- JO 18Perth, Australia21 contributionsMy favourite viewAmazing view on a clear day….. But the mosquitoes were alive and well. It is a steady walk with plenty of spots to rest on the way. The only issue was those wanting to ‘race’ to the top and not waiting for others to stop and allowing them to pass. The view from the lookout is certainly worth the climb which can be tricky if you are older, not fit, and/ or lumbered with too much clothing. Make sure you take a camera and plenty of water.Visited December 2022Written 20 January 2023
- Rick WSevenoaks, United Kingdom2,107 contributionsChallenging steep walk to a lovely view!It takes about 40 minutes to walk from the car park up the well marked trail to the lookout over Wine Glass Bay. The path is well made and full of steps! It is challenging but taken steadily a perfectly reasinable trail for anyone who is fit and active - and even for those wha are not! The view of Wine Glass Bay is lovely - although we did not take the 1000 steps down to the bay itself!Visited February 2023Written 18 February 2023
- JamstarBKSydney, Australia189 contributionsWorth the hikeFabulous hike to the lookout. Signs said 1.5 hours return but took us half that time (reasonably fit and no breaks). It was cloudy when we were there but still worth the walk - the view is beautiful. A highlight of the east coast for us!Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 February 2023
- LooksatSydney, Australia133 contributionsNot really a must see.Honestly, the enjoyment in this walk was mainly in the achievement, as it was a hard uphill slog and a careful descent if your knees aren’t as young as they were. The view is of a bay, no more, no less. I actually enjoyed the view of the peaks as we drove into town more. Take walking poles if you have them.Visited February 2023Written 19 February 2023
- Carrell PEpsom, United Kingdom48 contributionsAn excellent walk with great viewsWe stayed in Cole’s Bay which is a 5 minute drive to the Wineglass Bay car park. There were plenty of spaces when we arrived and the car park is fully tarmaced and has good toilet facilities. The paths on the walk to Wineglass Bay lookout are great. We were asking ourselves whether this was an easy or moderate walk as we had seen differing reviews. As it is climbing all the way (and I am 60 and reasonably fit) I would say it was a moderate walk. I would estimate it took us about an hour with a few photo stops etc. Climbing was mostly on well laid steps. The views at the lookout were great and the platform and walkways were well signposted. We decided to go down to the beach. Warning signs were placed to disencourage those who couldn’t do the 1000 steps down and 1000 steps up again. The good news is that there are only 905 steps!! The better news is that if you do decide to go to the beach you will not be disappointed. We spent a couple of hours on the beach and only saw a handful of other people. Some were just passing through doing the Hazards Walk. So pick a good weather day and spend 4-5 hours on this great 2 part walk. If you don’t fancy the beach then walk down the one way track from the Lookout which takes about 45 minutes.Visited February 2023Written 22 February 2023
- Josephine LeeSingapore, Singapore60 contributionsAmazing climb but not for those with bad knees and inadequate fitnessFirst you need to buy a National park pass at the freycinet visitor centre . $40 per car or about $82 for two months to visit all the national parks including cradle mountain and Port Arthur.. Then you drive 3 min further down the road to park at the base of the climb. The first part brings you up to Coles Bay . About 90 minutes return . Quite an incline - quite tough if you have bad knees and not very fit. Second part goes to wineglass lookout - incline worse than the first part but you are rewarded with a fantastic view at the top. About 3 hrs return if you go all the way to the top .Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 March 2023
- Dominique BBrisbane, Australia19 contributionsSuch a great view of the bayWe did the short walk around the lighthouse where you can look back to wineglass bay. The walk is only 15 minutes if you didn't stop. Its a flat walk. You drive a short distance from the tourist information Centre. The wineglass bay tours want to charge you $290 per person. Just a rip off! No food, just a seat on the boat. I refuse to pay these operators such exorbitant prices. I can see why some only go once a day. I am sure the weather also plays a part because the wind goes right through you and the bay can be quiet rough. Check in with the Tourist information Centre and they will give you the options available. You can buy a ticket from the tourist centers valid for twelve months to access all the national parks throughout Tasmania. You can have up to 8 people on the one ticket. cost is around $82.Visited February 2023Written 6 March 2023
- RealbluntusWellington, New Zealand56 contributionsWow! Just wow! This place was great. The walk to the lookout does get the heart pumping, but it isn't too much of a barrier for people of ok fitness. Once at the lookout, the stunning views are reward enough. We also did the extension of this walk, to walk down to the beach itself. The walk down was OK, but back again was quite something. Not an overly long walk, but the constant walking up stairs does get taxing. Very glad we took plenty of water with us that day. The beach itself is just stunning. White, powdery sand and no waves, meant we didn't want to leave. The water was very cold, so once our feet and legs had cooled enough from the walk, we got out of the there. If I had the chance again tomorrow, I would be back there.Visited January 2023Written 11 March 2023

The lookout provides just stunning view - we did the walk down to Wineglass Bay early in the morning and followed through to Hazard Bay and back to the parking along the coast line/through the bush forest. The tour was very good to walk and very well marked - just an excellent experience.

A walk to the top is well worth the beautiful views. Easy parking available. There are several viewing spots to capture breathtaking pictures. You can also hike down to the beach.

Came to Coles Bay to see this lookout. There is a 40 minut walk to the lookout, which has Coles Bay Lookout then wineglass Bay.
It has beautiful views of the area and the Freycinet national park.

My wife and I enjoyed the hike. We're from Florida, and we enjoy viewing and walking along all kinds of beaches. There were several other sightseers here.

Rather than doing a full walking trail over a number of hours, you can do the lookout only. Much shorter and good if you are tight for time (however, I would recommend a longer walk/hike if you have time.

Now getting on in years and not really up to long walks up hill and then down again. Taking a breather when two young girls jog on up the hill. Don't you just hate that. So inspired by their enthusiasm, we plodded on. Once at the lookout we were delighted to see a tall ship at anchor in the bay. A well-earned reward for perseverance.

Is it possible to enter the park before 8am if we purchase a national park ticket online? Does anyone know if you need to have your pass printed?
Thanks!

There is a unmanned “payment station” in the parking area - clear instructions displayed on how to use it : Lift lid, complete details on envelope, insert cash into envelope, tear off slip (to be displayed on your dashboard as proof of payment) and then post envelope in slot.

Hi I am travelling with my dad who is 78.I do want to go to the wineglass bay but not sure if the walk is good for dad. Also, any idea what is there to do in the national park for a person with limited walking abilities. All I am seeing are rather long walks. There is no point going if we cant do anything. Any ideas?

I agree with the other comments. Safe to carry a baby, and there are places to rest. Also look at doing the boat trip to Wineglass Bay, well worth it!

Hi! Is there a lookout you can just drive straight up to for Wineglass Bay/freycinet area? And if so, where is it? We have a 10mth baby.
Also i assume you can go for a swim there? Thanks!

Go to the visitor center first. If you don't have one, purchase your parks pass here. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
You can drive up to Cape Tourville and walk around the light house with great views and easy access (it's very windy up there).
Sleepy Bay is only accessible by a steep track - not suitable for strollers or swimming.
Wineglass Bay lookout is one hours hike up, up, up, quite steep at times and not suitable for strollers; but rewards with fantastic scenery.
Wineglass Bay is in the NP and not accessible by car, either hike there (first up, then down, approx 3-4 hours one way), or you can go on a Wineglass Bay cruise from Coles Bay.

The only ticket you need to buy is the one to get into the national park. You buy it at the information centre on the road in
You don't need another ticket to do the walk. Enjoy
