    Gorgeous day out
We had a wonderful day at the Steam Ranger Heritage Railway. The volunteers are amazing in their commitment to everything connected with these beautiful historical steam trains. Everyone we spoke to was really friendly helpful and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend supporting and visiting any event this fantastic team put on.

Great views and enjoyment on Southern Encounter trip
The full day Southern Encounter steam train trip from Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills via Strathalbyn to Goolwa was both interesting and fun. Due to an earlier derailment, our trip couldn't continue from Goolwa to Victor Harbor, but we enjoyed the time we had in Goolwa, and the train trips both ways. Booking was easy, the volunteers operating the service were all pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful, and we met other travellers enjoying the trip. We were notified about the curtailed trip, and the day after the trip received a refund of part of our ticket price. The rolling stock is old, so don't expect climate control, but windows can be opened. We went on a chlly, wintry day but thoroughly enjoyed the whole day.

Xmas in July train. What a great night!
A fabulous night out on the Xmas in July train. We boarded the Steam engine pulled heritage carriages at 3.30 pm at Mount Barker railway station. We then travelled to Goolwa where passengers departed the train and walked the short distance to the Goolwa hotel for an excellent three course Xmas themed meal. The hotel staff are to be congratulated on their efficiency, friendliness and the quality of the meals. The, mostly young, train staff (volunteers) were so professional and added to the whole wonderful experience. We then walked back to the train for the journey back to Mount Barker. Well done to Steam Ranger and the Goolwa Hotel. What a great night!

    Great day out
Was a great day. Lovely staff, all very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately we had a family next to us with young children. Parents were allowing their young children to put their head and arms out the window. Luckily an incident did not occur. Volunteers were oblivious to this. It made the trip a little stressful.

Must do Heritage Steam Train Experience.
Great trip and certainly good value for money. The Steam Engine experience is worth every minute. Scenery is great and so easy to walk to Hotel's or other places at Victor Harbor. Would recommend for all ages and as good an experience as we have had on any other Rail travel overseas and in Australia. Well done South Australia Steam Ranger Heritage Railway.

    Great Day OUt
An amazing day. The volunteers were very knowledgeable. We had plenty of time in Victor Harbour for lunch and a walk around the town. Even though it was schoolies week the atmosphere was magical in Victor Harbour. The only thing I would like improved is that you swap seats on the way back to see different things as both sides of scenery are different.

This is an absolute rip off. No steam train in sight. We just took a ride on a diesel train for an extortionate price. Be warned!

Great day, fun trip, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great old steam engine and 3 carriages. The middle one had a coffee and cakes stall.
