The exhibition and castle are very interesting with fabulous views over Richmond and surrounding countryside. Ideal picnic site with plenty of space for families.

Enjoyed an hour or so wandering around this castle ruins. amazingly views from the battlements, great walk above the river ( don't need to pay entrance to do this walk), lovely gardens too.

The English heritage has done well to maintain the infrastructure of the castle, although it's such a shame the gardens aren't done with the same care. There are some views, although there are areas around Richmond which are more of an outstanding beauty then here....More

Had a couple hours here it was gorgeous but not wheelchair friendly even tho they say it is. I would definitely come back it's gorgeous and staff are friendly

I've been wanting to visit for 32 years. Finally visited today. Richmond Castle filled me with some awe. Perfect location for a castle. Beautiful views and friendly staff. £6.30 entry for adults. National Heritage members are free.

Climb the stairs- it is well worth it to see the insides of this old castle, and the incredible views from the top. Some of the steps are very worn with age. The Edinburgh castle felt like Disneyland with all the crowds, while Richmond Castle...More

It should be possible if you leave quite early in the day. You would need to catch a train from Kings Cross to Darlington and then a direct bus from Darlington to Richmond. The train journey is about 2.5 hours being a high... More

There are a lot of steps, about 2-3 storeys but they are straight and fairly even so not too bad.
