Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We tried to visit the house today but due to the incompetence of the OPW, that wasn't possible. We had driven for over an hour to get there and were told that the only way to obtain a ticket was to stand outside in the unsheltered downpour for an hour and ten minutes. The two members of staff would not let us buy tickets for the next tour and sit in our car for the 70 minutes 'in case we didn't come back'. How utterly bizarre considering they'd already have our money. The rain was torrential and this was their only system, no way to book in advance. So much for holidaying in Ireland when our national visitor sites go out of their way to treat visitors like scum. How embarrassing for us as a country.

This is a fantastic and great for anyone wishing to brush up on their history of Daniel O'Connell. The tour is self-guided but is well laid out and very easy to get around. The tour begins with a film before setting off around the house, with an information sheet to guide you. There are beautiful gardens and a stunning beach on the land, so this is a must-see even if you just want some outdoor activities or picnic. Staff were very friendly and helpful also.

This is off the beaten path but worth the trip! We were fascinated by the history and pleased that it was a small intimate environment. The guides love this house...you can tell!

This beautiful house was the family home of Daniel O’Connell, Irish patriot. It is well worth the drive down extremely narrow lanes. It costs just 5 euros to enter. It is free to English Heritage members. It has two rooms on the ground floor - a study and dining room. Upstairs is a library, elegant drawing room and a third with the bed in which the great man died in Genoa. Oddly, his body was mainly buried in Dublin but his heart was taken to Rome! The rooms are furnished with O’Connell’s furniture, family portraits and memorabilia. There is also an audio visual display room, carriage house which contains the triumphal chariot which staged his release from prison and a chapel.

There is a cafe which sells delicious ice cream!

Unfortunately we did not get to go into the house as just before we got to the door a man emerged and actually shooed us away saying they were closed! There were no apologies, no letting us know when it would be open, he just opened the door before we got to it and very abruptly said "closed" while waving us away and then shut the door. I was shocked and will not be returning when they are open.

Cash only entry tickets considering the current circumstances is mind boggling. Man on the desk rolled his eyes when i queried this, not his fault, so id love to know who's call this is??? Overall very disappointing, little info on the man himself and very few actual exhibits, could be so much more but as an Irish history buff, had to come here and in fairness entry is only €3

Informative video, some interesting elements in the house and fair price. Cash only €5. Options of trails for walks. Bad signage.

The home and surrounding area are beautiful. The film is very informative and not too long. There is a tea room and outside tables. Daniel O'Connell was certainly a figure of great stature in Irish History. Surprisingly, he had wealth and even his time in prison was a bit cushy. The carriage he rode through the streets following his release from prison is on display and it is amazingly ornate. Visiting this home, we certainly learned a bit of Irish history and enjoyed the furnishings and area.

We have been to Derrynane on a sunny Thursday morning at 10:00 by car. Really a quiet place compared to the other tourist hot spots in Irland. We didn‘t visited the house but the nice, friendly restaurant, walked along the beautiful beach and through the terrific garden. No entrance fee at all.
