This winery tasting room of this winery is in the original barn of the Aldersey Farm which was built in the late 1800s and restored in 2003. Brothers John and Kym Davey produced the first Shingeback Shiraz in 1998. Today the winery produces more than 100,000 cases of wine a year. The grapes on the winery are planted mostly with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. However, Chardonnay and Grenache are among other smaller plantings. We sampled four wines and enjoyed a cheese board ($25 AUD if I recall correctly) on the outside patio.

We first get to know Shingleback Wine was from Food & Wine show in Perth. We fell in love with their Shiraz & Cab Sav and became their Ambassador member ever since. It is one of our most favourite wines in McLaren Vale, in fact, I should say one of our most favourites in the whole country! And of cause, a must visiting place for us every time we go to South Australia.

After the door is open from WA, South Australia is our first inter-state holiday destination. As soon as we drove into Shingleback’s car park, I was overwhelmed by a feeling of home coming.

We love everything about this place, their old farm’s barn cellar door building, rustic, full of characters, very homy and inviting. Their staff, David, Matt and Hannah are super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Their proud trophy cabinets and shelves are speaking loudly for the qualities of their wine.

We had their Chef’s Table lunch again, and were impressed by Chef Horst’s WineFood as much as we were on our last visit a few years ago before COVIC. Simply amazing! We will definitely come back, and, are more than happy to recommend it to fellow travelers.

Located just to the Adelaide side of McLaren Vale, Shingleback is a good place to visit.

It is a lovely venue, easy to find and has some really nice wines at not so expensive prices. A good wine tasting experience - we bought and thoroughly enjoy their wines.

We stopped here on a tour of the McLaren Vale region. Hannah was our host at this venue and she was very personable and helpful.

Location: the cellar door was inviting and had a beautiful rustic appeal with both indoor and outdoor seating. The toilets are in a seperate building but that allows a little walk around the property to appreciate it.

Wine: the wine was fantastic and tasted good. The knowledge passed on from Hannah regarding the efforts and ingredients into the wine made us appreciate it even more. It is because of this a purchase was made.

Food: the option to purchase a platter was available and this platter was well designed and was a great addition to the wine tasting

I last visited in 2006 and had great memories of the Chardonnay and the intimate tasting room. We designed our own flight of two rose, one Chardonnay and one Shiraz. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. The biscuits, olive and cheese was a lovely compliment to the tasting. The outdoor tables had a nice view and breeze.

We absolutely loved this vineyard! Hannah was so lovely and sat us in a warm sunny spot outside while she talked us through the wines during a tasting. The wines are delicious and very cheap, especially compared to what we are used to in Tasmania. We ended up ordering quite a few bottles and getting them delivered to us. They had a good range of whites and reds too, whereas other vineyards have more of a red focus. I got an email two days later that the delivery has already been dispatched and is on its way. Would definitely visit again!

Hannah at Shingleback was informative, descriptive, and very thorough. We wouldn’t have picked anyone else (if we had the choice) as she was incredible and very, very knowledgeable.

She made the experience so very worth while + memorable and the customer service was impeccable. Worth the trip to mclaren vale just for this particular winery. Thankyou so much Hannah! X
