway after about 5 minutes we decided to leave.
On the down side we were prepared to spend up big, as I wanted to buy bottles of Gin for family and friends.
