Great softplay - had to pay for tap water
Fantastic soft-play facilities! Great food in the soft play centre too. What let it down is i had my new born baby with me and I asked for some boiling water to make his bottle and they charged me £2 I questioned it said it was just to add to the formula, but they said they had to charge me. I have never been charged for boiling water at any other establishments.

    A great experience..
An excellent experience overall. Not sure how anybody could complain about the quality and experience at what must be the UKs premier Pier. The big rides are varied although they were closed and the undercover rides and facilities are very good and very well presented. Jurassic World was incredibly impressive. The food offer looked great and the bar had a loverly atmosphere and food/drink choices. Clearly some good management at work here.
Hi Archie, many thanks for taking the time to review the pier. We greatly appreciate your comments and five star rating - it means a lot to us. We are delighted you had a great experience and hope that you will come back and visit us again soon. "Uk's premier pier"; that is is some recommendation!

Positive first visit to soft play
We went to the pier soft play centre with my 2 grandchildren aged 5 & 6 ... Kids absolutely loved it and my daughter and myself were able to relax and have a coffee ...and the cake was very much needed and delightful. The entrance price we thought was very reasonable and were pleasantly surprised that this included a free meal for both of the children.. We will most definitely visit again
Hi Nickie, thanks for your feedback and very positive review. We are proud of our Discovery Bay soft play area which is open 364 days a year. It is currently getting a £40,000 facelift with all the themed rooms being revamped and some are already complete. The Kids Eat Free is available in term time, Monday to Friday and is very well received. Sounds like you had a nice relaxing time, as well as the children having fun. Just what we like to hear. Thanks again and see you soon.

    Disappointing evening
Went to the pier Monday night to play adventure golf with 15 friends. A bit disappointed about several things….. Booked this on line ( which wasn’t necessary despite being told on the phone that I had to) you don’t give a time when booking which is strange On line the £20 deal says 2 adults and 2 children but the poster at the pier says 4 persons and when I asked the girl she said I could have got the deal if I’d just paid on the night. Maybe this needs looking into! No paper or pencils anymore you have to score by scanning the QR code which takes a few attempts as not very good signal on the pier. And half way round the system crashed and I lost all my team’s scores and couldn’t retrieve. I know technology is progressive but maybe you could offer paper and pencils for those who would prefer this!
Hi, we will definitely ensure this is clarified with staff as you do not need to book online for golf and you do still get the deal - whether you book online or not. It is correct that we have moved away from a scorecard and pencils to be more digital and we do not intend to offer them in the future. Did you connect on to our pier wi-fi? Sorry your experience was not all you had hoped for but hope you will return soon.

Played in the arcade, and played mini golf. Mini golf was very good value for money, quiet so not pressured with a queue behind, can take your time taking your shots (however, we did go on a weekday). It is big with 19 holes, and takes a good amount of time £6.50 each or £20 for 4 people. We had food there too, not many veggie options but pretty good value for money. Would recommend!
Hi, many thanks for taking the time to review us and for the four stars. Glad you had a good time playing Skull Point Adventure Golf. If you want to take your time it is probably best to play on a weekday when it is less busy. Pleased that you felt it was good value for money - so do we! Thank you for recommending us and hope to see you again soon.

    Nice long pier
Great pier, so much for young children, the colours and lights were exciting and the slow tea cup was a favourite. We played on the slots on a grey day and it was so much fun, not done it for years. Had doughnuts and chips all the seaside fun you could want. Even got some fresh cockles from a van outside, excellent.
Hi there and thanks for your kind comments which are much appreciated by all at the pier. It is a nice long pier, not the longest in Europe - but it is the largest at 6.5 acres! We are grateful to you for taking the time to review us and giving us five stars. We look forward to seeing you again sometime soon. Fresh cockles, now there's a treat!

    Jurassic park clacton pier.
Bailey was amazing in Jurassic with Magnolia being very energetic and Summer doing fantastic in the cinema. Craig was brilliant selling tickets and sorting out photos! They all was amazing, very interactive, and bought the dinosaur out so the kids can play. Thank you for your customer service. Come to Jurassic Pier.
Hi, and thank you very much for this very positive feedback on our staff members which will be passed onto them and their team leader. We love to hear about this and it is important we let them them know when customers appreciate them and feel they have provided such good customer service. Good
I took the grandkids here and they had a good time, they enjoyed the soft play and mini golf as well as the arcades. Good location on the beach, unfortunately it was raining so rides outside were closed. Will come back when we are next I’m clacton, hopefully with better weather
Hi Mary, while we do have plenty of attractions for when the weather is not so good - and it looks like you enjoyed them - it is obviously preferable when the sun is shining and the rides are open as well. Look on the positive side - you will be bringing the grandkids back for another visit and we look forward to that! Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback and also for giving us five stars, even when it was wet. We really appreciate your comments.

