Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We decided to do Tourist Drive 9 which took you through these incredible granite boulder formations.
Towards the end of the drive there was a turn to the right which led to the top of the mountain and Mt McKenzie lookout.
The view over Tenterfield was great and there was a nice picnic shelter with seating and a bbq. There was also a drop toilet.
Nice country drive with fabulous views.

Granite Drive is a real eye opener. Close to town the drive is around 38klm long & features the unusual granite outcrops found in the area. There is a lookout but follow Sunnyside Loop Road onto Kildare Rd & all the outcrops & views will be in front of you. There is some dirt road but it is well maintained. At the end of the drive is the lookout with spectacular views of the we town & surrounding districts.

This is best experienced by driving along Tourist Road 9. This road is mainly gravel, but takes you behind some of the more prominent hills in the area, for wonderful views of surrounding granite formations. So much so that I ended up doing the Tourist Road 9 a couple of times. You wont regret taking this path.

The view at the top is also enjoyed if it is not cloudy! Once the clouds parted for us, we had stunning views over Tenterfield and the surrounding area.

You can also reach the top using a mainly sealed road from Tenterfield (also a shorter trip).

Great lookout! I loved the gravel road to the look out. It was easy to navigate and only a few kilometres. Lots of interesting flora.

Visit from Sydney. Excellent value for money cost nothing. The drive up or back down you will see lots of animals like sheep and cows by the side of the road.

Come with the sun behind you and you'll be rewarded with a great view to Tenterfield and beyond. The road is mostly sealed from Tenterfield or if you prefer it Tourist Road 9 takes you to some other sites beyond the lookout. Definitely worth a visit if you have a car.

Lovely drive through countryside to get to access road. Very small amount of gravel road but rest sealed. Nice tree lined drive up to summit. However clouds down due to rain so no view. But still happy we visited. Long drop toilet on site w bbq area for visitors. Good signage. Saw lyre bird and kangaroo on drive up. Never seen a lyre bird before. Well worth the visit.

Went to the markets at 'The Old Church' lots of beautiful stalls then we drove out to Mount Mackenzie Lookout. Lovely drive out there although we missed seeing Major Thomas's house (no signpost that we could see). Very peaceful at the lookout and great view
