If you want to see untouched beauty AND are willing to take some risk, Sach pass is one not to miss. It is located at 14500ft in Pangi Valley. It is nothing like Dalhousie or any hillstation. Rohtang pass doesnt come close. What sets it apart is the desolate state. You dont see a single soul. This is a turn off for many people. But you really get to see the true beauty of the place not marred with human interference. It is pristine in itself.
You can either hire a cab from Dalhousie which would be a 7 hr trip or stay over in Bairagarh for the night and start your ride in the morning. There are 2 stay options in Bairagarh which is the last village before Sach paas.
I had no idea what to expect even from the check post at Strundi which is 15 kms from the Sach paas. Our ride was quite adventurous. We were planning to cross Sach pass and go to the other side of the mountain toward Killad and further onto Spiti valley. Little did we know that it is quite unusual to do that. Normally people go upto a point called "Snow point" which is 7 kms before Sach paas and retreat back to Bairagarh. For everyone who says yes to the criteria in my previous paragraph, I would say, go the full path to the other side. You will remember it for ever. Let me warn you, it is a very tough and treacherous road though.
Tips for travel:
1. Hire a 4x4 with good ground clearance. This is a must if you don't want to get stuck like us. We had an Innova. It was no good. The thing is, your tire is bound to run into snow and you need traction from all wheels to come out.
2. Hire a local driver. These roads are unlike any other. Big rocks, snow on the roads, constantly changing weather. Local folks know what to do in these conditions. Our driver was from Delhi and we were in trouble when we got stuck in snow. He had no clue. Some local guys same after an hr and pulled out the car in no time. Experience is paramount here.
3. Plan your meals. There is NOTHING at this point. Dhaba at Strundi near check post is the last place to get a meal. It will take a good 4 hrs to cross sach paas. There is nothing on the other side of the Sach paas for 4 more hrs either. Get packed food at Mannat homestay or fill up at Strundi.
4. Check with locals in Bairagarh or police check post about weather and previous day conditions before you make your way up. They give good advice.
5. If you are planning overnight stay, Mannat homestay if a good option. Clean rooms, hospitable service, helpful people. Rakesh at Mannat homestay gives good advice.
5. Click a lot of pictures. This place is breath taking.

I visited there in June with my small family. Actually warm weather in Dalhousie disappointed us all and we asked for some good place and our local driver suggested us Sach Pass. He told that not many people prefer to go due to long distance and no fun activities there. However we decided to go. He asked us to get ready in the early morning 5:00 AM and we promptly did that. To speak the truth most of the fun was in the journey. You can halt at few breath-taking waterfalls which I have never seen till now. Then there are snow capped mountains everywhere. We went upto the snow point and then the driver advised not to go further due to poor roads and bad weather. Weather changed within 15 minutes and rain started slowly. I also want not to adventure further due to breathing difficulty at high altitude. We stayed for half an hour and then we returned back. There are 4-5 other vehicles also and they also returned. There is no habitation and you can't see anything except you. This also thrills and add to the enjoyment. However not all days are equal and if it rained heavily we would be in great problem. So there is a factor of risk involved, specially with kids and elder ones.
But we remember our trip till date. It was a journey started around 5.30 AM and ended at 9.00 PM in the night. But we got respite from the warm weather.

Very few people travel 100 kms from Dalhousie to visit Saach Pass, which is snow covered throughout the year. But you need to temper your expectation a little bit. It's not Manali and hence no snowboarding or eat out facilities. You will perhaps find only yourself or your group for company. But isn't it the best way to enjoy unbound Himalayas. Google maps put it at 4390M (it even has good pics of the pass).
You need a vehicle with higher ground clearance as road at some places is only mud, stone or waterfalls but quite motor-able. We hired Tata SUMO from Dalhousie for a day's round trip, each charged around 5000/-. Generally, taxies take you to a place called "Snow Point", which is nothing but a stop on the road to view snow. We understood from BSF guys that Saach pass is around 7 Kms from this so called "snow point". We were there in June so while there was some snow on route as well as on "snow point", it wasn't worth 6-7 hours travel, one way! What made our day was travel beyond snow point which was "worth it"!. Infact, you spend majority of time circling Chamera dam and reservoir which is pleasant site to see. If you really like little adventure and fun, negotiate before hand to go beyond this "Snow Point" (we had to haggle a lot with taxi drivers to take us beyond snow point which they eventually agreed!!). Alas, we couldnt go upto pass due to rain.
No food in vicinity (except only one small tea stall tea stall above Helipad at Strundi, nothing else for Kms). So order home made food at Mannat Home Stay (9857793744/8679712023/ 9459063244), Bairagarh while going up to Sach Pass so that you have food ready when you return (made only on orders). Rakesh Kumar at Mannat is very helpful and can organize treks, stay as well.
Note: In June, it wasn't cold enough to dump yourself among heavy woolens. Its was little cold but enjoyable weather. Further, please be careful as weather in mountain can change quite rapidly. There is no hotel around except Mannat home stay (we noted one coming up nearby) at Bairagarh.

