Lovely place to spend an afternoon for grown-up. Nice antiques and retro shop. A beautiful Chinese antique shop. Out of the ordinary shops and cafe. The Turner contemporary is just in front of the old town and it is worth a visit for Arts lovers (free entrance). Also in front of the old town you have Margate sandy beach, very... More

Margate is one of those places that, given the opportunity, you just have to visit. A bit like Southend or Brighton. A place with a past; a reputation if you will that has to be seen with ones own eyes. So, a short break in Kent afforded the opportunity to visit the town to see if it lived up to... More

Good selection of quirky shops bars and eateries. Not large enough though to warrant frequent visits.

It has a few odd small shops to browse through and some decent food shops in there which were fairly priced along with the start piece piano for all to play. My daughter sat down and played Frozen to everyone. Very brave!

Margate old town is so quaint.... full of coffee shops, 1 minute walk from the Turner contemporary. Great restaurants.... antique shops.... the old town museum.... could get lost here for a whole afternoon. definitely worth a visit!

Came across this place as we were wandering around waiting for the football to start - what an excellent area of small shops all selling something different that you wouldn't normally find - especially on this generic high street that is developing in all towns - well worth a visit

Margate old town is a warren of small streets with hundreds of small curious, quirky shops and art galleries, bars and cafes,a joy to walk around,we found this art gallery/cafe by chance,a POT of tea for two + home made cake for £3 and the toilets were very clean too!the pictures by local artists are excellent and reasonably priced, well worth a visit.
