We recently took two separate tours with Ambler Touring and they were both fantastic!
The first tour was with Roger, and he took us out for a full day in the Adelaide Hills. Having grown up in the area, Roger knows it like the back of his hand. He picked us up at 9 am in his comfortable van/mini-bus and the tour consisted of stops at multiple boutique wineries, a distillery, an excellent coffee/chocolate shop, a small cheese factory and some leisure time to stroll along the main street in Hahndorf. None of the day felt rushed, and throughout the day Roger provided colorful background information that served to enhance the experience. He clearly knows his history, and having grown up on a large farm he can talk in depth about the agriculture that defines the region. Moreover, he has an easygoing personality that's perfectly suited to the tourism and hospitality industry.
At the end of the day we were so impressed with Roger that we asked him to take us on a subsequent tour of the Clare Valley later that week. This time he brought along his partner, Di, so we were treated to two excellent tour guides for the price of one!
Some of the many stops in the Clare Valley region comprised of boutique wineries (including the historic monastery at Sevenhill Cellars), a pub brimming with character and Martindale Hall - an 1880's mansion in Mintaro that houses interesting artifacts gathered from around the world. We had lunch at an amazing winery where Roger and Di had reserved us the best seat in the house, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time getting to know our hosts. In fact by the end of the day Roger and Di felt more like friends than tour guides.
Given our experience, it's obvious that Roger and Di love living in South Australia, and they genuinely enjoy sharing some of the best that the region has to offer with visitors. Another bonus: their prices are very reasonable. And did I mention they're really nice people?
Thank you Roger and Di for making our stay in SA so memorable!
