A good walk

Worth doing to get a good tour around berwick and to learn a little more about Lowry. Map from tourist Info is Ok but takes a bit of time to work out.

Berwick has been at the centre of so many major historical events, mainly wars, yet the evidence of this is very understated. A walk round the walls (the significance of which are well explained) and a stroll through the centre and you soon find out many things which are unexpected. The Lowry trail is well sign-posted and explained. Lowry visited... More

If you are interested in Lowry and want some fresh air - do this walk. It's quite long but you can stop off at any point for refreshments and a rest or indeed do the walk over a couple of days. The information boards are helpful. We enjoyed it even in the bracing winter air.

A great way to look round the historic and scenic town while learning more about Lowry. The trail leaflet indicates it is about 5 miles, but I used a GPS and it was 8, so on a short winter day it's important to start early if you want to complete the walk in daylight.

This is a wonderful way to appreciate Berwick as seen through the eyes of one of its most famous visitors, L.S. Lowry. Lowry visited the town on a very regular basis and was particularly fascinated by the Elizabethan walls which form part of the enjoyment and intrigue of visiting the town today. A trail leaflet is available and one can... More

The display at the granary gallery in the yha Berwick is worth a look and walking the trail all around the town.

The walls are impressive and looking out to sea you can imagine how this town looked and defended itself. There are some lovely buildings although the commercial centre is a little down at heel and a touch depressed. The Lowry trail adds a new perspective on the man.

Great views from the city walls, you can leave the trail at many points to go into the town itself. If its cold or windy, wrap up well as the wind from the North Sea is cold

Headed for the town walls and stumbled on this. Really interesting with graphics to match. Didn't know he has spent so much time in Berwick

This is an interesting 5 mile walk around Berwick, Tweedmouth and Spittal. Berwick Tourist Information Centre have a free leaflet giving details of the walk. Information boards along the way also add to the story of Lowry's paintings. He visited Berwick many times and the trail shows where many of his paintings and drawings were made.
