We were met at 9 am at the boat by Kalo, the owner, Master Mariner & Captain, ably assisted by Bec. The boat is a beautiful catamaran, in absolutely pristine condition. After a succinct, well pitched safety briefing, and an overview of our planned cruise, we set off under twin engines out into the bay to hoist the mainsail.

Once under sail, the serenity and beauty of our surroundings became increasingly evident. Kalo and Bec provided excellent commentary on geography, geology, history and flora and fauna. Amongst our sitings was a bull sealion sunning onshore, but the highlight was a group of young fur seals that showed their natural curiosity as we sailed by, jumping in to the water and following us, porpoising as they went at amazing speed. As graceful as the dolphin we encountered later on.

The beautiful white beaches, massive dunes and clear blue waters were just magnificent. Kalo manoeuvred the boat superbly, maximising the experience with a smooth ride, positioning for the best vantage points. The views from the rear deck were great, but standing on the foredeck was even better.

On the return journey, we were treated to a substantial seafood platter, with ultra fresh local produce beautifully prepared and presented. The beverage list was excellent, and made us dream of what the sunset cruise would be like, sipping on lovely wine.

A cruise par excellence!

Feeling privileged to have experienced this amazing half day with Sunset Charters and the dolphins of Coffin Bay!
We came all the way from Canada, and this experience was definitely worth the travel.

We spent more than one hour in the water, and were amazed at how close the dolphins were swimming next to us!

For anyone potentially nervous about being in the sea… don’t be! When swimming with the dolphins, you are always in the confines of the boat (by laying on a secured horizontal net, slowly moving with the boat).

Amy and Kayo were wonderful hosts, treating us to a light and delicious breakfast on the boat before our swim, as well as to a tasty and copious lunch afterwards.

The boat was luxurious, spacious and clean.

In summary, when travelling to South Australia, we would recommend the detour to Coffin Bay to spend time with the Sunset Charter crew.

Carlo & Bec are very friendly, knowledgeable hosts/crew.
The large Catermeran is spotlessly clean and is beautifully smooth on the waters of Coffin Bay.
The daytime cruise includes a sumptuous lunch of local seafood (we had Oysters, Pippi's, Lobster, Marin and fish). There's also w wide selection of drinks available.
The cruising was amazing and covered about 40km, visiting islands with fur seals and sea lions.
One of the highlights was having a sizeable pod of dolphins join us for 20 minutes or more. It's spectacular to watch them frolic in the bow wave a mere 5-6 feet away from sitting on the front of the Cat.
Cannot recommend this tour more highly.

Hands down one of the best wildlife tours I’ve been on!
I’ve been on multiple ‘swim with dolphin’ tours and have worked in the marine tourism industry and I was incredibly impressed with Sunset Charters.
The crew are lovely and you can see the love and care they have for both the environment they work in and the dolphins themselves.
The vessel is beautiful and the small group numbers make it obvious that the owners care about the visitor experience and the animals more than they do about just making money, which is refreshing from a tourism company. It also allows you to be in the water the whole time, not sharing in water time with multiple groups of people.
The design of the swim net (strung up between the two hulls) is genius, and makes the most of the way dolphins love to ride the waves off the bow of a vessel by putting snorkelers right behind the dolphins as they do this. This allowed us to be within metres of the dolphins (at the animals choosing) and made it feel like you were swimming along with them.
Can’t recommend this tour enough, whether you love dolphins or just want a day out on beautiful coffin bay! A must do when you’re in port Lincoln.

Treat yourself to an amazing experience swimming with the local dolphins of Coffin Bay. This latest tour from Sunset Charters is definitely one for the bucket list. Under the command of Captain Kalo and hosted by crew member Mekeyle, both locals, they share their abundant knowledge of the beautiful waterway of Coffin Bay and its unique inhabitants. The wetsuits are so warm, hoods and socks also provided with the added bonus of hot showers between sessions in the water, you will definitely not be cold no matter the weather. Top quality mask and snorkels enable perfect viewing of the majestic dolphins whilst the crew members call out the direction to look in as the dolphins twirl curiously and show jump right in front of your face! The swim net is comfortable and very secure, I felt extremely safe at all times. I can see this immersive nature tour being the highlight of water activities in Coffin Bay for years to come.

We jumped off the 40ft catamaran after a glorious morning under sail riding the waves of joy like Burrunan dolphins. We explored a unique pristine environment in complete luxury. Coffin Bay waterway and National Park scenery is stunning. Seeing the rare Australian Sea Lions & Fur Seals up close, playing in the shoals and lazing in the sun was special. The personalised service by Kalo & Emma was like fine dinning at sea. The fresh local seafood served was delicious. I really appreciated how all the produce is from local family enterprises. Sharing the secret life of the Coffin Bay Burrunan dolphins, riding the bow waves under full sail was flipping awesome. Coffin Bay Taste & Explore is one of the best southern Eyre Peninsula experiences. The five stars are truely deserved.

We went on the Sunset charters dolphin cruise this week.
Wow! What a great day out on a beautiful boat. Kalo, Emma and the rest of the crew, did a great job of making us feel so comfortable. Yes, the water was chilly, but with wetsuits and hoods they supply you stay toasty warm.
Was unreal to hang in the front of the net and watch the dolphins swim around as the boat cruised along. For the keen ones, it’s extra fun if you’re hanging off the rope on the back of the boat.
Food and drinks on the way there and back were awesome. I reckon is the best Rueben sandwich and spicy Mexican wrap I’ve ever eaten.
Highly recommended these guys for a great day out of action and relaxin!
5 stars.

I recently had the most unforgettable experience swimming with dolphins, and I can’t recommend this company enough! There were four of us on this adventure—my partner and me, along with my mom and her friend. They’re in their golden years and never believed they could do something like this, but the experience left them absolutely amazed!

From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized. The catamaran was spotlessly clean, spacious, and incredibly comfortable. We were treated to a delicious breakfast and lunch onboard, which added such a thoughtful touch to the day.

The crew’s customer service was exceptional. They shared fascinating information about the dolphin colony, explaining their behavior and habitat in detail. They were so knowledgeable and patient, answering all our questions with genuine enthusiasm.

Watching my mom and her friend step out of their comfort zones and have the time of their lives was the highlight of the day for me. This experience truly exceeded all our expectations. If you're looking for a memorable and heartwarming adventure with dolphins, this is the company to choose!

Great family owned local business.
Fantastic experience for us and our 2 kids 1 & 4 . The staff were exeptional, welcoming and friendly, helpful and very knowledgable about the area.
The boat was amazing, clean and spacious.
The day itself was a little windy but with the options of both front and back of the yacht didnt make it an issue, we sat at the front to watch the dolphins comfortably, the yacht sails so smoothly.
Quality wines on offer and a complemenary nibble platter made it special.
We will definitely be back and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Coffin Bay. Thanks Sunset Charters!
