Where to start! I did Three Capes Signature Walk with TWC as a birthday gift to myself. I had no idea it would one of the greatest experiences of my life and reignited my love for Tasmania.
We had a group of 14 who were all so amazing, supportive, fun and interesting. As the only Tasmanian on the walk, I loved seeing Tassie through the eyes of our visitors, it was so special. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to do my first ever walk with. Our guides Mike and Caity were simply glorious. They made everything so seamless, were so warm and welcoming and Mike treated us all to a jam session at Pillar Lodge on night one that blew us all away. What an asset to TWC they both are.

The food.....oh my god,......the food. It was spectacular! You will not go hungry on this walk and definetly not thirsty with a huge range of wines, beers, hot drinks and cordial on offer at each lodge. I was genuinely shocked at what was available to us. Although i am not a sweets eater, my fellow walkers RAVED about the afternoon cakes that were available every afternoon (they looked delish!)

The lodges are super comfy, gorgeous lounge areas to all hang out, have a drink, read a book and just soak in the view. Beds are really comfy, misting showers were great, toilets spotlessly clean (and not smelly at all!), drying rooms were brilliant and I really appreciated that the lodges had great supplies for blisters etc.

If you pack according to the gear list, your pack weight will be more than manageable. While there are some challenging parts to the walk, you have lots of stops, take it slow and steady, go at your own pace, the guides will support and encourage you and you will absolutely love it.

I could not fault this walk. It is luxurious and worth every cent. I can't wait to get back up there and do it all again :)

Thank you for making this the best birthday ever x

What a fabulous way to celebrate your birthday Mel - I'm so glad that we helped to make it special for you! Thanks for taking the time to write this glowing review. You've covered it - the scenery, our talented guides, comfortable lodges, delicious food and wine are all part of the package. And you're right, as a Tasmanian it's easy to take our beautiful state for granted, it is a privilege to see awe in the eyes of our guests on a daily basis. Hopefully we'll see you exploring another beautiful area of Tasmania again soon.

We enjoyed every minute of this walk with its spectacular views of jaw dropping cliffs, cool rainforest and lonely beaches.
Tas Walking Co were excellent with comfy lodges, warm showers, awesome food and our wonderful knowledgeable guides Piper and Nat. The walks are solid but not too arduous, with rest stops, tea breaks and lunch
Highly recommended

This was a really awesome walk. The walk itself is spectacular -- amazing views, ecosystems and wildlife. The Tasmanian Walking Company offers the only luxury option within the National Park - you do the same walk as the public national park huts, but with more comfort (and a lot less pack weight)! Other private companies just offer the odd day walk in the park.

The food was amazing: cake upon arrival after a hard day's walk; wine/beer/soft drinks each evening with canapes; and then a delicious dinner with dessert. The lodges are stunning, with large windows and amazing views. Comfortable beds, mist showers and, at Cape Pillar Lodge, a cold plunge pool with hot shower, which I HIGHLY recommend.

Our guides Michael and Fern were terrific. I was one of the slower walkers in the group, and they were very encouraging and supportive -- I never felt rushed.

The walk is rated easy to moderate. I'd say it is really more moderate than easy (the easy aspect may be because the trails are very well made; but there are a lot of steps, which are not all that easy!). You carry around 9kg of pack weight, so I recommend practising with this weight on steps or hills before you go. I am a 55 year old with reasonable fitness, and I managed but the final day was pretty exhausting. Having said that, I do recommend doing the optional Cape Huay side-walk on the final day, the views are spectacular.

Weather wise, we went in early April and had 2 days of rain and 2 sunnier days; all up, pretty good walking weather. Any hotter and the walking would have been more difficult. The TWC provides great packs, and also rain jackets and poles if needed (I had my own - I highly recommend using poles, especially for the steps).

The only downside is that you don't get to control the timing of your start each day or of morning tea or lunch. But that is a small price to pay for the lighter packs, excellent organisation, delicious food and comfortable lodging.

Final tip: pack what they say to pack, no more and no less.