saach pass is rothang of dalhousie. it takes about 7-8 hours to visit there. make adequate arrangement for food and clothing. not advised for children and if you are travelling with old aged people . if you plan to travel its best you go in the summers i.e june july and august september and further travel to pangi valley just going till saach pass is not advise able because the real beauty starts when you cross saach pass and from there you move to killar in pangi valley. road is bad so be careful while choosing your vehicle should be 4x4 no restaurants or hotels in between only a small tea stall at bairagarh not much choice available can be good with youngsters.

Recently I visited Sach Pass on 23rd June with 2 of my female friends and I must say it’s one of the most thrilling experience one could ever have.
We started at 6am from Dalhousie and reached around 1pm at Sach Pass with short breaks in between .You’ll find shops in between to buy water , eatables and even can enjoy hot food like Maggi , rajma chawal , omelette etc.
The entire route is extremely beautiful especially after Satrundi where you’ll get to see snow cover peaks all around , bed of flowers , snow along the route which would totally compensate for not so good roads . The cherry on the top for us was to see snow !! Yes snow in June !! This place still have he untouched beauty offered by the nature.
I would highly recommend for the nature lovers who enjoy calmness of mountains , pine trees and variety of flora and fauna ,with an added thrill with this road journey .
Also , it’s advisable to start early morning for less crowded roads .Also, do carry a woollen jacket as it gets colder near Sach Pass .
Must visit!!

We visited Such pass on 25th May 2018. Started out journey at 6.30 in morning in 12 seater tempo travel. Reach at around 2 just below the sach pass as Sharma Dhaba and water fall area. Not crossed the main sach pass as it was too late to return and weather issues. For crossing such pass and coming back to dalhousie before 10 pm, it is recommended to take SUV.
May eating options are available on route so don't worry about food.

Some people say it is 130 kms from Dalhousie bus stand and it takes 4-5 hours but actually it is 175+ kms and it is a 6-7 hours drive. Because of the road conditions it is recommended to travel during the day time only. View at the top is undoubtely good but you hardly get any time to spend there since all your time would be in travelling. Hence I would not recommend this to anyone.
But still if you are going then here are some advices:-
1. Hire Sumo/Innova or any similar vehicle. Don't hire a sedan or hatchback.
2. Carry your food because there are no stalls, shops or outlets at the top or on the way except 1-2 tea stalls, who serve very bad tea

Its a nice place to visit & actually very far from Dalhousie. It is known for the snow capped mountains around the year. We went in Dec 1st week here but the place was closed due to snow fall on the roads & chilly temp. This place is open only in the summer to visit. it took Rs.4500 to reach here. Advice to see this place only in summer or do proper enquiry before going there. It also have one guest house at base of peak with Rs. 500 charge for one night.

