Great experience
May 2021 • Couples
We travelled with this company after finishing the Overland Track, from Lake St Clair to Hobart. Our driver Pat was extremely kind and very knowledgeable, pointing out many sights on the way back to Hobart.

Great service, very reliable
Apr. 2021
Two days before we flew to Launceston, we went to book our rental car but there was not a single one available anywhere, so we ended up basing ourselves in Launceston and scrambled to find a way to get around and see northern Tasmania in the short time we were there.

Cradle Mountain Coaches were able to get us up to Lake St Claire on short notice for our 2 night stay, even stopped on the way up to get some anniversary shots. While we were up there, COVID lockdown happened, so we weren't sure how and if we would be able to come back down.

Our driver (Terry), was fabulous. He kept in touch with us to coordinate pick up time, and came right to our cabin door to drive us and our luggage to the main office for check out, then stopped on the way back for lunch, then food and other necessities (for while we were in self-isolation at our next hotel, the Sebel who were also fantastic), taking all necessary COVID precautions (masks, sanitizers etc, even going into the store to get things for us) . He was absolutely amazing with a great sense of humor. Luckily our tests came back negative and we were able to enjoy the last couple of days of our holiday, but he went above and beyond, and saved our holiday. Great service, and can highly recommend.

Great Transportation Option for Overland Track
Dec. 2020
We used Cradle Mountain Coaches for our transportation to and from the Overland track (Launceston > Cradle Mountain, Lake St Clare > Hobart). We were happy with both drivers provided, who arrived promptly and got us to our destinations safely. They provide a baggage option at a cost of 30 dollars per bag. We were also able to purchase gas canisters from the driver, which was helpful as I couldn't bring these on the plane.

Cost wise, private transportation in Tasmania is expensive. Cradle mountains prices were comparable with it's various competitors. Its obviously cheaper to book this as a group with the cost of 4 being the same cost as 1. My tip here would be for groups <4 try to combine with others to reduce costs - the best way to do this would be to email these guys and see if a group is available on the day or departure. Alternative you can join the various Facebook groups dedicated to the overland track (simply look up 'overland track' in Facebook and you will find some groups). In the end we had a group transportation to the overland but a private transportation at the end. The private nature of the end transportation worked in our favour as we actually ended up finishing the overland a bit earlier than expected due to some adverse weather and were able to call and reorganise the lift out to occur a bit earlier than previously planned (Phone reception available on mount ossa).

Excessive speed, reckless driver.
Nov. 2020 • Couples
The driver was utterly reckless. Nice enough and on time, but was driving 130 in a 100 zone and 100 through a 40 km/hr roadwork zone (gravel road and I could feel the slipping) on the way from Lake St. Claire to Cradle Mountain. Most Tasmanian locals would agree that much of the time the speed limit is too much on many of Tasmania’s roads (especially so on narrow and winding mountain roads). He also aggressively tailgated a ute which was already doing the speed limit of 100 before performing a dangerous overtake so he could go at 130 km/hr again. I was so relieved upon arriving at out destination instead of being wrapped around a tree in a ditch. It sounded like there was pressure on the driver from management to get someone to the airport in the next trip leg, but it is so unacceptable to drive like that.

CMC, if you are reading this, the driver had a bald head, glasses and a tattoo on at least his right arm. This person should not be driving coaches/at all. He was saying he had retired multiple times and been asked to come back if that narrows it down for you as to which staff member.

I could see the speedo at 130, but couldn’t get a photo of it. I took screenshots of my GPS tracking (attached) which shows you two examples of speeding. In 2 minutes he travelled 4 kms and in the next it was 2 kms in 1 minute. That’s at least 120 km/hr. See the time in the top left and the km remaining for this measurement. Look at the difference in time and difference in remaining distance between two photos.
You should implement vehicle tracking with speeding detection at a minimum, but this driver should be fired/reported to the police.

Flexible timetable to accommodate flight departure
Jun. 2019 • Friends
We did not realised McDermott coach only has one service out from Cradle Mountain to Launceston airport in winter (depart 2pm). And the lady told us there was no other option but to catch a cab ($400)

Luckily, Grant the manager at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Lodge gave us the contact for Cradle Mountain coach.

We were picked up early at our accommodation for $80 pp. We were the only 2 passengers in the minivan and was advised that the company is happy to meet flight departure times as their timetable is not fixed.
Totally happy with service. Will definitely book them again.
