This is the most charming medieval manor house with a wonderful atmosphere.

I would say straight away "allow plenty of time" We were so enchanted by the house we didn't have time to visit the gardens properly. It is wonderful to think that the west wing... read more

I would say straight away "allow plenty of time" We were so enchanted by the house we didn't have time to visit the gardens properly. It is wonderful to think that the west wing is available as a holiday rental - that certainly sent us dreaming. The house feels very well loved and all the guides are obviously thrilled to... More

Beautiful little NT property in lovely grounds and gardens. Visiting so close to Hallowe'en it might have been lost in cobwebs, witches hats and pumpkins like some properties nearby, but no, it wasn't and it was all the better for that as you could see what you were there for. Nice little cafe and shop, and some friendly, informative guides... More

Interesting gardens, with twelve apostle yew trees in rows. Some very uneven paths, with limited disabled access. Roaring fire in the downstairs hall, helps with the cold. Steep stairs up to rooms on the second floor. Grounds nice for a wander, but limited display at the end of the season.

This is one of many fine small medieval manor houses that can be found throughout the south west of England. The house evolved and grew around the original 14th century chapel and later great hall. It holds a good collection of antique furniture and artifacts. The gardens surrounding the manor house were largely created in the early 20th century following... More

A long history over 6 centuries is captured and presented well, Some excellent room guides to add extra details, and some lovely pieces of period furniture with their own stories to tell. Although hal the current property is not accessible there is still plenty to see. The grounds are well maintained and a real asset - do not miss the... More

One of the most genuine NT properties we have visited. Felt as if we were stepping back in time & the family had just popped out! Loved the Great Hall with the Minstrel Gallery & very impressive roof timbers. Gardens wonderfully laid out & plenty of Estate walks for those with more time and energy!

We'd never heard of this place and popped in primarily for coffee on our way back from holiday in Dorset. A really pleasant surprise. A small manor with some of the best NT gardens we have ever seen, packed full of unusual, but attractive plants. The only disappointment was that none of these plants were for sale in the shop....