Clacton pier amazing place and staff
Fantastic time again on Clacton pier, went bowling, crazy golf, and enjoyed the arcades. Followed up by a cold beer or two at the Broadwalk pub on the pier, listened to the live entertainment backed up with amazing friendly staff , special call out to Sherriie ! Thank everyone on Clacton pier, for making us feel so welcome, see you soon!
Hi Tonya, sounds like you had a full-on Clacton Pier experience. Love to hear your comments about customer service and our friendly staff as that is very important to us. Thanks for the call-out to Sherrie, it's not the first she has received this weekend so must have been on top form. Thanks for the five stars and glad to hear you will be coming back soon.

    Super friendly in Boardwalk bar
A big shout out and thanks to the bar staff in the Boardwalk bar. We go to the bar fairly regularly as we live locally and love to take friends and family when they come to visit us. The staff are always attentive, friendly and happy to help with a smile on their faces. They work tirelessly even on the busiest of tourist days. The bar always has a warm welcoming atmosphere whether indoors or out on the terrace. Fully recommend stopping by if you are visiting the pier. Great food too
Hi Alan, many thanks for your recommendation of the pier's newly refurbished Boardwalk Bar and Grill. The changes we have made along with the efforts of the team that work in there have helped make it even more popular. All the comments you have made about the staff are very much appreciated - attentive, friendly and smiles on their faces are just what we want from them! It can get very busy in there in the summer and it is important to treat all our customers the same, whether they are the only ones in there or if it is packed. Look forward to your next visit and taking care of you and your guests.

I have to laugh at the responses from Clacton Pier, as they both apologise and make excuses for the fact the pier is overcrowded, dirty and run by the rudest staff. That last one is the worst part of all. They really are the worst staff I've encountered anywhere. They said they "undertake staff training"...Um...Well it clearly isn't working, is it? Have visited the pier many times since childhood and now my parents live nearby and I can honestly say, I preferred it before they did the refurbishments. It's now so overcrowded, with Covid denying idiots, that it's unpleasant to walk through. Unfortunately we have to walk through it to get to the cafe at the end of the pier which does some of the best fish and chips we've tasted. The toilets are absolutely disgusting at ALL times of day/year. Literally swimming in urine and so antiquated (pity they didn't spend any refurb money on those!) Everyone comments on how revolting they are and we're waiting to use them. I read here, that they justify it by the amount of people that use them, but come on! I've been to bigger, busier places that have managed to keep them cleaner. Motorway service stations keep theirs cleaner! There is no excuse, other than they don't care. I try not to use them, but my elderly mother has to, unfortunately for her. The rides are very few and really overpriced (but then, they've always been) and my kids often can't be bothered to stand in the long queue after I've forked out for a 'fun' card. The kiosks that sell donuts and ice cream, are manned by unbelievably rude people. The donuts are nice (when you get them) but the ice cream tastes like water (really cheap and not creamy at all). The staff around the machines are equally rude. My daughter won a toy on a shove penny, but it got stuck on the way down, so we called a member of staff and he was so grumpy and unfriendly, I couldn't believe it! The pier looks like it's falling apart in places and it's kind of scary to walk on the rotting planks that sometimes move when you walk on them. If you want a really good day out, go to Adventure Island in Southend instead. The staff there are lovely (good training!) and they do half price after a certain time. Plus it's really clean (toilets too!) and open late in the Summer, with a lovely atmosphere. Southwold Pier is very nice too. Clacton Pier is just dirty and dismal.

Hi Alison, many thanks for your feedback and we will try to address the issues you raise in your review. Firstly we will not apologise for apologising to you as you did not have the sort of experience we would hope for on your visit. For that we are very sorry. We will not make excuses - but we do need to respond to your comments. That will involve putting our views, but these are not excuses. There is no excuse for poor customer service and any of our staff being rude and that will be taken up with the relevant department, as will the cleanliness of the outside toilets. They are cleaned regularly - as are all the toilets on site - but maybe we need to increase that at times when the pier is extremely busy and that will be looked into. It seems extremely unfair for you to say they are "absolutely disgusting at all times of day/year" as I am sure you are not there at all times! Planks are checked and replaced when necessary. You say that the pier is "falling apart" in places but then also say you do not like the improvements made over the past few years involving significant investment. Some of the money was spent on upgrading areas and that is an on-going programme. You are obviously entitled to your opinion but if you look back over past reviews (as you say you have) then you will see that there are other very satisfied customers. We have around 16 rides at any one time and they are very competitively priced when compared to other attractions. I hope you don't feel we have just come up with excuses and have tried to give our point of view. We appreciate that you don't agree and that is your prerogative. In terms of the refurbishments a great deal of money has been put into upping our offer and providing indoor and outdoor attractions for all ages. We cannot standstill and are always looking to bring in more customers to create the revenue that is needed to maintain and sustain a 150-year-old wooden structure for future generations. Not everyone will approve of everything we do but the refurbishments have gone down very well according to most of the feedback we have received. Once again thank you for your feedback which is always appreciated.

