My husband booked the 2 bedroom cottage while I was in Spain dealing with my father's passing. It was great to get away and we were looking forward to having a lovely weekend with the kids without the screens.
When we arrived to the cottage (Cabernet) we saw there was two buckets of sheets, towels and cleaning materials. The beds were made and there were fresh towels on the beds/bathroom, so we thought maybe the cleaner had a moment and forgot to pick up the stuff.

The kitchen has pretty much everything you need: kettle, pod coffee machine, toaster, bbq utensils, etc. I couldn't find any coffee pods. They hadn't replenished the coffee, tea and sugar jars. Luckily I was prepared and brought my own things. I was looking forward to a fresh baked bread with jams and eggs as shown in the pictures, but that must have been with different owners at the time.

When we unpacked the car we went for a stroll to meet the animals. There are signs to where the cellar door/carpark is but no signs to where the animals were. We took the cellar door/carpark way and we came across the big house, which you can also rent for a big group. We immediately spotted the alpacas, sheep and chickens. They have a 9 month old Marema named Millie. My husband got a message earlier that day explaining what to do if Millie comes to greet us. She was quite a jumpy dog. Millie is meant to be there to protect the animals, however she got very friendly with us and followed us everywhere around the farm. If you have small kids be mindful, she will jump and get excited, so don't overreact. She will eventually calm down. TJ came to greet us. She apologised for leaving the cleaning stuff in our cottage and she said to leave it out the following morning for her to collect (that never happened).

We own chickens ourselves, so we were pretty happy going inside the coops to interact with them. We got concerned some of the sheep hadn't been sheared and with the hot summer expected here in SA the poor things won't cope.

TJ mentioned there is a maintenance person looking after the property as she doesn't live there. We were out most of the time, but we went to see the animals everyday and we never saw anyone feeding them or taking care of the property.

We got to chat with the group who was renting the big house and they said the owner asked if they could take care of a baby chicken! They mentioned the house was very dusty and full of cobwebs. Our cottage needed also a spring cleaning.

There is plenty of room for improvement in the farm. It could be a very beautiful place, however don't let the pics from the website fool you. It needs to be updated.

We stayed in Cabernet Cottage for two nights on the Allusion wines property. What a beautiful place. The cottage has everything you could ask for including a complimentary bottle of the estate’s wine in the fridge on arrival. The caretakers, Margot and Ian, were very helpful and informative. There are two adjoined cottages and we were lucky to have the place to ourselves. Beautiful bird life, wild flowers, walks and wines. Serenity.

partner bought a suprise gift from a holiday auction site for 2 nights at Allusion Wines cottage accomadation.
We paid $50 extra on top of fair price paid.. meeting the owner Mark for a Saturday night surcharge ,he was very friendly and advised if we needed anything he was just down the road.. previous people had cold showers instead of calling him to replace a gas bottle...
So we packed the kit for a romantic getaway knowing there was a spa and bbq we bought bubble bath champagne etc and bbq supplies of for cooked breakfast n bbq dinners.
The accomadation is simple 2 bedroom with spa kitchenette lounge with tv with a broken DVD player and broken stereo .. luckily we had Spotify! A quick dust would be great too to freshen the place..The cottage set in bushland was peaceful and lovely views.
The neighbours through the connector door was not as peaceful...would be good for large families
The bbq was filthy fat from previous people and rusty,we did not have supplies to clean it..salt paper towels etc.. so decided to eat cheese &crackers that night...such a disappointment people can't clean before guests arrive. An old overused sponge to clean a rangehood that's a light only no exhaust
Then on running the spa the next morning it ..we knew the water was rain water..but did not expect what we got it was putrid.. the brownest water ,dirtier than the Murray river..needing to wash we packed and just headed home with all our purpose bought supplies.
I emailed the owner on the way home so he was notified the property was vacant.. Reply was a "sorry and thanks for bringing that to our attention " and went on today about filters and it was safe to drink...maybe but we didn't want to bathe in it let alone drink !!
I think a refund should of been offered for the room due to a availability of clean water for drinking or bathing.

The views are wonderful and the wine is lovely. Can't ask for much more than that! A great family run business that is very welcoming. The platter was fairly basic for the price however this didn't stop us enjoying our visit.

A nice clean cabin several km out of Yankalilla.

I was worried that I would disturb the people in the adjoining cabin as I stayed with my one year baby.

The toaster needs replacing - as the lever to push the toast down was broken. There was also no normal drinking glasses. There was only wine glasses.

Otherwise it was a very nice clean cabin with comfortable beds.

What a lovely place to visit for tastings. Has a wonderful view and outside area. Grabbed a bottle of their delicious sparkling and lingered for a couple of hours.
The owners are great hosts and very interesting to talk to.
Had a peek at the B&Bs and definitely on the to do list.

“We found the accommodation utterly relaxing and peaceful.”

Large bathroom and well appointed kitchen was good. Serene bush surroundings and yet conveniently close to local town Yankalilla. Lovely sun filled porch to sit on and watch the bird life. Mark's bush track around the property was delightful to walk on.

We stayed in Cabernet Cottage for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the quiet, relaxing atmosphere, whilst only being about 10 minutes from Yankalilla.
The cottage was very clean, and well presented with everything you need.
Plentiful supplies provided us with lovely breakfasts each morning.
The walks around the property were lovely.
The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. Plenty of extra blankets if required. The small gas heater warmed the cottage sufficiently.
The local guides provided us with information on great walks and sightseeing in the area.
One highlight was the courtesy bus from the hotel which picked us up and took us in for dinner and then back again. Thanks Russ for great service.
