Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My young son was so excited to ride upstairs on the horse drawn tram, he loved it. In the was back we sat right behind the horse downstairs.
Great value for money and the staff running this very friendly.
My only issue is people pushing and jostling to get on the tram on arrival when busy. The staff advise when to board and from which end and all get on who have a ticket so take it easy and enjoy the ride. And be nice to the staff.

A daily tourist experience, operating between the main centre of Victor Harbor and Granite Island, crossing a wooden causeway. Island offers a scenic walk, with many (rather strange) sculptures dotted around the pathways. Is a replica of horde-drawn trams which operated in Adelaide and Victor harbor over 100 years ago. A little expensive but considering the costs of maintaining a team of horses, is fair enough! Nowhere else does such a tram operate year-round.

This attraction is a great experience for those people that don’t get the opportunity to appreciate the majestic horse.
Before your journey begins you can pat and take pictures with the beautiful horse that will take you across the Causeway. The ride over to Granite Island is scenic and enjoyable, especially if you are not in the mood for a 15-minute walk. On a nice day the upper deck offers wonderful views all over Encounter Bay. If the weather is not so good the ride inside the carriage is warm and comfortable.

The Tram ride was something different, a short ride to Granite Island , the tram was clean and the horse was a lovely gentle giant. There is a team of horses that take it in turns to pull the tram. Granite Island is worth a trip we saw dolphins “playing” just off shore which was great and the views were lovely. We paid for a one way ticket and walked back but you can get return ticket or walk both ways. Enjoyable.

The horse drawn tram out to Granite Island is not only an icon of Victor Harbour but it is a beautifully preserved form of historic public transport. The best seats are up on the top deck as you get a great view when you are crossing the new causeway. You can get a one way or a return ticket and it’s a great way to visit the island.

Really enjoyed sitting up top of the tram and looking out at the land and sea scape as well as appreciating the lovely horse pulling us to the island and back again. It is something different and not too pricey. I waited 3 years for the bridge to be completed and it was worth the wait. Even if you just look and wave at others on the horse drawn tram it's an impressive sight to witness. I've said less than an hour because it's not much longer than that to Granite Island return on the horse drawn tram but if you walk and make a daytrip of granite island then it would be much longer.

The horses pull the carriage across the pier to the island. It’s around $15 return and $10 one way. The horse has help from tracks and a mat under hooves. I liked the ride and it was comfortable enough.

This is really lovely. It's also very interesting to read about the history of the horse-drawn tram. The girls are lovely and don't push the horse to go do anymore than he wants to, even though when he reaches Granite Island, he tends to start trotting & the girls try to slow him down.

We took the horse drawn tram across to Granite Island instead of walking the approx 630 metres over to the island. The operators obviously enjoy their job and caring for the horses. A great experience to enjoy when visiting Victor Harbour.
"Murphy" the horse who brought us back from the island did a sterling job pulling the tram.

Very nostalgic. Horses are wonderful, staff friendly. Views are stunning. Cafe had run out of most things so a bit sad but to be fair THE virus had just started. Glad to have ridden on the tram at last. Very pretty area

Hi, would anyone know if the tram is accessible for a pram / chair for a child with disability?

Hi,
How long is the return trip on the horse tram?
Thanks
Written 14 November 2016
The trip is about half an hour each way with a twenty minute stopover. You could also stay longer and catch the next trip back.
