Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From Melbourne one of our number contacted the Longreach Information Centre and was recommended to deal with Red Dirt Tours for a visit to Winton as a side trip from Longreach. Wow! Were we ever lucky. Vicki Jones not only designed a tour that let us enjoy the most important tourist activities around Winton, but she also drove to Longreach to collect us and drove us back there. She recommended a motel where we could stay, and she priced the tour quite reasonably then provided us with her bank details so that we could make our payments before we left home. Her pleasant attitude, driving skill, excellent voice, spread of information and appropriate knowledge make her one of the best guides we've ever travelled with. The van was comfortable and the food she provided was delighful. She also recommended a hotel where we ate for two nights in a row, and could then walk the short distance back to the motel. Three cheers for Vicki!

Our travel agent Organised a package for our stay in Winton, through Red Dirt Tours, and we really enjoyed all the tours that were organised for us by Vicki. What an amazing Tour Guide! Her knowledge of the Winton area is outstanding and we now have so much more knowledge about all aspects of life in the outback. We were collected at the appointed time and the 4 wheel drive bus was very comfortable. Vicki had the required Covid plan in place for our protection. Thanks Vicki for making our stay in Winton so memorable.
Thanks Vicki. Beth and Max

I'd never been to Winton before, and after a few 1000s kms of driving, I was very glad to join a tour.

This package was 4 nights' accommodation, with 3 full days of touring that combined some of Red Dirt's individual tours. It was a good balance of actual tours (Age of Dinosaurs, Lark Quarry, Sunset tour etc) plus a confortable amount of free time to wander the town or use the provided vouchers to visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre etc.

Our guides were Vicki (proprietor) , Bec and Dana. They were all good drivers (the various vehicles were comfortable too). The other passengers were a lovely group. The guides were engaging, well informed (without being overbearing), cheerful and helpful.

Red Dirt has good relationships with venues and landowners. It meant that we had good access to sites that are perhaps not generally available to individuals.

Well done, Red Dirt - had a great time!

Thanks Margaret! I'm so glad you enjoyed the 4 days and felt the package was a good mix. It's always good to do a number of tours to experience a few of the sights around Winton, and the Winton Explorer Package certainly does that!

We've just spent two days with Vicki who provided an outstanding outback experience - The Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum; Rangelands Sunset tour and The Dinosaur Stampede/Carisbrooke Station. Her wealth of knowledge and passion for all things Winton and surrounds is only surpassed by her welcoming and friendly nature. Nothing was too much trouble. Morning tea, lunch and sunset nibbles all delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Vicki went beyond to accommodate our needs and ensure Winton will forever be a marvellous memory.

We took a 4 night package called Winton Experience covering all the key tours and it was fantastic. Vicki provided us with a very generous breakfast hamper that was ample for two people. We also had two vouchers for dinner at Tattersalls Hotel and at the local bakery if we wanted a hot breakfast ( we only used that once). This involvement of other Winton businesses was a lovely touch because it meant we also spent more time in the town. Our tour guides were Peter and Dana. Their knowledge of the history, geology, flora, and fauna was brilliant. I really enjoyed the immersion experience and now know more about cracking black clay that I ever imagined! The tours were incredible and really covered all the key sights and environments within an easy drive from Winton.
Surprises: the amount and variety of wildlife, and the dinosaurs were quite awe inspiring. Strongly recommended for adults with an interest in outback Australia who are prepared to accept that the experience is different from city life. We will probably return sometime.

Red Dirt Tours is owned and operated by Vicki who was our driver/ guide. She has a wealth of knowledge of the district plus in depth knowledge of the environment of west. Listening to Vicki explaining the variety of grasslands and how they work was most interesting plus the other vegetation that somehow survives in their somewhat harsh environment. We went on the Stampede and Merton Gorge tour which was a real eye opener! Morning and afternoon tea plus lunch was Included which Vicki arranged while her 16 guests explored the vista. Would certainly recommend Red Dirt Tours in Winton, the best !

I'd highly recommend any tour with this company. The tour guides local knowledge was amazing & informative. You could ask any question about a plant, animal, terrain, weather, history etc & the wealth of information they had was mind blowing. Staff were extremely helpful & nothing was too much trouble. The cost of our 4 night/3day tour was great value. We had costed out each individual component prior to booking & couldn't do it cheaper ourselves. The whole experience was just wonderful and enjoyable.

We did each of the tours owner/operator Vicki has on offer in Winton and we we were so very impressed. She is a wonderful walking talking encyclopedia of information. Doing these guided tours removed all the stress of planning and provisioning. Well done Vicki - we thoroughly enjoyed our time with you and returned home with lots of great memories.

Our guide/driver was on time, really friendly, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable of both the area and the Museum. The morning tea provided was very nice and the mini-bus was very comfortable. The things I liked most about the entire experience was how friendly and easy-going the guide was, it made the whole tour nice and relaxing as I didn't have to worry about anything.

Both tours were amazing. The dinosaur tour was incredible and very educational and all the people, who have been involved with the museum etc, should be very proud of what they have given to the public to see, wonder at and enjoy.
As for the sunset tour, what could be more enjoyable than walking through the Rift's on a Mesa and then watching a sunset with a glass of wine and lovely nibbles.
