The tarn shelf is a memorable day walk with something for everyone. The short walks around Russell Falls are delightful, but for me, the highlight of Mt Field is the drive to lake Dobson and the longer walks above the tree line. We walked the...More

We had one of the best days during our stay in Tasmania. After leaving the car at the carpark near the lake we followed a small trail and a gravel road, which are leading to the skiing area. After passing several huts the trail winds...More

I have done the Tarn Shelf circuit 4 times now. The last time I tried reversing the direction and heading from the lake up to Twilight Tarn and then out across the shelf. I much preferred this direction and so did the people I was...More

I recently made the walk to the Tarn shelf to see the Fagus Trees as they turned colours and dropped leaves prior to winter. Though the walk from the Lake Dobson Carpark is quite a hike due to it climbing steeply, a well formed road...More
