About
Campbell Rhododendron Gardens, in Bacchante Street Blackheath NSW (about 1km from Blackheath railway station), cover an area of 18.3 hectares. The Gardens are unique, where exotic plants thrive under a canopy of Australian native bushland. Rhododendrons and Azaleas are at their flowering best between late-September and mid-November, and winding paths make exploration of the Gardens easy and fun. If you can't walk far, the accessible Lookout offers a magnificent view down the valley and across the Reflection Lake. You'll find picnic facilities and accessible toilets, and your dog is welcome. During the spring flowering season (until early November), the Rhodo Tea Room is open for 'Aussie Cream Teas' and unique Rhodo souvenirs. The Gardens are maintained by volunteers and rely on your generous donation to pay for the continuing upkeep and maintenance. Donations can be made safely via our website or cash in the blue-green DONATION box at the Information Kiosk.

lovely hidden gem
Apr. 2021 • Family
We just drove around town and happened to get here. Very peaceful and lovely, kids observed little tadpoles in the pond, different species of rhodos, very good bush walk with young children. Really admire these volunteers!

A peaceful place in Autumn
Apr. 2021
These beautiful gardens are looked after by volunteers which must involve an amazing amount of effort.

They were badly affected by bushfires a few years ago. The area near the entrance was obviously not as badly affected as looks very nice but the further parts seem to be in early stages of recovery.

We were there in very early April there were very few flowers out but it was very peaceful and a lovely place for a stroll.

Make sure that you stop by if you are in Blackheath.

rhododendrons are currently in bloom
Oct. 2020
Rhododendrons currently in bloom (end of October 2020). even though part of the garden was destroyed by the fires, there's a decent amount left which makes it worthwhile. entry fee is via donation, suggested $5 each.

Run by volunteers - what a great job they do! Lovely landscaping, a myriad of paths, native bushland up the back to wander through and gorgeous gorgeous rhododendrons! I spent hours here

Beautiful gardens

Worth going to see. Sadly, damage from the bushfires is visible but it is a great way to spend 1-2 hours

Beautiful gardens
Oct. 2020
Absolutely stunning gardens. Obviously the best time to visit is the spring that is now, or the next few weeks). Lots of amazing rhododendrons and azaleas in a natural setting. Part of the garden was damaged in the bushfires earlier this year, but don’t let that put you off. Most of the garden was unaffected and even the damaged parts are coming back to life helped by some replanting.

Very beautiful
Nov. 2019 • Couples
The rhododendrons and azaleas were in full bloom and were absolutely stunning. We spent a pleasant hour wandering around being suitably impressed. The place is run by volunteers so do not expect pristine gardens. Some of the tracks are actually very hard to access. We also found the map quite hard to follow. Despite this, the gardens are well worth a visit.

A beautiful 45 acre garden of Rhododendrons and native vegetation
Oct. 2019
We visited the gardens and happened upon a tour leader describing the origin of the gardens to a bus group. He was fascinating. The gardens are well loved and cared for by volunteers. It was inspirational to see the enthusiasm of the locals. The rhododendrons were spectacular.

Fantastic Gardens of Rhododendrons
Oct. 2019 • Friends
Just spent a wonderful hour wanders through about 10-15% of the gardens with many plants in full bloom and many more still to flower, do yourself a favour and visit these 18 hectare gardens, you will need a couple of hours to do it justice and the afternoon tea was also great.

Stunning colour

A visit in October is rewarded by a beautiful array of rhododendrons and azaleas. Even the young boys were impressed! Lovely walks and attractive nooks to sit and enjoy.
And all for just a gold coin donation.
