About
The Cape Bruny Lighthouse is the most iconic & dominant landmark on Bruny Island. Nestled on the sea-cliff tops in the South Bruny National Park, at the southern tip of Bruny Island. Built from 1836 she sits proud, overlooking the craggy coastlines of Southern Tasmania. This is the southernmost lighthouse tour in Australia. The tours to the top operate daily. For just $15 you will hear stories of shipwrecks, convicts and how the lighthouse keepers performed their daily duties. Learn how the lighthouse was built and experience the wild ocean and sea cliff views from above. This lighthouse is independently leased from Parks and Wildlife and operated by Craig Parsey who's family lived at Cape Bruny during the 1970's as Lighthouse Keepers. $15 is a small price to pay for such a wonderful experience, the icing on the cake! One of the must do attractions on Bruny Island.

- Yue Z3 contributionsExcellentReally nice tour with Bunzy and all friendly team mates. Me and my friend enjoy the spectacular view on Bruny Island and also feel grateful for Bunzy’s detailed and interesting explanation. Overall, highly recommend:)Visited December 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 13 December 2022
- Stephen DHobart, Australia80 contributionsGreat views and interesting historyThe day we visited it was rather cold, very windy and showery but this certainly added to the experience and gave one an appreciation of what the lighthouse keepers would have had to deal with during their time serving and maintainining the important facilities. Our guide was very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable and helped bring the history of the lighthouse alive. The little museum was also worth a visit with some interesting exhibits, photos etc that helped outline the history of the lighthouse, and the rather tough life had by the lighthouse keepers and their families.Visited December 2022Written 14 December 2022
- Anneliese WWellington, New Zealand5 contributionsWell worth a visit! The guided tour in the lighthouse was fantastic. Very informative and great value at $15 per person. The views from the balcony were stunning and well worth the climb up the path and the internal stairs. There are 72 metal spiral stairs - they are easy climbing but could be a bit nerve-wracking for those who suffer from a fear of heights.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 January 2023

The view up on the platform of the lighthouse is stunning and mesmerizing. Perhaps the meeting point relocated to the museum at the guard house with some explanation there would be even better.Visited August 2023Written 14 August 2023
- WanderingKookaburraSydney, Australia46 contributionsMust Do in Bruny IslandThis short guided tour takes you to the top of the lighthouse with excellent views. Our guide Shane was great - warm, knowledgeable and helpful (offered to take photos of us at the top). Great to learn about the history and function of the lighthouse. We booked the tour online an hour in advance once we had a better idea of our ETA. You can see how many spots remaining in each tour on their website too. From the car park, it's a brief 5-10 minute uphill walk to the lighthouse so aim to arrive earlier than the tour start time. Also make sure to check out the museum near the car park after your visit. Toilet facilities also available behind the museum.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 October 2023

Cam we bring our dog with us when we visit the lighthouse, if she stays in the car?

Hello, we do see people walking dogs in the area. However, I believe dogs are not allowed. It would be best to check with the Waratah Wynyard council for clarification. We hope to see you at the Table Cape Lighthouse soon :)

Hi, Can i ask if there is an age limit for kid to visit the lighthouse? My son will be 3 years old when we visit in November this year.
Thank you!

Hello, yes our age limit is 5 years. Your son can enter the lighthouse and look on the inside but unfortunately won't be able to climb the spiral stairs or go onto the balcony. Kind Regards Team Bruny Island Safaris

Could you tell us what the dirt road from Lunawarra to the Cape Bruny Lighthouse is like? Specifically, we will be on large touring bikes (bitumen tyres) that can handle a firm dirt surface but not loose sand, bulldust or long stretches of loose gravel. If it changes over time with rain, grading etc, are we able to phone the local council (or some other organisation) closer to the date?

Hello, the road from Lunawanna to Cape Bruny is approximately 18km. It's a firm gravel surface and generally not bad. It has a few potholes here and there and corrugations in some areas are worse than others. We see plenty of bikes come through. It does get a bit slippery and slushy if it's been graded or wet for long periods of time. Call us or Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife for any updates.
Kind Regards
Craig

Hello Nicola,
Unfortunately there is no accommodation available at the Lightstation. Also dogs are not allowed in the National Park. If you would like to stay somewhere on Bruny Island I suggest you contact Bruny Island Escapes or Bruny Island Accommodation Services.
Kind Regards
Craig
