The Afghanistan Avenue of Honour is the best memorial outside Canberra and a pity it is so remote. The walk through the avenue would be stunning when the trees are flowering in November but it was a great introduction to the centrepiece, dedicated to our Afghan troops. The memorials to the mine-detection dogs and the names of our soldiers who died, including some casualties once they returned, was very fitting. The path to the lake marking the direction to Afghanistan was a nice finish.

This was an outstanding honour to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan.
Lovely serene setting and our heartiest congratulations to those who developed the Avenue.
Like others we did struggle to locate it but it was absolutely worth the effort to keep looking.

Not really well advertised and sitting quietly by the side of Lake Tinaroo at Yungaburra this memorial avenue lasted in memory of a local fallen soldier commemorates the Afghan war's fallen Aussies along with an avenue of other battles fought.
A place to contemplate, honour, remember or just wonder through.

Powerful yet very peaceful with the lake as a backdrop, shade trees and seating along with a small park for youngsters to play or grassed areas to picnic, fish and enjoy the beautiful lake & surrounds.

Anational memorial site planted with flame trees, rosemary almost down to the water's edge. Designed to burst forth with red around October/November blossoms will both delight and signify the site.

A must see for historians, those interested in Australia's war sites or just beautiful parkland to wander and enjoy. #Lestweforget #jenafarious

This reminds us of a war now forgotten and the Australian soldiers who died there. But it's not up to date.

It does not note that our involvement in Afghanistan finished years ago.

To its credit, it also notes the bomb detector dogs who died on active service there.

This was an unexpectedly moving place in a stunning location on the shores on Tinaroo Lake. The dedication plaques and poems were very well chosen and displayed especially the wall of names dedicated to our fallen Afghan soldiers at the end of the avenue of Illawarra Flame trees. It was especially sad to see how young they were. The town has created a truly remarkable memorial which they can be proud of.

A very well presented and tasteful memorial to those service-persons who were active in Afghanistan. Good to see them honoured.
