We went on a lunch cruise, without the the bus tour as we were travelling from Adelaide Hills and did not want to go on tour This option was not advertised on the website, however when I phoned to enquire, the staff were very accommodating and friendly.
Smorgasbord lunch was very good, with fresh food and fruit.
However, I would have thought there would have been more commentary along the way! For many, it was their first time on Australia's longest river and would suspect they did not know very much about it after their journey. (For me, I went on the PV Rothbury at Mildura late in 2018 and the commentary was very informative).
For instance: how long is the Proud Mary?; What was it used for? When was it built? How many owners? How far has it traveled? How ling is the river? How deep is the river? The history of water management of the Murray and it goes on........
The people from the bus tour that we spoke to were not impressed with the bus commentary either. Apparently the guide spoke too fast and was muffled and did not explain what they were seeing and could not understand him. The example were the fruit trees, they did not what type of fruit on the trees, what it was for (dried, export etc.)
I did get some information that I could not find on the web, which was the planting of the willow trees every quarter mile as navigation aids in the day and how they now line the Murray.
All in all, it was a relaxing couple of hours, met some fellow travellers and enjoyed the fresh lunch.

The cruise from Murray Bridge to Blanchetown and back over 5 days was a very relaxing experience with excellent meals and good service from thoughtful, attentive and pleasant staff. The off-boat activities were well organised and vary informative. Kayaks were available for us to paddle our way quietly through the by-ways.

We did the 2 hour lunch cruise. Beautiful day so it made it more enjoyable. Staff are lovely, its very well organised. Just a little disappointed with the actual lunch. The servings are so small! It was tasty though. Dessert was bit woeful. Just a tiny bowl with canned 2 fruits on the bottom with cornflake crackles on top with scoop icecream. So I'd call it a snack, not lunch.

Went on a lunch cruise and was not told about the cash only bar. No eftpos so I had to sit their dry while everyone else had a drink as I don't carry cash. Also I find in covid to only have cash option goes against all covid compliance. They should just raise the lunch price by 10 bucks and include a drink. If you wanted anything other than instant coffee you had to pay 2.50. It just came across mean. The lunch was also ordinary but enough to keep you alive I guess.. anyhoo very disappointing as I was so looking forward to it but could not recommend this tour.

My wife and I were looking forward to an enjoyable Proud Mary cruise on the Murray River, unfortunately, our cabin Number 10 was right near a noisy generator that kept us awake all night. Not a wink of sleep. Tried sleeping upstairs in the lounge but could still hear the noise, so after consultation with the crew we terminated the cruise after one day and received 50% refund.
Would not recommend the Proud Mary.

We recently undertook the 3 day Murray River cruise on the Proud Mary. Commencing from Blanchetown and finishing at Murray Bridge.
Reception was disappointing as we were forced to waiting for about 45 minutes in the heat as several passengers who were supposed to have vacated their cabin, had not done so, and we were without our accommodation being ready.
No one attended us or told us what to do or where to go and it was a bit embarrassing, with all the other passengers who had already boarded two days earlier for the 5 day cruise going about their business on board while we stood there on the deck with our bags.
Eventually we were shown to our cabin, which was suprisingly spacious. There was also a shower and toilet in the cabin which was located on the entry deck. There were three decks altogether.
We embarked on Xmas Day about 6pm and the main festive meal had previously been served at lunchtime, so this was very disappointing.
Overall the food was good and there was tea, coffee, milo, biscuits and fruit available all day at no extra charge. There are no soft drinks or alcohol included with meals (although juice was provided with breakfast). These are all extra costs on top of the fare.
There is little entertainment on board so if you are after a cruise with lots of things to do, this is not for you.
There was a game called Scattergories organised for one evening, a BBQ for another evening, but all the time while cruising along the river there was nothing else to do except watch the scenery. And this is fine, if the weather is not raining or windy, but I believe there should have been some options available. There was a small library on board, but it was under lock and key and not readily available to browse.
There was a nature/aboriginal walk organised for one of the days, and it was very interesting, but disappointingly, the longer and higher part of the walk was not available due to lack of tour guides on the day due to a funeral.
There were also some nature boat ride short tours that were organised, but the dinghy that was used has no cover and it was extremely hot, so not really pleasant.
If you want exercise on this cruise you need to take yourself on walks once the ships pulls up for the night. There were a couple of bikes and kayaks on board but there was no real encouragement to use these and there was no supervision of people who tried to used the kayaks. One person fell in the water and had to be helped back on board by passengers. There is no ladder, so the person had to be physically hauled on board, so this also became a manual handling injury risk for those who assisted the distressed person onboard.
The crew were all nice and friendly and helpful as was the captain.
This ship is not terribly suitable if you have walking or climbing difficulties. The restaurant is on the middle deck and there are steep steps to be climbed up or down depending on what deck you are situated. And if you are on that middle deck, then if you want to go ashore you still have to negotiate the steps.
All in all the cruise was okay, but not enough activities for me.

