We were on our way back from Newnes and decided to take a look at the Aboriginal art site, Maiyingu Marragu. What a wonderful natural rock art gallery! As you walk up the quite steep hill to the rock face it is at first difficult to see which way to go. If you follow the footsteps it leads you to... More

Signs have been changed to display the name used by the traditional owners. The short drive on a track from the Wolgan Valley Road leads to a small sign near where the walking track goes up to the cave. We visited when it was dry and the surface was very loose and slippery, we would imagine it is also slippery... More

Blackfellows Hand Cave is a close and easy drive from the turnoff from Wolgan Road. The track is well signed and is navigable by most cars to the car park. From there its a short and easy uphill walk for moist people, through the very young and the not so young may have some difficulty with slips if the track... More

Heading towards the Newnes Township just out from Lidsdale near Lithgow, is a turn off to your right to an area known as Balck Fellows hands. There's a small walk up the hill to the overhanging rock, where you'll find the Aboriginal art.

We 4wd in this area quite often, and the Blackfellows Hand Track is one of our favourites. The caves are awesome and when we went on the long weekend, people were actually camping out in some of the smaller caves along the track. Well worth a visit.

A must visit for raw natural splendour. A place from out of the past. You could hush camp 500m down the dirt road. No running water. If you are heading to Newnes it's worth a detour. We also had a look at The Glow Worm tunnel and the Lost City up on the Newnes Plataeu.

The Aboriginal hand stencils at the Blackfellows Hand Cave near Lithgow in the Wolgon Valley are a reminder of the local indigenous presence in the area of the little known Wiradjuri tribe. The Aboriginal stencil art at Blackfellows Hand is located not on an impressive & massive shadowing rock face that can easily be imagined today as being an obvious... More
