    Highly recommended heritage spot
Wonderful attraction! Very interactive, and a lot to see and do. My partner and I were looking for something to fill an empty spot in our itinerary, and this fit perfectly as we were between two places. Wish we had a bit more time to explore as you can easily spend 1-2 hours here. Very educational, and a mix of things to see and do.

    A must see in Beaconsfield
What a fabulous centre. The work that has been done to preserve this site and keep the memories alive of the mining history of this site. Also the entire history of how they got the trapped men out in 2006. A must see place when in Beaconsfield. The gift shop also had a good range of gifts for purchase. You can operate quite a few of the exhibits which was great.

    Enjoyable visit
Really enjoyable visit. They have done a great job setting this facility up which does cover a lot more than just the mine disaster. The mine disaster section was moving and very well done. Brought back so many memories from that period. We were also able to have abit of fun with the various interactive displays including the old phone section. We also enjoyed looking back at some old machinery and historical everyday items. We spent about 90 mins but could have stayed longer. Also enjoyed the gift shop which was filled with unique and lovely items. Staff were great too!

For kids and adults fun morning out
So fun! We initially thought it was all about the 2006 mine collapse but it was so much more than that! I really enjoyed the exhibits and the “hands on” history was AMAZING!! Our children loved them. Also they loved the treasure hunt through the museum, it kept them very engaged looking for animals. I highly recommend it for a day out. Kate at reception and the man with the bush my beard was very helpful.

What is so good about this place is that you can you touch and handle so much, from making the phones work to starting the waterwheel and powering the stamping machine. A great slice of local history. You can easily spend a couple of hours here and buying the triple pass with Platypus House and Seahorse world is good value and provides a full day out. Don't miss this.

I honestly wasn't expecting an old mine site to be all that interesting, but was very pleasantly surprised to discover otherwise and am very glad we visited. The history and remaining buildings are extremely interesting, and surprisingly picturesque in places.

The main reason we decided to visit was because it was the site of the mining disaster in 2006. This episode in Australia's history has been recounted here in great detail and sensitivity. There is a replica of the space that the two trapped miners were in for 14 days, and it's very sobering to see just how tiny it was.

I believe it is possible to visit Beaconsfield via public bus, but we decided to hire a car for a few days instead as that seemed like a much easier option overall.

We went to see where the Mine Disaster took place back in 2006. The sensitive and thought-provoking display didn't disappoint. To see the actual conditions the miners were trapped in was shocking. The Heritage Centre was an absolute surprise and instead of the hour we thought we'd be there turned into about 3!!! The one display that still sits with me is the wall of well over a hundred different types of timber. You name it, it was there. I wholeheartedly recommend this centre, but allow a lot more time than you might think you need.

Unexpectedly, the first portion was unrelated to the mine - I assume this is the Heritage Centre component. We breezed through this portion displaying old telephones, vintage vehicles, farming equipment etc, although interesting was just like every other country museum.

The next portion was on the early 1900's gold mine.

Finally, those who were old enough to remember the 2006 mine collapse, were rewarded with a nostalgic trip down memory lane. I can recall how this incident consumed our lives at the time. I can only imagine how this must have impacted those involved or even living in this area. I was surprised how close the mine was to the town centre - only a block from the main street and adjacent to residential areas. Walking around the modern mine was like a trip down memory lane - only those memories were imparted by the media images beamed onto our TV screens every night.

If you Have a young family this Is a must do when travelling the West Tamar. Get yourself a triple pass and venture on to Beauty Point.
The mine has a great display of the history of the area and the mine. The tragedy surrounding the mine and how productive it was. Very hands on for young and old. Allow a good 1.5 - 2 hours for your visit.

Having travelled to Tasmania many times and having driven past the Mine without stopping, this time we decided to stop. Wow, I never realised what we had been missing all these times in the past. The creators of this centre should be very proud of their accomplishment. Notwithstanding the sad event of the accident it must be said that a day spent at the centre is not to be missed. It is a vast array of history and memorabilia that should not be passed by. Do visit, it will please the soul.

This museum catalogs the mining heritage of the Tamar Valley and presents the contemporary history of the Beaconsfield Mine Collapse and the successful rescue of Todd Russell and Brant Webb. The story of the rescue including the hardships and challenges is enthralling. It reminds us that mining is dangerous and working underground is not for the faint hearted. The other displays are thoughtful and well maintained. The visit represented value for money.

I really enjoyed wandering around the Mine and the Heritage Centre, far more than I was expecting to. Super interesting seeing all the Heritage displays and ruins. Great exhibit for the disaster that happened a number of years ago, very sobering to see what the miners were trapped in for all that time and the video's of them being rescued. Really like what they have done with the ruins, making parts into a rainforest type garden. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Would totally recommend visiting this place.

The centre is interesting but needs an update. The focus of the centre is the mine rescue and to some extent the former mine. The centre then has a bit of a mish-mash of diplays on fruit processing, York-Town and other Beaconsfield history. I would recommend the centre for a vist if you are in the area but its feeling quite dated and could do with a renovate and a clearer focus on what it wants to achieve.

Facinating and the most interactive museum I have seen. My kids (6 + 9) loved talking on the old telephone and making them ring. It was hard to encourage them to move past the first exhibit because they were so engaged but the rest of the exhibits were equally fun and interesting.
