Red Dirt Tours is a locally based tour operation in Winton, Outback Queensland, specialising in small group, high quality interpretive tours and offers a number of tours to the spectacular natural and man-made attractions of the Winton region. Each location has its own unique characteristics and I, the owner Vicki, and my team of passionate guides, love nothing more than to show you our backyard, down the red dirt tracks. Sit back, relax and let us take the dirt roads for you! Red Dirt Tours is Owned and operated by Vicki. Because she is also one of your tour guides you’ll know she cares!

We had a fabulous day with Bec as our guide. The words of the day were Awesome and Wow. Being out of season meant there were no big crowds and we felt very special. VIP s for the day

The Red Dirt our tour guide picked us up from our accommodation and transported us to the venue, about 25 km from Winton. During the drive Brett, our tour guide shared some of his vast know local knowledge. The Age of Dinosaurs tour is amazing and is highly recommended.

We loved our time in Winton and highly recommend Red Dirt Tours to get the most out of a visit there. We had most time with tour guide Bec but also with Vicki and Hylton and they were all superb. The tours were well organised friendly relaxed fun and informative. Bec was so knowledgeable and if she couldn’t answer a question on the spot she’d come back with an answer later. 10/10 for passion and dedication.

I'd never been to Winton before, and after a few 1000s kms of driving, I was very glad to join a tour.
This package was 4 nights' accommodation, with 3 full days of touring that combined some of Red Dirt's individual tours. It was a good balance of actual tours (Age of Dinosaurs, Lark Quarry, Sunset tour etc) plus a confortable amount of free time to wander the town or use the provided vouchers to visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre etc.
Our guides were Vicki (proprietor) , Bec and Dana. They were all good drivers (the various vehicles were comfortable too). The other passengers were a lovely group. The guides were engaging, well informed (without being overbearing), cheerful and helpful.
Red Dirt has good relationships with venues and landowners. It meant that we had good access to sites that are perhaps not generally available to individuals.
Well done, Red Dirt - had a great time!

We did the three day trip which was fantastic. Bec was our tour guide for the first day and a half. She shared her incredible knowledge of the flora, fauna, ancient landscape and geology. I have never had a more informative travel guide in all my travel both within Australia and overseas. She was witty and friendly and also very thoughtful of everyones needs. Our whole group absolutely loved her, we learned heaps. Also the landscape and views were amazing as well as the fascinating ancient history.
Everyday was fabulous, we were well fed and well looked after. Thoroughly recommend this tour.

We had 2 tours with Red Dirt - the first was to the Dinosaur Stampede - very informative tour driver Peter, great catering, awesome day!
Second tour was the Rangelands Rifts Sunset tour - Dana our guide was fabulous and the destination was amazing! We all loved it, lovely catering again.
Highly recommend both experiences!

We took the 3/4 Carisbrooke and Lark Quarry tour from Winton.
This was one of the best day tours I have ever taken, so glad I decided to let someone else do the driving!
Our driver and tour guide Bec was simply amazing. She may have originally been a Sydneysider but she really knows the area extremely well and the whole tour was very very informative. As a result we learnt a lot about the local fauna and flora and generally the history of Winton.
I have already recommended to one friend - who has already booked this tour.
Would have no hesitation in recommending this tour to anyone. Just do it , thank me later

Hi Janet, I include Porcupine Gorge in a longer tour I have that visits Australia's Dinosaur Trail- Winton, Richmond and Hughenden. Porcupine Gorge is 60km north of Hughenden so a trip from Winton would require a couple of days to see the countryside properly. does Winton have taxis?? or how do you get around Winton inc from Winton airport to the north Gregory hotel and from the hotel to the truck museum I used to know toots and Ron holzimer used to drive up to Weipa and the cape and knew her and ( the old girl)the man truck really well cheers james.

thanks for that we sent a e/mail to the north Gregory hotel over a week ago with the dates we are booked into this hotel as it had in 1 of the good reports on the hotel that the hotel would pick you up and return you to the hotel but have had no reply as yet 29/03/16 cheers james.

Hi! The Winton Diamantina Truck and Machinery Museum is located on the Hughenden Road just on the outskirts of town. From the North Gregory Hotel this is approximately 1.5km. The museum is open from 9-5 every day.
While in town you may also want to visit the Qantilda Museum which is the local Winton section located at the site of the Waltzing Matilda Centre.
