Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came across this well restored building on our walk around town. You are able to walk inside & have a wander around. I could imagine most locals to have been up on that stage for one reason or another during their lifetime. There are honour rolls in the foyer for locals that have fought in the world wars & you can find many photos of the previous mayors dating way back if you walk upstairs. It was an interesting find & l would recommend a visit.

Interesting! So at the top of the Town Hall it's clearly stamped as 1926...but a memorial stone at on the front is dated March 1927... it was laid by J. H.Koch Esq.
What's interesting is that the facade is incorrect... it really was built in 1927. That was the year that the town's council finally, unanimously were in favour of building a new hall... there had been years of debate.
The Architect for this was Chris Smith... he built it in Art Deco style. Chris is recognised as one of the leading South Australian exponents of the Art Deco style. Although registered at birth as Arthur Christopher, all subsequent official records cite him as Christopher Arthur. His father, Thomas Edwin Smith, was a sailor then labourer. His mother, Elizabeth Ellen Williams, signed her wedding certificate with a cross, suggesting she was illiterate.
This was the centre for local entertainment once ... it has been a cinema, a wedding venue, a funeral venue, dance hall, debutante balls venue, a place for concerts and a venue for many other things over time. The hall can seat up to 1000 people.

We walked around Peterborough and it was lovely to see all the old buildings. It was also great that their history was being preserved in the information boards near the various places.
Loved the Town Hall and the building next door. So much to see and do in Peterborough.

This is a beautiful building with a large auditorium featuring a mezzanine level with beautiful gilding on the walls - quite beautiful. Lots of history has taken place here.

Great to see old buildings either restored or with a promise to be restored - helps in telling history. A great place to visit.

I remember going to a 21st ball in 1966 in this beautiful Town Hall, brought back so many memories. Go upstairs and view the Mayors from the very first to the present.

You need to get the code number at the Visitor Centre to be able to enter one room that has displays but it s worth it and not to be missed. In the general area there is a model mock-up of the station built by volunteers and very well made. Various rooms set up in period design giving an insight to the era Pererborough was established and through its hey day.

A lovely yellow hued imposing building on Main Street which was built in 1926 and along with the Post Office is a fine example of the eras architecture. Has a large hall that held everything from Town meetings to singles dances. The Memorial & Federation Foyers are well preserved and display beautiful timber work and is a good example not seen nowadays ! Well worth a drop in !

The Town Hall is a gorgeous example of architecture and was completed in 1927. The walls are adorned with gold ornamentals and the wooden floorboards are in good condition. There is a good sized stage at one end of the main hall and a gorgeous staircase up to the second floor. The Town Hall is the home of the Federation Quilt which was made by the Peterborough Quilters to commemorate 100 years of progress in Peterborough in 2001.
