Aphelion is a small, premium family winery in McLaren Vale Wine Region. Aphelion’s Rob and Louise Mack craft world-class Grenache and Chenin Blanc ‘from the sun’ on ancient Kaurna land. Rob’s gentle hands allow the variety and site expression to shine. Aromatics, natural tannin expression and minimal intervention are the hallmarks of Aphelion wines.

Myself and 5 friends booked Aphelion for our first stop of a wine tour day, Rob, Lou and Clairette welcomed us into their homely cellar door. I hadn’t heard of them before and found them on the McLaren Vale website - the labels of the wine caught my eye and it felt like the right option to book, we were not disappointed. The experience was intimate and you could hear the love and pride that they have poured into their family business. For each wine we tasted, we were given the story about how it was made and it really helped us to appreciate the tastings. The wine was fantastic, definitely some of the best we had tasted all day and our only regret was that we didn’t purchase more while we were there. It was a lovely first stop for our day, thanks so much for having us! Would definitely recommend this for smaller groups for a more intimate and not-rushed experience.

My husband and I visited this little gem and were taken through a selection of the wines by the winemaker, Rob. What an amazing experience! It was a real delight being able to speak to Rob about the story of each of the wines, each drop highlighting the quality and high attention to detail that’s gone into making it special. Although we had our favourites, every wine was enjoyable and could be appreciated on every occasion. We bought a bottle of the Pir Chenin Blanc to enjoy with our oysters, went down a top treat! Looking forward to the remaining 11 bottles on their way to Sydney!

Aphelion is a small boutique winery, which we tend to favour in this trips. They are producing high quality wine in different price ranges.
We very much enjoy our experience, we tried a lot of their wines, and the hostess Julia was a delight to deal with. She is a character as well and really knows her wine. THe set up is really nice, surrounded by wineries with lovely views.

Being in McLaren Vale on Good Friday there were limited options of wineries to visit but a Back of the Ute Tasting with Aphelion Wines caught our attention. At such a picturesque spot in McLaren Flats, we were treated to some incredible white and red wines from Aphelion’s offerings and loved them so much that we bought their Limited Edition Shraz (only 159 bottles), Rapture and single vineyard Grenache that we are savouring for future anniversaries. We were fortunate enough to try more of their wines during the rest of our holiday in McLaren Vale and this is definitely a winery that is a hidden gem in the McLaren Region.

Lovely tasting not far from the Willunga main street. Rob is an accomplished and informative winemaker. $10 tasting flight of 2 chenin blancs and 4 reds. All top quality. Recommended.