After spending one night at Raj Hotel at Killar (only two hotels are available at Killar - Raj with 8-9 rooms and Chamunda View with 3-4 rooms) we drove towards Sach Pass. We visited the Sach Pass while driving from Killar at Pangi Valley to Chamba / Khajjiar. The road from Killar starts with slushy mud and continues for 2-3kms but soon afterwards the road became better and we drove through many villages with beautiful names and most villages are located on slopes of mountains and where there are space for step cultivation. The Chandrabhaga river (Chenab) followed us till we crossed a hanging bridge over the Chandrabhaga river connecting Such Pass road. The road has beautiful scenic hills and waterfalls all over. Very few people or habitation could be seen after we crossed the bridge. The steep climb was difficult for the vehicle. We drove at low speed as the ascent was tough but the roads have no signposts to tell us how far we have come. The road become more difficult as moved forward uphill towards Such Pass with many pagal nullahs and waterfalls on the road. the car wash waterfalls were something to watch. The road was only with boulders spread all over. There were many car wash points and the car gets automatically washed as we pass through those point. As we progressed further, we could see the snow and snow bridges. The high peak of the pass was visible. The clouds were now engulfing us and rain also slowly started. After reaching the pass, we could witness snowfall and we stopped near the temple at the top of Such Pass to take snaps. The clouds were making the things difficult for us as visibility dropped. We slowly started our descent towards the other side towards Bairagarh and Chamba. After driving about 2km we suddenly witnessed alpine flowers everywhere with beautiful colors of Blie, white, red, yellow, purple, etc. we suddenly came across Blue Poppy flowers and stopped our car to take snaps. We were mesmerized with the flowers and it was comparable to Valley of Flowers of Uttarakhand but tourists do not visit this place to see flowers. We drove slowly and reached a place called Satrundi closer to J&K border. The HP police is permitting vehicles to go upto Such Pass after entering the details of travelers and vehicles with their video photos. Incoming vehicles like ours also need details of travelers. We had some tea here and talked to the police people. They took our video with the car as it is mandatory at this point. After sometime, we started our descent towards Bairagarh. It is a place with scenic beauty and is located on a mountain cliff. Must visit place. Typically people make a day trip from Khajjiar - start at about 5.00AM and return at about 8.00PM. We enjoyed our travel through this beautiful but difficult place. The drive through this road requires very strong heart for sure.

We made an impromptu decision to go to this baap of all passes on a weekend. We started from Hoshiarpur on saturday and reached Bairagarg in Chamba district. This is the last village before the pass with decent staying options and I will recommend people to stay here the night so that they can go to the pass early morning.
We started from Bairagarh around 8am. The road is rocky to say the least and its a bumpy ride. There are few glaciers along the way and the view around the valley is mesmerising. Beautiful untouched landscapes. Halfway there is Satrundi HP police checkpost. There are a couple of dhabas here and I recommend stocking up on water, biscuits and like for the ride ahead. The road continues to be bumpy with occasional water streams. The ascent is steep and car doesnt go beyond the 2nd gear. There are walls of snow as you reach the top as the road has been cleared.
Once you reach the top its a great feeling of accomplishment. There is a small temple where you say a prayer of thanks.
A must visit for all adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Hi,
Are there any rented cans or jeeps from dalhousie to sach pass?
Written 3 February 2020
Yes, there are.
There's this state transport bus depot in the centre of the market.
It provides contacts of various jeep providers who take people to Sach pass. Your hotel should be able to provide you the contact numbers of the bus station.

Can we visit around 15 Jan with family by car,is it only accessible via bike ride and how are the roads for suv ride
Written 12 December 2019
Hello Rishi, this pass gets closed soon with the first or second snow of the season and doesn't open until late April or May, it can get even late sometimes.
When the pass is open, you can definitely go by a car, a SUV is preferable. i was there in this September and we went by a Scorpio. Also, it's advisable to let a local driver drive rather than any of the travelers owing to the high terrain drive conditions. Hope this helps!

Hello,
I'm planning to visit Sach pass in early September. I'll be travelling from Dalhousie.
Can someone please suggest whats a good time to start travelling?
What can be done after reaching there? Do we stay overnight?
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!
Written 1 August 2019
Hello Suril, Overnight stay at Bairagarh is always preferred because distance from Dalhousie till Sach Pass is approx 130 km that too with treacherous road ahead from Bairagarh for approx 20 Km till you reach Sach Pass temple.
September month is nice option to roam in this area. If you want to stay overnight at Bairagarh then start your journey at 8 am so that you will reach Bairagarh at 4 pm. Otherwise start your journey at 5 am if you want to reach Dalhousie on same day.

Not totally..You can go up to Snow view point or Trakar Kalaban. For full Sach Pass view wait till July end.