We had 4 days in Clacton with our 8 year old daughter last week.

Covid 19 precautions are being taken to grant access to the pier. Names and telephone numbers are being taken before entering and face masks must be worn inside the arcade area. There is also hand sanitiser readily available.

We went onto the pier every day bar one for a couple of hours and we came away with lots of prizes. A big negative is that a lot of the prizes in the 2p machines do not fit through the hole so a lot of my time was spent chasing staff round to get the fallen prize out. There were many many people having to do this.

You can buy a wrist band or a top up card for the rides on the pier. If you are going to be there all day it will be worth getting a wrist band as you can go on the rides as many times as you want for the day. The individual prices for the rides are quite expensive so using the top up 'fun card' works out quite pricey after a while but it's good if you only want to go on a couple of rides.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to review us and for the four star rating. We are delighted that you noticed all the measures that we have in place due to Covid-19 and felt safe to enjoy three visits to Clacton Pier. In terms of the machines we try to give the best possible prizes and it may be that sometimes they are larger than the hole. However, that is not unusual and staff are on hand to deal with this. I just want to point out that wristbands are not available at the moment - unless you have an existing annual pass. The way we are taking payment during the pandemic is the fun cards. Glad you had good fun with us and will return in the future. We appreciate your feedback.

Was a good day out dont get me wrong but we really struggled to figure out the cards for the rides ect on the peir no one really seemed to bothered about explaining and if they did try we got told 2 different things. Now we know how everything works we will probably go back again but when my smallest is a bit bigger. Be prepared to spend ALOT for the rides, the seaquarium is nice and cheap but it's only small. The adventure golf inside we had a laugh doing. Soft play is huge and I highly recommend paying for the kids to go in there... there is the biggest soft play area you ever did see along with cinema, role play area and cafe! Definitely do this if you have small kids!

Hi, and thanks for your feedback. The fun card you are referring to is not as difficult as you might feel and as you say you are now ready to go back and use it. Our staff at the ticket box are there to explain everything and are happy to do so. There is a little bit to take in as we try to cater for all the requirements of our customers. We are sorry if you found it confusing. We are glad that you had a good day overall and are able to recommend a number of our attractions which your family enjoyed.

I remember from childhood visits that the pier and the pier approach was a little shabby but I was pleasantly surprised by how the whole place had been smartened up. There are now some fairground rides and eateries on the approach and the front of the pier looks smart. Covid precautions were being observed with hand sanitizer available and notices asking that masks are worn. It did seem strange being in the first area which is an enclosed arcade with machine walking around in masks. Not everyone was doing that. Outside there are various fairground rides and attractions if that's your thing. It doesn't cost anything to go onto the pier and it's a traditional part of the whole seaside experience so I suggest it's something to do at least once when you visit Clacton.

Hi Karen, it sounds as if you noticed that significant improvements have been made since your childhood. The upgrades are due to continue with another new ride next year. We have spent considerable amounts of money on an indoor area and now the ride deck has undergone an overhaul with the new log flume being brought in. Thanks for your feedback which is much appreciated.

We visited Clacton pier during the school holidays June 2021, I pre booked our big days out wristbands £19.99 instead of £24.99. We just had to show our qr code at the admissions box office to receive our bands. The deal was pretty good, 18 hole mini golf, go karts (1.4 height restriction), the sea aquarium, unlimited rides, 5 goes on interactive games (driving, shooting or air hockey) and 50 free game tickets. The crazy golf opens at 9.30, we arrived at 10:10, but what they didn't explain was the ticket admissions office doesn't open till 10:30, as the rides don't open till 11:00, so we all stood around wondering what was going on, other than that we had a great time on the pier. We tried to get a hot dog on the pier, but the young lady couldn't tell us any allergy information with regardto what she was serving.

We have family in the Clacton area and visit multiple times a year. The Pier is great and the children love going there every time. A lot has been spent on the Pier by the owners to modernise the whole business (venue, weather proofing, rides and advertisement). The Council have also invested heavily in the beach redevelopment and local infrastructure. The new crazy golf and indoor childrens play area on the pier are brilliant. It can be pricy so we combine it with a walk along the sea front and limit the number of rides the kids can go on and that helps.

Last year (2021) i purchased a fun card which when i visited today still had £30 on it. Last year it was no problem to tap the card twice on the reader for the two of us to ride the log flume.

