I visited this museum while I was in Mannum and it had a lot of really interesting items on display. The highlight was seeing and being able to go aboard the two old paddle steamers and seeing how ships where like back in the day. The variety on offer did surprise me as from the outside it looked like quite a small musuem, but once inside I found so much more then I expected. Overall, this was a wonderful museum and a good way to spend a free hour or two in Mannum.

Mannum Dock Museum of River History exceeded my expectations. There were so many interesting exhibitions full of history. We were there for about 2 hours.

I went with my kids aged 8 and 7, they especially loved the interactive museum where they got to sound the whistle, steer the giant wheel and so much more.

The PS Marion house Puddle Steamer was fun to explore seeing the cabins that people slept in and the kids were surprised to learn that people used to smoke inside smoke rooms.

The kids and I played a game where we found items that had been improved/changed over the years. For example the steel iron has now changed to electric irons.

We had a lovely cruise down the River Murray on the Marion Paddle Streamer yesterday. It was enjoyed by my parents, my husband and my 13 yo daughter.
Definitely something to do if you find yourself in the gorgeous town of Mannum.
It really was a step back in time.
Thank you to the lovely volunteers who made it such a great experience.

We enquired about doing a cruise for my father in laws 95th birthday approx 2months in advance. We we politely told it would cost $25 per person for the 1.5 hr cruise. We had the option to pay an extra $500 if we chose to extend the cruise by an hour to a total of 2.5 hrs. We chose to do this as we were promised the boat exclusively for our group of 17 upon asking. A deposit was paid and a second call made to check on some fine details. The morning of the cruise we received a call to ask if we still wanted the booking as they hadn't heard from us. We confirmed that we did but weren't aware that we had to make contact for a 3rd time. We were also asked that seeing as the COVID rules had relaxed where a max of 18 were allowed when booking and were now up to 32, could they bring random members of the public on board. We stated that at the time of booking we asked for and was promised exclusive use of the boat. We were then told that we had to pay an extra $50 for the privilege which we did. I conveyed my disappointment that it would have been nice to receive a call earlier proposing this situation rather than dealing with it 3 hours before the cruise. I was told smartly " Well that COVID isnt it"!
Upon arrival we went to pay the balance of the trip as agreed. Upon doing so we were rudely told that we couldn't have the 2.5hr cruise as promised because they couldn't take their full 32 passengers anymore. There was no price cut. We were screwed over very rudely by the staff.
The cruise however was lovely. The on board staff were very friendly and informative. We were encouraged to BYO lunch and buy drinks from their bar service. Access to the top deck of the boat is limited to 3 at a time with a good monitoring system. The day was lovely and the father in law enjoyed his special trip . Just a pity the booking process ruined the day.

One of the best places to get River Murray history. Staff love to talk about old time river travel and how time have changed to the present.

We went on the Thursday morning cruise on the PW Mayflower whilst holidaying in Mannum. We were lucky enough to be the only four guests on the cruise, and we had beautiful weather. The cruise was even better than expected. Plenty to see, lots of birds, went down to the cliffs and had a cup of tea. Pretty good way to spend the morning! Many thanks to skippers Phillip and Kevin, and Di for looking after us.

This museum is well worth a visit. There is something for everyone and the kids will love the interactive programs. We only had an hour to visit as the Museum closes at 4 pm, we recommend allowing at least 1.5 hours.

I could not believe the raw History of this small town, the hardships endured of the era, the amazing engineering and intestinal Australian fortitude that went to build and make this Country great, I was amazed at what was achieved without Computers at the time, it all happened with hard yakka,.
