- 58jnapperBrisbane, Australia358 contributionsA Disaster RememberedAfter watching this on our Televisions screens it seemed appropriate to visit this site when in Tasmania in October 2022. A very moving display and Centre to visit and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area that was familiar with the disaster. There is quite a lot to see, so give yourself plenty of time to check everything out. The staff were also very friendly and happy to answer questions and share information.Visited October 2022Written 10 January 2023
- sueellen2Stansbury, Australia591 contributionsIn our Top 5!Four of us were travelling around Tasmania from the mainland. We were in two minds whether to do the Beaconsfield Mine Museum whilst travelling through the Tamar Valley. You can only visit so many museums! So pleased we did and would all rate it in the top 5 things we did in Tasmania. It was so well presented and informative and well worth the entry fee. It also has a great gift shop if you are looking for souvenirs. We would highly recommend visiting this attraction.Visited February 2023Written 5 February 2023
- Bev C49 contributionsBeaconsville explainedVisited today and was impressed how well set up the displays are particularly of the tragedy that happened in 2006. The museum was interesting and well laid out. It was a self guided tour and the map was helpful. Reasonable priced gifts in the shopVisited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 February 2023
- thornbury_travellersThornbury, Australia343 contributionsGreat goldmine museumAmazing museum that covers the miraculous escape of the two miners trapped after the Anzac day mine collapse in 2006. The old mine ruins and equipment spectacular. Can easily spend 2 hours here soaking up all the information and gold mining history. Well worth a visit as a break from winery trips.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 February 2023
- Mark_m10778Sydney, Australia90 contributionsExcellent exibits of the Mine and its surrounding townsThis is 1 of the best exhibit and display's of the life and times of the Gold Miners of Tasmania. While the mine is very well known for the 2 miners trapped in April, 2006 who were rescued and has focus on that event, the exhibits are also very well constructed to show the history of the mine itself and the Town's surrounding this Mine site. Well worth a visit for the history of the surrounds, and of that tragic Mine collapse.Visited February 2023Written 2 March 2023
- Wendy TSydney, Australia389 contributionsHistoric.A very interesting tour of the site of the mine collapse. Seeing the space where the two miners were trapped and a first hand description of proceedings and the rescue. A museum onsite was also very interesting of life yesteryear.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 March 2023
- David SSydney, Australia37 contributionsA great museum. You could be forgiven for thinking this museum is dedicated to the mine rescue of 2006, but it is so much more than that. It offers an excellent insight into both the early and modern life of miners and the industry that employs them. There are some awesome examples of machinery and telephony on display and you can walk through the ruins of an earlier collapsed shaft amongst the extensive outdoor exhibits. A very good gift shop with pleasant and helpful staff added to an enjoyable experience. Well worth two or more hours of your time.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2023
- Rebecca F1 contributionA Top Tassie AttractionFacinating and the most interactive museum I have seen. My kids (6 + 9) loved talking on the old telephone and making them ring. It was hard to encourage them to move past the first exhibit because they were so engaged but the rest of the exhibits were equally fun and interesting.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 July 2023

Bought back a lot of memories of the mining disaster/rescue we all saw and watched all those years ago. Whilst I found it extremely rewarding to see all the ruins and way of life for the miners and the mining community I also found it very emotional at the same time .Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 July 2023

If you've got kids, there are a lot of interactive thing for them to do, like pressing a button to make the water wheel work. It was even exciting for the big kids to set it going. Really enjoyed our time here as it's really well done.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 October 2023

What a fabulous centre. The work that has been done to preserve this site and keep the memories alive of the mining history of this site. Also the entire history of how they got the trapped men out in 2006. A must see place when in Beaconsfield. The gift shop also had a good range of gifts for purchase. You can operate quite a few of the exhibits which was great.

Wonderful attraction! Very interactive, and a lot to see and do. My partner and I were looking for something to fill an empty spot in our itinerary, and this fit perfectly as we were between two places. Wish we had a bit more time to explore as you can easily spend 1-2 hours here. Very educational, and a mix of things to see and do.

It was so interesting, especially learning more about the 2006 mine disaster. It was moving, sad and interesting all at the same time.

Absolutely fabulous. This is one of the most interactive museums we have been to. There is so much for kids to touch and experience. Try panning for gold, make a phone call on an old telephone, or turn on huge mining equipment. The exhibits include the Beaconsfield mining disaster, old mine ruins, vehicle and old machinery, mine history including past and recent history, plus displays of apple growing and sorting, early medical and school, 3D mine map to name just a few.

Can you do a tour of the mine?

Hi. Tours of the Heritage Centre are self guided, we give you a map and a basic explanation and send you off to explore for yourself. Unfortunately there is no underground experience (for a variety of reasons) but there is much to see, do and interact with aboveground and well as a very good history of the Valley. Hope that helps :-)
