We were attracted to the Resthaven Wildlife Area for the combination of birding and the White Ladyslippers that bloom in "mid to late May". The other reviews here on TripAdvisor are helpful if you want to go there to fish or go birding. If you want to see the Ladyslippers at the Castalia prairie, you need to know two things.... More

Resthaven Wildlife Area occupies most of the area on the west side of state route 269 between Castalia and US hwy 6. No facilities and not a lot of people (unlike the Lagoon Deer Park just up the road), just a lot of wildlife in the woods and waters. Headquarters is in the unit at the northwest edge of Castalia... This is a great place to fish, plus its full of nature. You'll see Canadian geese, deer, pheasants, rabbits, turtles, snakes, frogs, etc...plus a myriad of birds.

It's a little out of the way area just off Route 269, where folks fish and kayak. It's quiet and pretty, preferred by Canada geese.

Loved the great fishing. TThere should be bathrooms since it is a state park. More ranger patrols. More piers for fishing. One is not big enough. Need trash receptables to cut down on trash dumping. Otherwise very peaceful and secluded.

Great Large Mouth Bass fishing. Please abide by the size limits posted. Have seen Bald Eagles there many times. Be sure to use bug spray with Deet to keep the ticks at bay. They can be quite bad there.

This place is beautiful, but doesn't get lots of people. Pet friendly. I wouldn't walk here alone because it's so secluded feeling, but my husband and dog go all the time!!!

This area is quite extensive, over 2,000 acres to explore. If you like to fish or just enjoy nature, this is the place to go in Erie County, Ohio. We love to bike here, there are many side roads to follow, but keep a map handy. Also, biking here is fun, but drivers tend to cut through here (roads are... More
