When the water is low we like to go to Tindill Bridge and go wading. The boys are in their teens now and they still like to go

There are high and low spots in the river so you will need to be careful if taking a midsize boat. If canoeing or kayaking you need to be aware of the river boats around the bends as some drivers are inexperienced and travel the river wide open throttle.

Highway 53 roughly follows the Sandusky River from Sandusky Bay through Fremont to Upper Sandusky but you really need to get out the car to see and experience the state scenic river. There are a number of county and city parks along its course plus many road bridges. In my opinion, one of the best places is the adjoining Clinton... More

A major battle was fought on this river just outside of fremont when the British fleet in 1913 came sailing down the river. General Croghan defendad the fort, which is now where the Fremont Libray stands... More

A beautiful place to see wildlife. We saw deer, eagles, cranes and egrets on our visit to the river.

Walked down the trails of the Sandusky river dam area to get a glimpse of what it looks like today versus 40 years ago when I made my tracks as a child. Found memories, especially with the frozen river during the winter. Simply beautiful.

My husband and I canoed starting from the Upper Sandusky Harrison Smith Park. The put in point was on the west side of the river near the railroad tracks. A little muddy but not at all a bad spot. This Ohio Wild and Scenic River was fun to canoe and so beautiful. Wooded on both banks, the trees were leafing... More

Fishing, rafting, even a little ice fishing. It's year-round recreation with a lovely view. Make sure to set aside some time to enjoy this hidden gem.
