Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were fortunate to spend 4 hours in the morning with Alan as well as an evening nocturnal tour. I was sadly unwell the night of the nocturnal tour yet Alan offered to change the evening when only my Husband was well enough to take part. Thank you Alan your kindness is so appreciated.
Sometimes in life if you are very fortunate you will meet someone who has the ability to change the way you see the world around you. Alan did just that. His knowledge of the geology of the tablelands is profound. The effort he put in to show us such unique wildlife especially the sooty owl in the fork of a tree before hopping into her nest and a gecko that blended into the tree trunk so well we would never have seen it , not to mention Tree Kangaroos, moths , and possums to name a few without Alans knowledge and expertise . Alan is so easy to talk to , and happy to answer any questions you may have. We cant recommend Alan and his tours highly enough. Treat yourselves and let Alan introduce you to a very different and special world.

Four of us went out with Alan for a full day and evening to look for birds and mammals. We saw a lot of species and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Alan found most of the hard to find birds and nocturnal animals we were really keen to see. . He knows the area really well and was very patient. We got some lovely photos and had an absolutely brilliant time. Full marks to Alan for being so knowledgeable and being a lot of fun at the same time. Highly recommended.

Dear celede, thanks for taking time to write this positive review. I'm glad you all had such a great time. That's really what it's all about, 'having fun' and 'seeing the wildlife'.

We recently did the extended nocturnal tour with Alan and it exceeded our expectations. Within the first 30 minutes we'd already seen 6 gliders. We then went on to see green ringtail possums, herbert river possums, copper brushtail possums and tree kangaroos.
Alan gave us great tips for spotting wildlife and lots of information about the animals we were seeing, as well as helping me to get good photos of them. A very memorable experience and one I'd highly recommend. Thanks Alan!

Claire, Thanks for the wonderful review. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Just for others reading that was six individual gliders not six different species. We did have two species and even got to see a small glide. From July to August we often get as many as six species of possum in 2.5 hours and last year we had nine a few times in a row which is pretty amazing and cannot be replicated in any other part of the world. No wonder David Attenborough chooses this as his favourite place on the planet. Thanks, Alan

We visited the Atherton Tablelands and were told that Alan is the best wildlife tour guide out there, this was in fact correct!

We had a great morning and evening with Alan who is extremely knowledgeable on not just birds and mammals, but also ecology. The pace was just right and Alan was very willing to adapt to any special requests that we had.

We had a very successful trip, my only regret was not upgrading my camera lens in advance as we saw so many wonderful creatures on our tour.

Thanks Alan!

We (a family of 4 with 2 kids aged 11 and 13) had an absolutely fantastic day/night with Alan at the Tablelands. Alan is extremely kind, underständing and accomodating and seems to know everything (and everyone) in the area. We did a half-day tour + a night tour and Alan showed us an amazing aray of birds, mammals, plants and reptiles/amphibians, together with lots of information on the natural history, geography and geology of the area. We will talk for a long time in the family about the different things we saw and our experiences on the tour, such as the Bower birds and the bower, the flying foxes, the gliders, the wallabies, the tree kangaroo and the different possums. Oh, and the bandicoots and barn owl on our way back!. And I forgot about the platypus and water dragon we started with...

The family vote on this tour rates it as the nr 1 or 2 experience on our five week journey in Australia (only one of the reef tours might beat it). Our daughter wanted to extend our journey in Australia just so we could do more tours with Alan. Our son who is a bit afraid of the dark was fascinated by the infrared binoculars he was allowed to try in the middle of the dark rainforest. It was an absolutely fantastic day for us.

Highly recommended to anyone with an ounce of nature interest.

Dear John, thanks so much for taking the time to write this glowing report. Your daughter has natural skill when it comes to wildlife spotting and I'd have loved to have her around for longer. (The rest of you as well of course.) That compliment your son made on departure though he was mostly asleep remains with me strongly. You have a lovely family, but I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that, and I enjoyed sharing this wonderful part of the world with you all. Many thanks, Alan PS I meant it about sending your daughter back on a gap year.

My wife and I had a truly memorable day with Alan. We spent a full day watching wildlife and saw more than we could possibly have hoped for: 6 species of kangaroo/wallaby, 5 types of possum, platypus, echidna, bird of paradise, bower bird and his impressive bower, 2 species of bandicoot, too many species of birds to mention. But not only did we get to enjoy incredible views of so much wildlife, we also benefited from Alan’s incredible knowledge of the flora, fauna and local history.

Alan also gave us fantastic advice on our best bet for seeing a cassowary the next morning - and he was spot on, we saw 2!

Thanks Alan for such a great day.

Alan is by far the most knowledgable guide we met in a very long time. Alan's wealth and depth of knowledge in many different topics made sure our tour was such a success. Alan has something for everyone and we all felt included and engaged.
Alan went above any expectations and really made us feel special.
We were a family of four and spent three nights and four days with Alan. Every minute was unique and Alan's in depth expiriance allowed us to see rare wildlife and special flowers and plants in every corner of our trip.
Thank you Alan !!!

Dear gp121, Thanks so much for taking the time to write this glowing review. You ended up with quite a mammal list that many Australians would have been jealous of. I am very glad that you had a great time and felt this way. Thanks you for including Maria and myself in your family celebrations. that made it special for us too.

We told Alan we wanted to see a Tree Kangaroo, Riflebird and Cassowary while we were in the area. He told us to go to Etty Bay for the Cassowaries, which we did, and saw them.. When we were in Yungaburra we went on a tour with Alan and saw everything we hoped for and more. He does not look at his watch, he just keeps going until you have seen everything you want to.

I did a 4 day 3 night tour with Alan and had an amazing time. Alan is truly a renaissance man when it comes to not just wildlife but also geology. He loves to teach and had an amazing ability to identify birds and other wildlife with just a quick look or hearing a brief song. I was able to see platypus in the wild and was able to get quite close to an adult cassowary and his 4 children. The lodges that Alan selected were all very comfortable and in great locations. I highly recommend Alan to anyone who is interested in learning more about wildlife (and geology) while visiting Australia.

We did 2 night walks and a full day tour with Alan. He was the perfect guide. He has an intimate knowledge of the Atherton area and its flora and fauna. We were especially interested in the birds but also very much enjoyed learning so much about the area and its natural beauty and wonders. Alan went out of his way to make sure that our experience was beyond our expectations. Beyond that, he is such a nice person and by the end of our full day we thought of him as a friend, we were even invited to join him for the second evening at no additional cost. I cannot give a higher recommendation if you want to have an amazing day (or night) in the Atherton area. Thanks Alan!
