- SueAdelaide, Australia91 contributionsRemarkable CaveDid this just after Port Arthur Historic Site. Just down the road, doesn’t take long to drive there or walk down to the viewing platform - does require some fitness to climb the stairs on the way back, but as it isn’t too far, you can take your time. Great place to see. Good parking.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 October 2023
- Shane BMelbourne, Australia20 contributionsQuick, easy, impressive. Kids loved it.Very easy to get to, lots of parking. There are about 100 steps down to the viewing platform so if mobility is an issue maybe reconsider, but our 10yo and 7yo managed easily. It wasn't an incredibly rough day, but there were still some very impressive moments watching the water surge through the cave. We probably only spent 15 minutes there but it's memorable for sure - The kids weren't very enthusiastic about the idea of seeing a cave with some waves... but they ended up really impressed!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 February 2024
- Schlepper1939Brisbane Region, Australia887 contributionsRemarkable in name and natureI have visited Tasmania many times and did not realise this cave existed. The return walk from the car park only takes 15 minutes, but is not for the faint hearted as there are steep steps to be negotiated. It would be awesome at high tide with a heavy swell coming in. Nice coastal views from the car park.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 March 2024
- Cheryl ASydney, Australia73 contributionsVery beautiful stop point on the way back from Port Arthur to HobartThis was a short walk from the car park but was mostly steps up and down. But definitely worth the effort we were very lucky when we got there. The tide was coming in and we got to see this really beautiful area in full force.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 April 2024
- Vahid SMelbourne, Australia194 contributionsAwe-inspiring adventureIt's an absolute must if you're exploring Tasmania's Tasman Peninsula! The walk down to the cave is as stunning as the cave itself, with breathtaking coastal views that'll make you want to stop and snap a pic every few steps. When you finally make it inside, you're met with this jaw-dropping sight: a massive cave opening framing the ocean beyond. It's like stepping into another world! Inside, the cave is full of cool rock formations and hidden nooks just waiting to be explored. You can't help but feel a sense of wonder at how nature created such an incredible place. Whether you're a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or just looking for a cool spot to check out, Remarkable Cave definitely lives up to its name. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 April 2024

This is a quick (free) stop on the day you are out exploring the Tasman peninsula. We had hired a private guide (such a wise decision) who took us here and several other beautiful spot as well as to the Port Arthur historic site.
One of its key features is that at a certain angle the whole looking through to the ocean resembles the shape of Tasmania. The walkway and stairs (around 50) could get crowded as there isn’t much space.
Lucky for us,As we were touring on a rare day without cruise ships in either Port Arthur or Hobart, we had this place largely to ourselves on a warm and sunny summer day.
Definitely worth a look.

Only 15 min return walk to the cave on well made paths and steps. A bit steep on the way back up but can take it slow for us oldies. Well worth the time to visit to see the shape of Tassie through the cave to the other end, plus the interesting rock formations.

We were headed back from Cape Raoul and just wanted to stop in somewhere to look at some scenery without having to walk anymore.
Go for a walk down the bottom for 5min, most people ignored the suggestion to stay on the platform. It's fantastic inside we spent an hour here. I think the photos speak for themselves

It was very windy on the day we visited and the wind coming through the tunnel was amazing. They have recently renovated the walkways and stairs and they are sturdy and easy to access. There is a ladder you can use to climb down into the cave at low tide but you have to climb over the walkway railing to access it. There are also views of cliffs from a lookout at the top.

Taken here by a local when visiting the area, had never heard of it before, but so glad I went. Spectacular location and the Remarkable Cave itself is unique and fascinating. The story I was told is the name refers to the multiple ocean entries to the Cave but also the fact that when you look straight through, you see a map of Tasmania. In any case, it's worth a visit. It's not a long trip down from the carpark, but the stairs are very steep and certainly not suitable for anyone with breathing or mobility problems.

A short walk from the viewing platform, the cave is a must see. If you are coming to see Port Arthur, you must drive 10-15 minutes to the cave. The tide was high when we were there but it was well worth the 5 minute walk down.

There are a few stairs but its an easy 15 minute return walk. Disappointed you couldn't get closer. It was a clam day the day we went so not much happening but a lovely area and when going to Port Arthur historical site only a few minutes away, worth taking a little time to check it out as well.

Its very easy to find on the peninsula, as its just past the Port Arthur historic site. It is well signed. There is a large car park at the end of the road.
There is signage showing the way to the cave with a good path and new access stairs which makes it very safe to access.
When getting down the steps there is a viewing platform which is designed to keep the sightseers safe but it would've been good to be able to get down lower on the beach / gravel to see into the cave better.
However, you can still see why the cave is called "Remarkable". You can see a silhouette of a map of Tasmania at the entrance to the cave.
When planning to go to see Port Arthur, put this on your itinerary to see. Its well worth while.

The Remarkable cave is located only 7km south of Port Arthur, so isn't too far to travel following completing your port Arthur experience.
It's free to enter which is always a bonus.
From the car park there is 115 steps downwards which leads to a viewing platform. On the viewing platform there is a ladder which you can use to get down to the sand and into the cave. I think this is actually intended for use in emergencies only, but most of the people I saw here were using it to go into the cave. There was no enforcement around to suggest otherwise.
Definitely worth visiting as an extension of your day in port Arthur

Driving directions please! The map is showing it’s inland with no roads. What do I search in Maps to drive there? Thank you 😊

Your best navigator is Google but this is pretty well where you go: If you're taking the main road around the Peninsula and go past Port Arthur historical site on your left, go a bit further and turn left into c347. Take the road to the very end. There's a car park there. You need to take a short walk to the beach level. that could account for it looking in the middle of nowhere. it's not very far from the car park. enjoy.
