Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were travelling through Lithgow and decided to head out to Hassan Walls to revisit.
On the way up we noticed another lookout on top of a knoll and stopped to take a look. Fabulous views over the rocky outcrops and the valley below.
We then drove only a little way further to the main car park. You have the most fabulous views over the valley below. Don't forget to go to the old little lookout where you have to crawl through an opening in the rocks to reach the lookout. It gives you another nice aspect. Well worth a vivit.

After exploring Lithgow's main drag, with thermos and cookies in hand, we headed to the lookout at Hassan’s Walls. Named by one of NSW’s governors as the sheer drops reminded him of the stone forts he saw during his time in India. We would have to agree. It was an outstanding lookout and we were the only ones there until it was time to go when about 30 tourists arrived at once.

We took the road less travelled for the homeward trip, down Brown’s Gap Road and dropped in at the Mitchell Reserve lookout, (see review).

We arrived on a windy day and the car park at the top was closed. Bear that in mind when arriving that you may need to park 200 m down the hill first. The walk up fine and our friends were able to push a stroller up for their baby.
The lookout is well maintained and the views were expansive on a clear day.
The lookout is a must do whilst you're in Lithgow.

After having lunch in Lithgow, we decided to view Hassan's Wall. It is up a slightly steep track that has the odd pothole and is dirt most of the way , but the average family sedan will easily make it up there.

Up the top are spectacular 270 degree views of the valleys and hills below, stretching from back towards the Blue Mountains and off into the western distance towards Bathurst

Worth the slight detour

Went when it was misty and overcast and it was STILL an amazing site. It's a schlep to get up there, but worth it to see the valleys from a top view. Loved being up top in the mists, just angry at visitors that chose to trash the place with broken beer bottles and food trash. Otherwise it's clean and well maintained. Needs more support to help keep it up.

Not far out of Lithgow. There is a little bit of dirt road to travel on but the road is well maintained. Plenty of parking when you do get there. There are walkways out over the stone and you feel like you are standing on top of the world. There are picnic tables there if you wanted to stay to eat. The views are amazing. It was very windy when we went and so was cold. Not sure if it is always like that . Highly recommend this is on your list of places to visit when you are in Lithgow.

Beautiful lookout with wide views over the valleys. Not far from town. Dirt road for much of the way, but its graded and if you take it easy in a car, its not problem at all. Definitely worth a visit whilst in Lithgow.

Hassans Walls lookout is one of the most panoramic vantage points on the Blue Mountains plateau. Located on a large sandstone promontory the look out has incredible views east over the Hartley Valley to the Darling Causeway, south-east into the Kanimbla Valley, south towards Hampton and south-west over the vast granite hills of the Great Dividing Range. From here visitors look down on the point at which Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth finished their Blue Mountains crossing in 1813. Early morning and sunset are favourite times of day to visit this magical place. We always avoid the picnic shelters and head straight down the track to the rock shelf. There are no safety barriers so little ones need to be kept under control but the place is pure magic. There are few greater delights than scoffing fish and chips up here as the sun sets and the evening settles on the Hartley Valley.

The exposed location of the lookout means that visitors must be prepared for cold winds in winter!

A 40-45 min drive to this spot from Katoomba is well worth the time. There’s about 3km of gravel road to drive on but my average sedan managed it. I’ve attached a photo of what the gravel road looks like. The view is amazing on a nice sunny day. Definitely recommended for a visit to experience the scenery. 👍🏻

Great view from the carpark. Walkway, easy access. A must when in Lithgow. Gravel road has a few potholes but totally fine for a sedan.
