About Murray River Trails
Murray River Trails is the first operator of guided multi-day walking and cruising ecotourism experiences on an Australian river. Its experience portfolio comprises of ‘Murray River Walk’, ‘Murray River Safari, and ‘Murray River Escapes’. Experiences depart from the historic South Australian town of Renmark, the majority taking place during a ‘touring season’ which spans between March and November. Guests can complete up to 14 km of walking a day, paddling, cruising, and a range of other activities and experiences. Each day, houseboat accommodation cruises to a wonderous new destination, setting the perfect pace and places to discover the magic of the mighty Murray River. Our tours operate in a high value natural area of the Murray River, within the Riverland Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, which is home to diverse wildlife (including 180 endemic bird species), ancient forests, meandering waterways, ephemeral lakes, and majestic cliffs.

We did 3-night Murray River Walk. We had the best time! Top of the list to mention were the fantastic guides/cook/boat drivers we had on our trip (Heather, Drew & Sally). The walking was really great. The food was excellent. The accommodation was perfect. The weather was good to us too, which added to our experience. I have recommended this trip to several people. It was so good, I  could do it again

Our group of 10 friends and family embarked on a Murray River Walk in July. All I can say is I would give this walk and experience the highest rating possible. Our guides, Drew, Jo and Cook extraordinaire, Sally, were absolutely fabulous. We were so impressed with Drew and Jo’s knowledge of the area and the indigenous history in a pair so young and Sally’s cooking skills and presentation of everything was second to none. The walk was fabulous and a lot of fun with much learned along the way. The food and drink were restaurant quality down to every minor detail. The houseboat accommodation was fantastic however I will say it will be even better when the custom built boat becomes part of the adventure. With everyone having their own en-suite, rather than sharing 2 bathrooms between 10 people. Well done Murray River Trails you’ve definitely got everything right. Thank you for an amazing experience.

We learnt so much about the Renmark/Chowilla floodplain. The walking experience was designed to show the diversity of forest and water environments in a complex and fascinating area. Tony's knowledge and experience were exemplary. The houseboat accommodation was superb and the meals based on Andrew Fielke's recipes were delicious (we've even bought his recipe book).

We were given a superb experience by Tony and his guides over four days out in the flood plain upstream of Renmark. All three people were knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the different aspects of this experience. We learnt lots about the wildlife (especially the birds), the trees and bush environment, a little about aboriginal life here, about the importance of water and the pre-weir & lock natural flows of the river and of recent efforts to improve our management of this huge space. We were so fortunate to time our visit with the arrival of a modest spring high flow - fascinating to see the water creeping across this vast plain, pooling at low points and turning dustbowls into lagoons. This required some re-routing to avoid the inundations and Tony had reconnoitred the route just a couple of days before to explore the detours, even to the extent of positioning a kayak for the trickiest crossing! The logistics worked effortlessly - timing for sunrises and sunsets weren't rushed. Expect long days but the walking is straightforward and not long - we took time to listen to our guides, chat away, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy every moment - there's no reason to rush anything. The food and wine on board was wonderful and the boat was very comfortable. We really enjoyed a hot spa with sparkling on the top deck every evening before dinner! It will be an improvement to have the option of en-suite some time next year. We were reminded how much there is to see and experience in our own country in these strange travel-restricted times. Thank you Tony

Hi Ian! What a great time to walk along the Murray River! The rise in river level makes for interesting walking and conversations! It's amazing to see how quickly the environment responds to a drink as well, the lignums have begun shooting and will soon be flowering! The frogs are making a big fuss over the water which is a great sign. We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your experience - from walking to talking, to wining and dining! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with other travellers here!
