About
View our unique gifts and souvenirs crafted from Bull Kelp. Discover the process of cutting, scoring, stitching and manipulating the kelp to transform it into a variety of objects. Call in and enjoy a coffee while you browse through the wide range of kelp items, local produce, handmade gifts, art and crafts from artists and makers found on and off the island. King Island Kelp Craft is located in the Reekara Community Complex, which is the former Reekara Primary School building. With the support of the community, the local Lions Club stepped in with an initiative designed to preserve the building by utilising it as a Community Complex. The property remains open for functions, events and shopping for creative items in our quaint store.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This shop is located in a building on the left hand side of the main Currie - Wickham road at Reekara if heading to Cape Wickham. It is just over 20 klms from Currie.

The range and variety of the kelp handicrafts was quite amazing. There are some very innovative and imaginary people around. Unfortunately none of the kelp items appealed to us.

Of more interest were the paintings, needlework, jewellery, wooden goods and other hand made items on display. We did purchase two beautifully knitted beanies.

Worth a look if travelling to Cape Wickham.

Many of us indulged in the amazing craft work of this region. A very interesting little shop with some very different souvenirs to take home.

The lovely lady in shop - owner producer was very informative giving us a full history of how the items are made, from collecting the kelp to the final product. Worth the drive and visit. Items a bit pricey for our budget but still worth seeing.

We dropped into the tiny Kelp Shop in Grassy to have a look at all the interesting animal objects made from dried kelp. It’s a great place to shop if looking for a souvenir from King Island as it’s very unique.

We were captivated by the creations made out of kelp. This boutique is a must see place whilst on King Island. I have never seen this unique craft before and was so surprised at the number of Australian creatures Betty has created using this natural resource. We now have our momento from King Island, Thank you.
Proud too that the owners are from our wonderful State - Western Australia, and our favourite holiday destination, Busselton. And they are Fremantle Docker supporters too.

This little shop in Grassy is unique. Betty makes a range of animals out of bull kelp and the finish is really unique. From seahorses to seals and lots of other creatures and novelty items this is not something that you will ever see again. A great memento from King Island.

I was puzzled at how Kelp could be used as a medium for craft and was pleasantly surprised to see how this product had been moulded into attractive representations of kelp.

I am amazed by the way Betty and her husband have turned washed up Bull Kelp into such a world phenomenon. When visiting King Island, as you must do, this is just another one of the fantastic must see's here. I am a tour couch driver here, and every tour that I have taken into King Island Kelp Craft has been besotted by the process and products that Betty produces. Betty will personally give a rundown on how they manufacture their exotic articles that are for sale. Well worth a trip to King Island just to see this. But there are heaps more of these precious icons that nowhere else in the world can offer. See you here soon.