Not so this year, was told I had to buy another card for my son which is a minimum spend of £10.

There is no reasonable reason to force me into buying another card when the one i already had has more than enough money on it to cover the cost of our ride. The only reason for a policy like this is to maximise revenue and anyone taking a few kids is going to find this very expensive.

In addition most of the arcade machines are pay by card and there are a lot of machines that dont work. These machines should have an out of order sign on them and they should be unplugged. Management leave them turned on knowing the card readers will continue to take your money leaving you endlesdly searching for someone to sort it ot. This practice is disgraceful and I will be notifying trading standards who really should inspect the place.

Its not hard to see why it wasnt busy, people are getting wise to how this place is run, its all about the money and my message to the pier managent team is jog on, we won't be going back.

Hi David, thank you for your feedback and we are sorry you did not have a good experience with us. The policy of one card per person is not about making money but it is because that is the way our system works. You did not have to spend a minimum of £10. All you had to do was to buy a card for £1 (which is refundable at the end of the day) and it could have been linked to the other card and you would been ok. Perhaps that was not explained properly to you and if that is the case we apologise. We do not have double tapping with one card and it should not have been possible last year. We would like to try and sort this matter out for you and as a gesture of goodwill are happy to do so if you email po@clactonpier.co.uk We appreciate you say you will not be coming back and obviously your decision to make but we would like the opportunity to resolve this matter with you.

we have been coming to the pier for a while a
now and our whole famiky really enjoy it. We came down for a visit upon arrival was asked about masks but as soon as your inside its like a free for all no one has masks on and everyone huddled together you wouldn't even think that there was a pandemic on which is quite worrying especially if one person has it and goes in there. We will be back once things are different

Hi there, and thanks for your comments. As you are aware it is a very difficult time for businesses trying to reopen while the pandemic continues. However, I can assure you that we have followed all the Government guidelines and have gone further to try to provide an environment where people can enjoy themselves and be safe. There is thorough cleansing and sanitising going on at the pier; signs and other notices about keeping a safe distance (2m); free hand sanitiser; details taken on entry so that we can track and trace where necessary. We even give out face masks to people on entry if they don't have one. There is very little more we can do. If people are then not responsible enough to continue to wear them it is out of our control. We are not going to put staff in a position where they challenge people and put themselves at risk and this is in line with most businesses. You can take a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. We feel we have been as responsible as we can but then it is down to individuals to play their part. Hope to see you again in the future.

We went to two parts of the pier.. the indoor soft play which is one of the best we have been to. We have an 8 year old who is severely autistic and she had the best time, and it is so safe and secure we didnt have to constantly worry about her which is a rarity.
The second was the rides at the beginning of the pier. We got wrist bands for £8.99 each and they were more than worth the money. The kids must have gone on at least 10 rides each which would normally cost a LOT more. Staff friendly and helpful bar one and we had the best day!!!

Hi there, thanks very much for the positive comments and we are delighted that you had such a good time. Your comments about the soft play are really appreciated - especially in light of the challenges your daughter faces. We try our best to be inclusive and it makes it all worthwhile when we receive feedback like this. Pleased that you found it safe and secure for her and that you were able to relax. I have to point out that the £8.99 wristbands you talk about are for another business - Clacton Pavilion and we cannot take credit for that. But it is good news you had a great time in Clacton. Thanks for the feedback and five star rating.

My partner and I visited the Clacton on sea pier today after a lovely day at the beach to grab some doughnuts, but quickly realised most of the stands didn’t have any; when we did find one which did we lined up and when it was finally our turn we got told to wait on the other line as we’d get served quicker only to be waiting for about 10 minutes before being met with rude staff that seemed more concerned with chatting to one another and the young man who was standing at the back door of the stand eating, than actually trying to give good customer service. At this point we’d wait about 15 minutes including the time we where in the line before hand; once it was our turn to be served we had a young girl at the till turn her back on us and have a nice little chat with the other workers until my partner had enough and said “ are you going to take our order or not ? You’ve been asking people to not wait over there to wait here because we’ll get served quicker but now you’re serving people on the other side too and making people wait extra time while you have a chat” only to have the reply of “it’s not our fault” the others also started trying to argue with us until my partner said “can you just take our order please” no sorry for the wait nothing! My partner and I both work in retail and only ever say anything when we really feel like we have to and these girls were just plain rude and disrespectful other customers in-line thankfully backed us up and reassured us they felt the same. It’s just so disappointing that after such a lovely day, what we expected to be a little treat turned out to be pure disappointed, I was so tempted to no longer purchase them and simply walk away but we’d been waiting so long. Just please do something about your staff either have management work with them or give them a refresher on H.U.G in the work place.