Thanks for this great review Kristen and for your helpful advice to future walkers. You've summed our experience up perfectly. With TWC, guests walk the full length of the Three Capes Track fully-guided and with meals and accommodation in our private lodges within the National Park. It's great to hear that you enjoyed your time with us - creating an awesome experience is our aim. Hopefully we'll see you exploring a beautiful and wild part of Tasmanian another time.

A real shame that this company is one of the biggest developers of national parks and World Heritage Areas. If I had known, I would have gone with another company. One that is ethical and leaves only footprints.

Hi Sonya U, What we do is clearly stated on our website – I have gone through our bookings and our system does not show that you walked with us.  We take great care to do ethically sensitive and small scale sustainable developments where appropriate in national parks. I would be more than happy to speak with you directly.  Thanks, Georgia.

An amazing 4 days, three nights experience run by Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service. You carry only your daily 2 litres of water, clothing and food as the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service provide exceptional architecturally sustainable accommodation with fully equipped kitchens. Each of the the three accommodation sites is staffed by knowledgeable expert rangers who provide relevant pertinent and entertaining additional information which is underpinned by a detailed booklet that you are given at check in day one at Port Arthur. This is a walking trek designed for the moderately fit; if you can walk for four hours each day and can carry a 12kg pack you will be fine. You don’t need a guide on the track each day as it is a marvellous well constructed walking adventure with beautifully sculptured contemplation and information sites spaced regularly along an ever changing landscape. You need to book through the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Website as only 48 people can be accommodated at each site each evening.
I just made it as an overweight early retiree with heaps of determination and I’ll be back to do it again.

A very enjoyable tour of a beautiful part of south-easternTasmania. The three guides were professional, informative and made sure each member of the group felt included. The scenery was stunning, the lodge accommodation was very well-designed and comfortable while the food and wine provided were excellent.

What a fabulous trip! The 3 Capes Lodge hike was harder than we expected, but the experience was amazing and we were very proud we made it being 57/60 years olds with very little training. The actual walking track is a feat in itself, a lot of time & effort has gone into building it, and the lodges are amazing, very luxe, this is hiking at its most luxurious. Great food and great wines, with a super comfy bed at the end of a long day, hiking doesn't get much better than this! A special shout out to our guides, Steph & Rhi, enthusiasm plus, professional, entertaining and just all round great girls. They really added to a great trip that we will be telling stories about for years. Totally recommended, get out there and do it!!

The three capes is a 4 day, 3 night 48km trail that (despite the name) visits two capes - Cape Huay and Cape Pillar. The 'third' cape is actually a view of Cape Raoul across the bay which one sees on their first nights accomodation (This can be hiked as a seperate day trip if someone desires this).

Unlike other hikes you actually need to pay 500 dollars (At time of writing) to do the three capes. This includes a boat ride from Port Arthur (The start of the track) and a bus back from Fortiscue bay (The end of the track) to Port Arthur + guaranteed accommodation each night. I initially thought this was a little steep but when you see the effort that has been put into the trail, in particular the accomodation (which is lux) its actually reasonable. Visitor numbers are capped and you need to book through the three capes website. Availability we found, particularly during summer to be scant. Some tour companies like the Tasmanian walking company also offer 'guided walks' in which they cover the three capes but stay at different accomodation. I didn't go on these so I cannot comment.

Technically if you cannot get onto the three capes track and want to do it - you can actually camp at Fortiscue bay and access Cape Pillar and Cape Huay as long day hikes from same. You could cover about half the three capes track with this method and not pay a cent (apart from the parks pass).

Fitness wise its not that challenging - although you will be sore at the end of it.

You don't need to bring as much equipment as for example - the overland track as there is no need to pack a tent, mattresses or any cooking equipment (this is all taken care of).

The accomodation was beautiful and all featured some stunning views of the surrounding environment.

The views particularly on days 3 and 4 are spectacular and we really enjoyed the hike.

We have no real complaints at all.

I would recommend it to others. It's possibly the best thing we have done in Tasmania in over 4 weeks worth of travels.
