- Heather LTownsville, Australia61 contributionsGood place to visitWe didn’t play golf but visited the club for lunch. The views really are amazing, it is right beside the tallest lighthouse in Australia which in itself is worth seeing. We called ahead and booked a table for lunch. The food was good standard fare and reasonably priced. The staff friendly and helpful. Definitely a place to visit whilst on your stay in King Island. Even better if you play golf.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 November 2023
- Andrew W3 contributionsGolf HeavenThe golf course is up there with the best (e.g. Portrush, Dornoch, Barnbougle, New South Wales, Humewood). The Lighthouse Loop (14th to 18th) is a set of great golfing holes with spectacular scenery. We played 18 in the morning then did two Lighthouse Loops and my cup was full. The wind was blowing 40kph gusting 60 kph but the designers give you ample fairway and approach space to negate this. The clubhouse is a demountable but the food, wine and beer are excellent and all local fresh produce. The cabins are basic but comfortable. I couldn't wish for anything more on a golf trip. Thank you to all the hard working staff at Cape Wickham.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 February 2024
- RicardioMelbourne, Australia19 contributionsBucket List GolfA Bucket list course that is a must play for serious golfers. Would be tough for 18+ handicappers due to forced carries off many tees, but fairways and green surrounds are wide enough that it has to be a bad shot to loose balls. (or an extreme windy day) In the two days we played in a 1 to 2 club wind. Plenty of snakes on the course, just watch your step and keep your distance, and they leave you aloneVisited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 11 March 2024
- Garry B3 contributionsA golf day to remember.Played the best golf course in Australia. Magnificent course with truly stunning vistas. Be warned! Take extra golf balls, off the fairway eqals a new ball. Also had dinner at the restaurant which was terrific. The staff were amazing! Daisy made the day, between serving after golf drinks to providing a place to freshen up after the round. A day to truly remembered. Thankyou.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 May 2024

On the first evening of our recent visit (Monday 8 March 2021) the friendly Manager made an impromptu welcome to our group expressing his desire to ensure our time at Cape Wickham was memorable. I`m happy to report a great trip. However I must several observations that detracted from the groups enjoyment level.
1. As a self-confessed ‘golf tragic’ my main reason for visiting King Island was for the golf. No problems here, a brilliant golf course.
2. Accommodation also was perfect for any visitor`s needs.
3. The area of disappointment concerned club house activities.
a. on the first night we were informed of a considerable shortage in popular menu items like scallops and beef. I did consider the Public Holiday factor but really this ‘excuse’ holds little water given current resources.
b. A pet hate of mine is an out of date web page and this was certainly a disappointment. My mouth had been watering for months as I had viewed the Cape Wickham menu many times over and new exactly what I was going to order. so to discover no Tasting Platter and no Cheese Platter was very disappointing. Yes a seasonal menu can be difficult to maintain but a nice cheese platter should be ‘doable’ especially on King Island.
c. The breakfast service was slow with two of my mates waiting over 40 minutes, with my room mate walking out because he was due on the Tee !
d. On the Wednesday I was obliged to walk the course as a result of motorised cart issues. e.

We went for dinner in this stunning location. We were not guests of the Golf resort but they kindly agreed for us to dine there. The place was super busy so service was slow. Not everything on the menu was available. Our salmon was over cooked. We were a bit disappointed with the food. Staff were not enforcing mask wearing when patrons weren’t in their seats. The scenery was spectacular. Worth the drive for lunch.

Fantastic course that is under financial duress. Absolutely one of the best courses I've ever played. Stayed two nights and played the course three times. Unfortunately the change of ownership has brought on a reduction in staffing on the greenkeeping side. Greens and fairways are fantastic, but the bunkers are showing the effects of a lack of labour. The carts are the oldest and saddest I've seen on a resort course. (Apparently 5 new carts are due soon so it will be a lottery) Disappointing given the tariff we paid.
Now to the resort side. The accomadation is good but basic. No Wi-Fi in the rooms? The Wi-Fi like the electricity is hit in miss in the club house, which is basically a marquee and some shipping containers. The service is also hit and miss, 90% of the staff are fantastic, the other 10% can make for a disappointing experience. They can source fresh crayfish but fresh milk is unavailable, a dairy is just down the road, go figure. The food was equally hit and miss, really long wait times for meals to be served ( read 2 hours wait) equipment breakdowns were the main problem which comes back to a lack of funding from the new absentee owners. Overall I'd go back if improvements were made.

Cape Wickham Golf Course was simply magnificent. The weather was very kind to us no wind and relatively warm.
The course is easier to cart and the last seven holes are back along the coastline from the lighthouse to the clubhouse.
The seven are extremely tricky with big fairways and the beach proving a natural
sand trap.
For the serious golfer a real challenge for social golfers a lot of fun!!!
The clubhouse offered light lunches. The toasties were scrumptious as were the pies washed down with a nice beer.
Loved it!!!

Not played many links courses. We stayed and played as part of Golf Journey tours. You can see the ocean from just about every hole. Take plenty of balls, mens tees very unforgiving to drive.
Accomodation was good and comfortable without being fantastic, but we weren’t there to sleep! Food was excellent.
