Interesting lighthouse on Mersey Bluff for its unique but not-uncommon red stripes. The stripes may seem peculiar but they are there for a purpose to make the lighthouse stand out amongst its surroundings for day time. Hence that's why the stripes are only on the seaward facing side. Very popular area as it is right beside the busy caravan park and entrance to the harbour where there is a beach and recreational grounds.

We had a few hours up our sleeve before getting on the the spirit of Tasmania. So decided to go there look around and relax. Great spot , great views and plenty of parking easy to get to and back out to go to spirit.

Went up for a look around - car park right next to lighthouse so easy to get to (might be different in high season but no problem for us). Like the story of the lighthouse and the views are great. Nice memorial to a man who lost his life trying to save a friend which just added to the overall appeal. Would recommend

Just made a quick pit stop to check out the lighthouse but its not open to the public. Nice view though and seating to sit and appreciate it.I wouldnt go out my way to see it but if you are in the area its worth dropping in as right next to the carpark so no long walk or trekking required.

Interesting headland on which the lighthouse sits, stunning views of Bass Strait, Devonport city and the coastline to the east and west. Walking around the headland you may find genuine aboriginal rock carvings. Walking track leads from this car park to a small blowhole, nearby Bluff beach, Drift Restaurant, Surf Club complex and play area for children and continues to Mersey River Mouth, Spirit of the Sea Statue, Maritime Museum and ultimately the city centre (approx. 2kms).

The coastal walk up to the lighthouse is well aved and full of wildlife including padamelons, small birds, seals and echnida. Stunning sea views out to the headlands and down to the rocks where large sea birds perch and make their nests. Hidden away between the vegetation the path winds upwards from the beach to the lightouse are wher open ground is available for running about and games. Cna be blustery but clears the head nicely.

Excellent coastal walk taking in ocean views & ranges surrounding Devonport. An easy walk from the CBD along the Mersey River pass the bluff and up to the lighthouse.

This is an easy and pleasant walk from the town centre. There are nice views and you can continue your walk on around the foreshore if you wish.

Visited the Lighthouse on a bleak and rainy day, and the distinctive red stripes on the white background showed why this was an important design feature. Unfortunately our view over Bass Strait was restricted by the conditions.

Great views looking out to Bass Straight. There is also a lookout a short distance away where you can view the rocks below. On a clear day you can see all the way to Table Cape
