Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Peterborough and steam. Well worth it. This 1 carriage free museum is just a taste of the area. Filled with artifacts and info it gives a glimpse into the lives of our past of the great steam age. Inside the end are still cabins as comfy the day they were made to show off how travel was like in the early 20th century. Have we lost it now. I think so.
Visit here even if you go to steamtown.
Locayed mainstreet right next to town hall. On the otherside is an old locomotive to climb aboard

Nearly missed this one. However so glad we didn’t. A great snapshot of local history wihich can be done in about half an hour. A great job has been done in restoring and repurposing a vintage railway carriage.

As Peterborough was the railway centre of Australia in the past it has a great rail history but this museum also caters for others forms of local history. Located in the main street of Peterborough in a restored train carriage this museum gives you a simulated ride through the outback from Peterborough to Broken Hill. The train carriage is in fantastic restored condition and maintained to a very high standard. It is well worth spending some time here and taking it all in. A lot to see and enjoy and entry is free.

This train carriage tells a story of the town . And what a great town it is. The main street was getting an upgrade , which is now finished in late November. There is a lot of history in the main street ,especially in the newsagency.

We were so lucky to have visited Peterborough after this carriage museum was opened.
There were "billboards" down either side of part of the carriage, each with a picture accompanied by a story relating to the history of this formally very busy railway town.
There was plenty of information, but not so much that it become tiring.
There was a superb virtual steam train ride to Broken Hill, which played continuously in two old style rail carriage rooms.
Do not miss this gem

The long main street of Peterborough offers travellers plenty of places to pull up, and there is good off street parking for caravans too. How pleasant it was to stop for a break and to find good facilities, a nearby supermarket, seats, shade and a number of things to look at. Most impressive is the Town Carriage Museum which is a restored carriage containing displays and showing you how passengers travelled in the old days. Best of all it is free, and a credit to those preserving Peterborough's railway heritage.

This newly renovated old train carriage is full of town history but just enough to read & look at without getting overwhelmed. Really liked the "real train ride" experience in 2 old closed seat areas. (Kids playground next door if little ones get bored).

Peterborough was the railway crossroads of Australia. The rationalisation of rail led to its decline. This museum in an old restored carriage is a fascinating insight into the history of rail in Peterborough.
Two rooms have an audiovisual, which gives you the feeling of travelling in the outback. Well worth a look. Located in the main street. Can't miss it.
Free entry.

You are transported back into the history of 1800 "Steam Train" adventure.
It is very interesting, as for its simplicity.
You sit in a "First Class" cabin seat, then look out your window to see Australian Railway History as it passes you bye.
Throughly enjoyable.

Only had a short time to visit and impressed with what we saw and read. Only wish that we had had a lot more time.
