What a great couple of hours with our host Declan. A wealth of knowledge about oysters and the region. The oysters, mussels and experience is a must for anyone visiting Freycinet.

Amazing tour, even for those who don’t enjoy eating oysters. Didn’t realise my partner wasn’t too keen on eating oysters, so I ate 24 of them, which made the experience even better for me. It’s okay, my partner did also enjoy the tour; he ate most of the mussels (which kind of made me sad, because they were delicious) and enjoyed the overall experience of basically becoming a self-proclaimed, expert oyster shucker.

Declan, our tour guide, was informative and friendly, and accommodated to the fact that the weather wasn’t great. But even the gloomy weather did not dampen our experiences. After being waist deep in the sea, and rained on, at the end, I was completely dry thanks to the cute outfit things provided. Overall experience was interactive and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in a hands-on tour.

We were after a couple of quiet days on Coles Bay but after reading all the rave reviews of the Oyster Bay tour I thought popping out for a two hour tour was still “resting”. We met Declan owner/operator guide at Freycinet Marine Farm and had a look around before we hopped in a well equipped mini-bus and drove a short 5min distance to the oyster farm. There were 6 people on the tour including ourselves and Declan a well versed guide. Got a bit of local knowledge and passed a Tassie Devil sanctuary on the way. Quickly we were in waders and tasting freshly opened oysters standing in the bay. It’s worth the $145 just to eat such a fresh and juicy morsel in such a stunning environment. We learned a lot from Declan and it’s one of the best school excursions I’ve been on cause it included wine :P Beforehand, we were shown how to shuck our own oysters which was amazing, tucked into half a dozen fresh as oysters , plus a bowl of steamed mussels and a glass of Riesling all whilst learning on a wine barrell and the view smacking you in the face. A great tour and highly recommended.

Absolutely awesome tour. To put waders on and head out into the oyster farm was a terrific experience, but to have an oyster straight from the water was totally delicious. Declan explained everything. Not sure where I thought an oyster came from but certainly know now. The oysters were amazing. Highly recommend going on this tour, definitely well worth it.

The tour guid needs to win awards. He was amazing, knowledgeable, attentive and passionate about the oyster farm and how it works which really came through.

Was good to find out about the oysters, how they grow them and as well as wading out, then getting to eat the home grown oysters with some wine.

This is a tour that is not to be missed. Small group ensured individual attention. Declan was knowledgeable and personable and took the time needed to allow everyone to enjoy and learn. Learning the art of shucking was a bonus and provided a fun sense of achievement. The oysters and mussels served with a glass of local wine was an excellent way to end the tour. Highly recommend

I booked the night before the tour and got an immediate confirmation. Declan was a knowledgeable and engaging guide who made us very welcome. I found the tour interesting and informative and particularly enjoyed learning the correct way to shuck an oyster. I was so impressed with the tour that I made sure I went to the restaurant for lunch and was treated to the best bowl of mussels that I have ever eaten. All in all a tremendous experience.
