About
Rob was employed by Max Schubert, father of Grange, at Penfolds back in 1969. Now Rob’s running the most elegant, surprising and creative wine secret in the Adelaide Hills with his own family, Heather, Lucy and Emma. It’s not quite like anything else. Part cellar door and part wine bar, Somerled opens til 7:30pm every night. Front and centre of their website sits their weekly blog. Have a look now! Rob’s elegant and clean sparklings and whites contrast superbly with his mature and complex aged reds. According to The Advertiser, Somerled shirazes are ‘as close to Grange as you’ll ever get’. Lucy and the Team offer half and full glasses over their long marble bar, bottles to share (and of course to take home for your cellar!) Nibbles are abundant: try the warm cheese puffs, French toasted sandwiches, their warm anchovy sticks and signature Spanish platters!

A great opportunity to sample some local Adelaide Hills wine, while stopping in the beautiful town of Hahndorf.

You enter off the high street through a wisteria arch and gorgeous front garden courtyard into the Cellar Bar. Here you find a really tranquil, warm showroom with small circular, white clothed tables and seats. A wood burning fire keeps the whole room snug and toasty.

The atmosphere was very quiet with some guests by themselves, reading a book or absorbing the moment. I could well have been in a library cafe instead of a cellar bar :)

My wife ordered a $30, three-wine sample tasting of reds, which was mostly for my pleasure. And I'm not sure I was really in the mood for it, as I literally sipped, sampled and left three quarters of the wine in the glasses. But experience was fun and I'm glad I did it.

Did the tasting on a Friday afternoon, it was such a great experience, would recommend to anyone visiting the region.

It is also a lovely spot for a glass of wine and to watch the main street.

Reserve Chardonnay was our pick!

Recommended by an iconic nearby winery in the Adelaide Hills, we made our way to Somerled for a casual lunch platter. The terrine/pate platter paired with some of the best wines you could ask for was a delight.
The Sparkling Pinot and the Shiraz, together with the Cab Sauv were our picks but the Sauv Blanc and the Fume Blanc were also outstanding.
Signed up for the Jockey Club on the spot....it was a no-brainer.
If you love, and know, your wines this is the place to go....and all with outstanding service - would’ve have given it six stars if we could!

RUN Rabbit RUN over the hills to Somerled Cellar Door and Bar….

Remembering those great afternoon visits with my friends from far and wide (when travel was allowed).
Amazing wines, yummy platters and nibbles (still dreaming of those cheese puffs and anchovy sticks).

Here in LOCKY ‘D Melbourne enjoying my Jockey Club wines and waiting for the border to open to run like a rabbit back to your Cellar Door with Sami Bear…

Very handy to be open every day till 7:30 pm every day!

What a thoroughly enjoyable experience we had today at their Cellar Door in Hahndorf. We received a very warm welcome from Clinton and ordered a bottle of the 2023 Rosé and one of their delicious platters. People were popping in and out for tastings, just browsing or buying that special Christmas gift and it was a great way to spend a couple of hours on a chilly afternoon. Clinton was the perfect host and after lunch he gave us a tour of the Members Wine Room and we sampled some of their white and red wines. Absolutely a must visit venue for wine lovers when you are next in Hahndorf.

Just superb. Wines and tasting platters were exquisite...the staff, fireplace and cosy corners overlooking the autumn leaves in the wine garden even better. Quiet, cosy and so friendly...no blaring disco music.

When in Hahndorf, your first stop should be Somerled Wines. I could rabbit on for ages, but suffice to say it's a wonderful family owned winery, with an amazingly credentialled Winemaker and a small selection of truly excellant wines! It's a beautiful little Cellar Door and the family go out of their way to make you feel welcome. And, join their "Jockey Club" if you can... the wine packs are a very nice distraction in "lockdown".

We were looking for Adelaide wines to try and wondered into this place.

We wanted to try obviously so selected a Chardonnay and rose to try. We were given what would be considered something between a taste and a half glass of each. We tried. Nothing further was offered and neither did we ask for more. We did like the rose which was not a cheap bottle.

We paid and like most places i expected that we would have had the tasting waived because we bought something. But no charges $5 per person for our one wine each as well as the bottle of wine. Hugely disappointing.

Could have also have sold a lot more wine if I could have tried more than just the one I had and the one my husband did.
