We visited when the castle was closed but could still explore quite a bit of it. It was incredible! Although most of it lies in ruin, the location right on the cliffside with the waves crashing into the bay creates a castle well worth visiting. There are plenty of information signs to read along the way to keep informed. Just... More

Lovely ruins with lots of open space and gives a real sense of history. Kids love it and the town centre is a short walk away with lots of cafes and traditional pubs.

This place is not only gorgeous in its broken state but also full of history. Highly recommended for people with a love for the old and mysterious.

Making use of our EH membership, interesting place and the audio guide is very good, not your typical guide for a change, well worth a look

The castle is mostly in ruins, but when you take the audio guide with you and listen to it while reading the information panels and looking at what were once grand rooms, you'll be fascinated! It's a wonderful little view of history. Climbing the tower is difficult, as the winding steps are steep and there's no hand rail, but the... More

I was surprised at how good this was. Most is in ruins but there is a intact tower that you can climb and a tunnel underground that you can go into. It is also larger than I expected. I would go again given the chance.

Making the most of our English Heritage membership. Mostly ruined but it's possible to climb to the top of the tower- 97 steps. No handrails.Audio guide apparently available but weren't offered this though the person on duty was from another property. A few descriptive panels.Underground tunnel. Not suitable for people with limited mobility. Car parking limited but public car parks... More