booked the three night cruise as a special celebration for my 50th birthday last year. Has taken nearly 12 months for me to write my review as it was still raw. Our experience was that bad. We only managed one night and then decided a Aus$230 taxi back to Adelaide was better than risking our health by staying any longer on this disgusting vessel. We wrote to the owner and the Tourism Board we were so upset at being ripped off. The owner felt justified in the prices and the service, so nothing to be done there. The Tourism Board said they would monitor the business. The price was over NZ$1600 and this was the off season. It started badly with the bus trip. The seats were extremely uncomfortable, the DVD was over 15 years old. It was down hill from there. The food...... please pack your own! The people is the kitchen should be a shamed to wear a chefs jacket. The photos say more than words.......

We both needed a quiet break to recharge our batteries and the offer of a wonderful river trip on the majestic Murray sounded perfect. The beginning of our journey was well managed and the cabin and ensuite were small but pleasing. The first evening we met a two other couples who became our companions for the trip - lovely people who we will be keeping in touch with. The only horrid part of the weekend was the constant generator noise in our cabin (number 11) on the first night. It was not "the night of peace and tranquility in the Australian Bush" that the brochure had promised. Neither of us slept that first night. This left us both tired all Saturday and ruined a whole day of the trip. Everything else though was fantastic. Our new companions did not have the same problem so I am guessing it was just our cabin that had the problem. If you do book ask them to make sure you don't get stuck with cabin 11. The second night was wonderful as we had shore power and we finally had the peace and tranquility that was promised.
I am disappointed that our break was spoiled but still impressed overall.

This is a fantastic River Cruise. You learn all about the Murray River, go on sight seeing tours along the way. So quiet and relaxing. The places they take you too are great. They cater for all ages. It seams mainly retired people go on this boat but we took our kids along.(15 - 21) They got on well with all passengers. They used the canoes and bikes. The only quabble we had was no phone reception at times. But they survived. The Staff there were excellent. The only bad thing i can say about the Trip is that they fed you too much.
We went on this trip for our Parents 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Photographer's dream trip.
If you want time away from the hustle of the city this is the place to go to.
Thanks again to Captain Dave, John, Sally, Danny, Kerrin and Vi

Just back from two nights/three day cruise on Proud Mary. I escorted 24 senior citizens for a relaxing trip. Our connecting bus from our flight was an hour an half late, with no phone call on my mobile explaining why, where the travel agent had all my details of communicating. My group was ages 80 and up. Finally got to the boat and the Captain wasn't the most pleasant person, no smiling, very direct towards us. (He needs to take a customer service training) Rooms are ok, very dated they need to badly upgrade their cabins. Meals were very good, staff did an excellent job. Dining area very pleasant, situated well for viewing the beautiful Murray River. But please beware that there is no lift, there are very steep stairs, very difficult to go level to level. And in the AM hours, the moisture can make the steps VERY slippery. The staff didn't set up the deck chairs for guests, they were stacked against the walls. We had to collect them and put them out. No cushions on the seats, we had to wipe them down. The cruise itself was very relaxing once you did your own setting up to view on the decking. Part of the excursions were nice, Mannum is a lovely town, worth walking about. The nature boat trip was very well enjoyed by my residents, so do do that. But, if you want to feel a bit more spoiled,.. and not have to set up your own decking chairs,.. have a lift instead and not walking up and down very steep stairs and be in a more modern cabin, book Murray Princess Captain Cook,.. we are going to do that one next time. Also to add,.. there was nothing planned in the evening for the guest on the boat, there could easily been planned trivia night with the guests or even a fun movie night with popcorn,... nothing. You choose.
